If Barca were demanding we paid a buy-out "clause" then I'd understand us being reluctant due to the tax implications etc. A few reliable people have said his clause is actually €150mil and the €30mil being mentioned is a simple gentleman's agreement; if someone bids €30mil then he is free to leave.

If that is the case, pay the €30mil and have done with it!

I'm wondering if the whole Di Maria situation is putting us off a little? We paid a huge price for him, and he flopped big time and we sold him for a loss.

I know there's a huge difference in price, but could that whole mess have made us a little bit more wary?

Or is this simple Glazernomics?

I think after last season and basically the first real splurge by our hallowed owners for 10 years, price has become a factor again. The four signings we have made were offset by shifting a number of players on high wages. Now we're back to our usual pissing around, and letting other PL rivals get our targets

Who? What rubbish

Who's got our targets?

Otamendi....and possibly Pedro

It's laughable how in the case of somebody like Schneiderlin, he was always 'our target' when he actually signs, but with Pedro / Otamendi etc., before any activity becomes confirmed, the chance that they might actually be targets, given...you know....the fact that there's some stories in the media which link us to them, is so unbelievable.

The point is that we've stopped being decisive when it comes to improving our squad, just when we should be tying it all up and concentrating on the football season ahead.

Club denied any interest in Otamendi.

Otamendi rumours have been denied every time though. But don't let that get in the way of a "we can't get our targets" agenda, despite signing Memphis, Schneiderlin and BFS in the same window.

Some people...

Foreign media says Otamendi is our target. British media say he isn't. Choose to believe who you want.

ALL the reports on Pedro are that if he goes, he wants to come here. So to say our rivals are stealing him is ridiculous.

Don't get so worked up over journalists who know nothing. They'll have you believe we missed out on Clyne and that worked out okay for us didn't it.

This time last year Falcao wasn't even on the horizon. And okay, that one didn't work out for us but it shows that caliber of signing can happen at any time.

Just relax.

Otamendi Was never a target.

Really?

I don't think there could have been as many reports as there has been, for as long as they have been occuring, without some sort of interest (even if we have made denials to the contrary)

So you believe the reports and not the club and it suits your theory about us loosing our targets to our rivals. There were reports about Clyne and Firminho too so you can add them too. We lost those targets to Liverpool.. List goes on..
There has been reports about 100 players linked with us. So out of those 100 who knows how many we lost, if we were to believe all the reports.

Just like Guitan then? who we must have signed 10 times in the last 3 years.

Not one single journalist that travels with the club has claimed we missed out on Clyne. Many of them indicated that he infact wanted the move, but we decided to stay clear.

I agree that there is no point getting worked up about the transfer window.

The club has demonstrated its ability to bring players to the club, it's just a case of focusing on the football for now. Too much is made of the transfer window.

The reliable reports said that United would only go after Ramos, if they failed they wouldn't pursue any other CB.

Hope he'll make it there. I kind of think and fear he'll disappear from the scene in 2 or 3 years unfortunately.
Weird move really. Don't think he's ready at all to be at Real Madrid, though he's obviously immensely talented. I don't think he'll disappear, but I can see him moving to a different team in a few years and reigniting his career as many others have done basically.

Or that, yeah. Better to stay clear from Madrid in this phase of his career but we'll see. I see some players are unhappy about Kovačić coming. Benitez has already frozen Asencio, Lucas Silva, Oodegard. Competition is already big as it is, Mateo will have to fight tooth and nails for his minutes.

Even Gaitan has come out and said he's never had any contact from United.

Has he? Just goes to show how many different ways of telling truths / lies / spin / or whatever else there is an agenda for the media to push by whoever is invested in the transfer market these days.

OK, I'll take your word for it, but to my mind (although I'm only intermittently keeping up with it) it seems to have been fluctuating all summer, even until the last few days.

Edit: Seen it has been mentioned already.

We've been consistently briefing no interest all summer. Reports (particularly those originating in Spain, Portugal, Argentina) are not to be completely trusted when it concerns a Mendes involved player.

Yeah, he was asked about transfer speculation in an interview at the end of last season and said something about how he'd heard the rumours he was about to transfer to Manchester United for the past 5 years, but no one had ever actually spoken to him. he's probably as sick of it as we are by this point.

IMO, Ballbag is right about DDG. Madrid haven't given up on signing him this summer. They'll be a storm in the final days of the transfer window. 25 mil EUR + Keylor.

That's what I think will happen and I'd be happy with that, Keylor was 10m euros release clause when Real bought him, even 15 - 20m euros is a fair price for him, so that's like 40 - 45m euros for De Gea in my opinion.

The club denied it several times and even likened him to Gaitan. He's not the ball playing cb VG wants.

 in my haste, I thought you were saying that Gaitan wasn't the ball playing CB LVG wants. It's probably a bad thing I briefly considered that Van Gaal would actually make that consideration.

 Easy to misread and It should've said Otamendi there. Just imagine Gaitan there :D

Have any said that we missed out on Pedro? Or Otamendi? Because that's what I was replying to.
