He arrived, been a bit of a shithouse, but then so are most footballers. It's why we're all basically idiots for (occasionally) believing in this bunch of dickwits.

Feck sake Brophs a bit of a generalisation no?

Herrera is more creative than Mata. His first touch is more likely to surprise and confuse the opposition defender, too.

I like Mata very much, but he isn't the assist machine some would have you believe. Herrera is much more likely to thread a ball through the defence and we seen as much last season.

He hasn't been so far for us, but for Chelsea Mata was an absolute beast for assists. Got 13 assists in each of his two full seasons there. I don't know whether its just how we play him, but he's become much more of a goal scorer and a lot less of a goal provider for us.

Between this and the walls of text, could you please stop posting in this thread?

I do admit that i have a tendency to post alot of quantity worded posts, but what's your problem with what i said about Di Maria mate?

Are you not pissed off about him like many of us are?

Oh & it's just a bitta craic anyway - no harm no foul :)

Let's not pretend SAF didn't cause outrage playing some players out of positions or insisting to include players that infuriated the caf just as much. Just google ''alex ferguson tinkering'' or have a look back in older (matchday)threads here.

These snide remarks fired at LvG on the caf, fecking hell, they are in every thread. So far the caf is doing a Di Maria and noone has had the bollocks yet to make an LvG OUT topic, but a draw vs Spurs and it will begin.

Heh. So true. I reckon Fergie picked a team/formation that didn't cause mass controversy on the caf about once in every 10 games. If that.

And it always seemed to me that whenever he played with a team/formation that the Caf unanimously agreed was probably the best we could play, we invariably ended up playing even worse than normal.

Nope. But i understand you can't choose who you love.

Mata is more creative and more of a goal threat. Herrera has more to his game but if its a number 10 we want then Mata's far more proven than Herrera. His abilities lend themselves to it as well.

EDIT: Before i get quoted 100 times i like Herrera and think he has a place here. I just think Mata is a much better 10.

Last seasons stats don't prove this. He got the same assists in more games. Same assists and a few more goals in more games/minutes played.

I think Mata has the greater pedigree there but we only saw Herrera in the EPL last season and in terms of creativity and goals he did very well and Mata didn't do any better

We'll have a few of those (LVG out) threads in a few months.

No-one's ever suggested "LvG out" lads & it wont happen either, but to agree with every move or word LvG says/does, is just ridiculous.

This whole left-footed CB thing LvG's got goin on, is beyond comprehension & of course folk are gonna question things like that. I dont see what the big deal is commenting on issues that concern us fans.

It's healthy to get things off your chest & that's why the Caf is so appealing to all of us..

I was more referring to big money, high profile, PL footballers but I didn't express that very well, so apologies. Fair one on pulling me up on it. And even at that, I doubt "most" is fair either. A large number, no doubt, but probably not to the extent I made out.

The ones I am referring to, though, I have little time for.

Could see us lining up like this
Schweiny/Carrick------Schneidy
--------------Mata------------
Pedro------------------Memphis
-------------Rooney-----------

No idea if that would work or not, but knowing Van Gaal he's one to take a punt on something like this. A lot of talent in our team, its just whether they can all play in the same lineup.
Swap Mata for Herrera for me but seeing Pedro ain't a Utd player we can have both Mata and Herrera which for me would be the strongest team attacking wise we have!

99 to go ;)

It's nothing to do with who you like or love, it's what you see in front of you. I think it's obvious that Herrera has a more varied first touch. He changes direction on the turn like no other player we have in the side.

Mata is more of a goal threat, nobody is disputing that. But nothing at United suggest he's more creative. Herrera slips more balls through to the winger or full back and is a lot more likely to slide a ball through the centre. One of our best team goals last season (Mata's first vs Liverpool) came as a product of the very thing I'm talking about.

Mata's goal threat at #10 is considerably bigger. And for what it's worth, I think Herrera is better suited slightly deeper. Under a different manager it wouldn't be a case of either/or.

at least 10 to 15 mill for Chicharito. he's just been a UCL semifinalist, scoring the decisive goal in the QF
