Havent the strongest rumours for most of our signings (Darmain, Schweinsteiger and Romero) all came from foreign sources? The English press have been clueless this year in regards to us. Even Schneiderlin, who was the easiest to get a scoop on since he was based over here, was reported on the day he signed as "we have no interest in him anymore" and "it was either Bastian or Morgan, not both."

I think we dropped our interest but something has gotten us interested again.
Because the club have briefed the journos covering Utd that it was Ramos or nothing. Van Gaal also told MUTV he wanted to strengthen in two positions - attack and keeper (dependant on DDG). Lastly, we've had a fair amount of time to sign Otamendi and not done so. Time to face what is staring us in the face....

I dont believe what the club tells the media. We wanted rRamos obviously, but moved on. I dont see the fuss. It is not like we cant change our options/opinions. It all basically is involved with Ramos. Him signing a new contarct chnaged the whole process.
So Barcelona, the best team in the world, spend their final weeks of pre-season by winning a trophy in a very tough match (although meaningless) where as Real Madrid, their greatest rivals... are having a barbeque.
I really don't think we'll bring in a CB but Otamendi would be great alongside Smalling.

We tend to act more cynical when they say things we don't like, even then luckhurst didn't debunk otamendi like he has others in the past, just said that we previously declared that we weren't interested and that he hasn't heard anything new.

No doubting the club play the press but a systematic briefing like that is not manufactured.

wasn't a recent briefing though, luckhurst was saying that early summer when the window opened they were briefed.
It certainly looks like Jones-Blind was a preferred setup for van Gaal. I take it Otamendi is better at Jones.
He is, but plays left centre back already for Valencia. It is a natural position for him. Louis will have to give in to this at some stage.
The same journos were given the same message throughout the tour....none of them have changed their tune. While I know we will "use" the media, we will not (for obvious reasons) feed them all the same nonsense at one time. The message has been clear - Ramos or no one.
