I think it goes without saying that a manager is going to use his first team keepers in the first team preparation for an upcoming match, to be fair.

DDG is already a massive story, I'm not sure why people feel the need to exaggerate even further. He's training with the reserves because, otherwise, he'd be twiddling his thumbs whilst the keepers for tonight actually trained.

Exactly, he is just trying to stir some shite to create further mess.

City obviously want him and Valencia trying to use our name as scare tactics yesterday.
I fully believe these denial briefings are genuine

The denial is interesting though, it's not something we do very often so why bother saying anything.

We have been linked with a whole list of players this summer most of which we probably were never after, and I can't remember many if any we have denied.

This is the problem with following transfers through the media. A certain amount of expectation is built up among fans and when the transfer doesn't go through, there is disappointment. This is precisely why its best to tune out the media.

I think he's referring to United having Otamendi convinced that we want him here.

So true.

We get too much information nowadays.

We denied Gaitan, Vidal, Kroos, and Fab lately. They all have the same thing in common.

I doubt otamendi based his hopes for this transfer on press reports.

We've obviously made some sort of approach or signalled valencia of our interest.

We have been linked to Otamendi to such a great extent that, if he were to join City, it would look like they out muscled us.

Van Gaal keeps going on about how we buy players who are better than what we have, are Otamendi and Pedro not better than Jones/Blind/McNair and Young/Mata/Memphis/Valencia/Januzaj?

ssssssssshhhhhhh

I still think pedro is ours though to be honest. No way we close the window with no di maria replacement.

Aye I suppose.

I just have a mad theory that the media were thrown the Pedro story in return for them denying we have any interest in Otamendi, for reasons unknown, maybe beacause we truely aren't in for him, or maybe because we see it as someway of lowering his b/o clause.

I just don't get the Pedro story leak, we give nothing away all summer then all of a sudden we decide to throw the press a big juicy bone like that, there had to be an ulterior motive in there somewhere.

Maybe Otamendi was waiting for an approach that never came?
Nobody can tell me Gaitain (sp) hasn't expected a United bid during the last 47 times we've been Linked with him

We bid for him in January according to the Spanish press and Balague so I'd find it hard to imagine he was a target then but isn't now, especially considering he had an excellent second half of the season. If City manage to get him below the buyout clause then they'll have done very well.

Yeah, it was very odd how that came out tbh, something fishy is going on, lets wait and see what happens I guess.

How good is Stones? Can't say I've watched much of him. Did see the Watford striker turn him and plant him on his arse last week though.

For the £30 million Everton want, you'd hope he'd be another Rio.

Unfortunately not, but he is a good defender though. Still young and inexperienced though

Says a lot of what has been said on here, the striker issue is a cloud over the team, Otamendi is a last resort because LvG is obsessed with getting a ball playing CB, and the 2 keeper candidates should De Gea end up going are the 2 most expect.

I feel that With us denying we are in for otamendi , that could be us knowing that city are in the box seat and We are trying to save face .

This bit from the article makes a lot of sense:

The United coach badly wants a ball-playing centre-half, given that has been the foundation of pretty much every successful team he has managed. It creates that fluidity. The club's pursuit of one such player had been constrained by the standoff with Real Madrid over David De Gea. Given that United made it clear the goalkeeper would only be allowed leave if defender Ramos went the other way, they knew that a move for any other defender would signal to the Spanish club that their stance wasn't actually that strong.

That has now changed slightly, especially because Ramos appears set to stay at Real as he is close to signing a new deal, but they remain unwavering on their stance on De Gea.

Would be happy with Stones but in truth, he's another project. Not so sure he is that much better than Jones, al though he might be fitter at the moment. Smalling is turning out to be a great defender and this season will show us whether he is capable of leading the back line, while staying fit.
