These reports sound like speculation and guesswork, however, if true then it seems our spending has been reined in after last season considerably as our net spend this year is pretty low.

That's bs i think.

Had muller or bale been available we would of broke the bank easily imo and that's if you believe english sources. I think the problem is the most likely performance related add ons, woodward doesn't want to make the same mistake incase pedro doesn't work out and we try to sell. Barca won't budge on the 30m up front.

woody is just trying to be the good transfer god we all prayed for him to be, the add ons are for insurance. You could argue that he should just pay the 30 straight but alot of us have blasted woody for overspending on players.

I remember those seasons when SAF was manager when we were always 'trying to sign' the biggest names, we 'just missed out' on some huge, impressively expensive names and ended up making a few value signings instead a lot of the time (not that this was always a bad thing, just that it's a road well travelled). We'll see what happens I guess.

''Bristol City are understood to have met £9m valuation set by Championship rivals Brentford for striker Andre Gray.''

again, i dont belive we are that stingy

Have you ever been part of negotiations? It's not about being stingy or not - just basic business sense. Most top clubs in the world can afford to pay an extra 5-10m on every transfer, doesn't mean they give in and do it. We have every right to try and get the best possible price, particularly when the player himself wants to leave.

I know nobody gives a feck, but this is a ridiculous amount of money for Bristol City. Their record transfer is just over £2m. Reeks of a panic buy though.

So for £9 mill these Days you get a 24 year old England C-international with experience from the Championship or you can go to Italy and get an Italian international for £3 million more.

My firend, i negotiate deals worth thousands of pounds on monthly basis. I sell stuff and belive me there is nothing worse than a public tender.

So yes, i ve been in a part of negotiations.

Still im bit confused and dont belive we are risking this transfer over a million or two.

Exactly. We aren't risking anything; just trying to get the price down like any club would do. It's not like Barcelona will walk away from the table if we do that.

£21.1m is a very reasonable deal, if it was £30m plus I can understand add ons but if you are getting a good deal in the first place you should take it. You have to internally value a player, if it is higher than your valuation but you still want him and are open to overpaying then add ons make sense.

So Barca make us wait 2 weeks for their Super Cup games to finish and want us to finalize this in 72 hours? Is there something I'm not getting here?

Surely the negotiations could have gone on during those Super Cup games and a deal reached already?

i think pedro is the one that wants this done asap. Barca seem happy to keep him till eternity

There is a small risk, obviously deemed worth taking by the board, last season I think Guardiola moved for Benatia late in the window because one of his players got injured, it is possible a top club will be in the market for a wide player if one of their current wide players sustains an injury that keeps him out for a few months.

Also if we are planning to continue negotiations until the window is about to shut, an injury to Suarez or Messi might give both Barcelona and Pedro something to think about.

How much will our negotiations even save us? From what I understand they will only save us money (because we are negotiating for how the payment is structured) if Pedro is sold at a loss next summer.

Have the reports of Otamendi having travelled to Manchester been false? Because he supposedly travelled to Manchester and then went back when terms couldn't be agreed. Then all of a sudden he's about to have a medical due to a fee being agreed.

Was he in Manchester to negotiate his own transfer fee, or what?

He would cost more than Otamendi...is he actually just as good/better than Otamendi?
I don't watch enough Spanish club football to say. But he is 6 years younger and two inches taller than Otamendi and City are rumored to have paid 45m € for Otamendi which is slightly more than Laporte' s buy out clause.

Having seen them both play a few times with their national sides and in the European competions and given the age and size difference in Laporte' favour, I think Laporte has more of an upside, but whether he's the one to complete our back four, I can't really say. That is what we pay scouts the big bucks to do.

Who the feck is this Sergi Dominguez guy? He's not citing any sources here.
Yeah. Don't like how confident he sounds though.

This is the kind of saga where it's all United heavy, endless speculation for weeks. One tweet pops up saying another club is in for him and before you know it he's holding up their shirt.
