We have smalling , jones , rojo and Evans looking like none of them are leaving with McNair as cover as well .
I just can't see LVG bringing another CB in .
(Although I would personally bring one in and get rid of Evans and send McNair and blackett out on loan)

I must admit I love seeing us sign players. I just find the whole process fascinating- the speculation (when all the big media suddenly report the same thing and you know shit is about to go down), the official announcement, the interviews, the pictures of the new player with the shirt with his new number etc. It's more exciting when you already rate the player and you know he'd improve our first team, but signing some raw talents is pretty exciting as well - we get the chance to watch their progress and see them develop into first team regulars or fail miserably and see them sign for the team managed by Steve Bruce, whichever it is. It's pretty exciting all around, but can be exhausting as well.

Hopefully we improve our attacking options with an exciting signing in the next few weeks and then we can all sit back and enjoy the season ahead. This thread is a fecking drug as well. I'll surely miss it next month.

New cb + Smalling
Jones
Rojo

Not sure why people are frustrated about Pedro. There might have been negotiations before the super cup but Barca made it clear they wanted to keep him for it, right? It looks like Barca want to keep Pedro but only as backup. Pedro clearly isn't having any of that. He wants to play football regularly.

I think it's a matter of Woodward trying to lower the initial fee for him and adding some clauses. Still 3 weeks left of the window. If we want him, we'll get him. Other reasons for the delay might be that we are in a bidding war for a central defender (Otamendi) or we are looking at a bigger name than Pedro.

I do wonder what is the real story behind this. If the palyer really wants to come, selling club respects the player, we want to buy...i do wonder why this is such a saga. Having registered a net spend of 20 mil i dont think we really argue about odd million or five.

The selling club don't want to sell, most likely. Quite similar to De Gea.

We had the fourth defense in the league, which is not bad.

Arsenal in third place only conceded one less goal than us, City conceded one more goal, the defence isn't a major problem, we have two holding midfielders now, we won't suffer the ridiculous injury crisis, we have Darmian at right back (should be considerably better than Valencia) and also Shaw should actually play at LB this season instead of being in the physio room.

Everything points to a stronger defence and that should happen if we are much better in possession but there is also the argument Louis played a more defence game last season to adapt to his selection, if he plays the attacking football he is known for then they might be more exposed, we will have to wait and see.

By the way to put our 37 conceded goals into context, when Ferguson won the league in his final season he conceded 43 goals. For me the bigger concern is the attack, we need Pedro and then hopefully Pedro, Memphis, Rooney and Young / Mata can prove effective for us.

Sounds like Herrera last year. Then 24 hours later we sealed the deal
Not true. The news broke in Spain very late at night/early in the morning, I don't recall anyone seriously denying it was true, the majority of newspapers had backed up the story the following day. Ogden got flack because he said he was sceptical at the Spanish reports because he seemed to have been ruled out by the club in the preceding months but posted this article that same morning.

But the selling club named their price my friend. It us who baffle me.

They agreed on a price with the player but they don't want to sell, so they will not help the buyer. It's the full price cash or nothing.

Nah I know it will be Smalling and Rojo eventually because they are the best CBs we have.
What happens if we get Otamendi (because that’s what we talked about)? If he is the best of our central defenders then it’s OK if Smalling goes to bench and we play Otamendi – Rojo?
I also have patience because I know Rojo hasnt caught up with fitness yet.
Obviously. He’s our second best CB at the moment, so if we don’t get Otamendi I hope he plays with Smalling.
Also Im willing to give a player a chance.
Which player are you talking about?

I’m not sure you understood my point.

Someone definitely reported that we weren't interested.

They are already giving Pedro at a discount, £21.2m (as the fee, no add ons) if true is nothing! If they had offered him for £25m then Woodward probably would happily spend weeks negotiating them down to £23m. He has himself a bargain, Pedro could prove be one of the best signings this summer, Barcelona won't negotiate on a ridiculously fair price.

I totally agree, our attack is the real problem we need to score a lot more and we need to be more menacing which will force our opponents to be less confident.

I agree it's a bargain and that we should just pay up, haven't said the opposite. Looks like Woody wants to pay 20% of the fee over the next year/years for some reason.

I don't necessarily disagree with your overriding point, but I would wager DDG played a bigger role in our 'goals conceded' stat that either Hart or Ospina (or whoever Arse played most) did for City or Arsenal.

Our defence last year wasn't great.

Probably because there are so little tweets today so we have 2 or 3 times as much of them then before.

Even the words tweet and follow red cafe are showing multiple times at the bottom of the page.

Tweets showing up 9x. Typical me. I do everything in a grandiose manner.

What are the odds that Pedro will be presented today as United player? Or should i just go to sleep?
