So, it turns out that last summer's muppet dream was available this summer. Not saying we would have beaten Bayern to him but should we have tried to sign him instead of one of the two that we did?
Why? He's a different player to both Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin and instead of 1 we got 2 mids too.

LVG wanted holding mids. Vidal isn't a holding mid.

Not saying we should have - just asking the question - I agree with you. Many on here seem to think Vidal is the best midfielder in the world so I'm sure they feel different

Probably sounds daft but I'd rather have Schneiderlin than Vidal this summer.

I am going off reaction last summer - maybe he has declined in a year. If so, we must be glad we steered clear in the end
Well last year I think we had reservations about his injury. This year we went for Schmidfield (lame joke I know :D ) and I think that's a good decision. Maybe he'll storm it at Bayern who knows but Vidal is last year story. :)

The bold part makes no sense to me. It's a very easy point to understand. The club have already discussed the possibilities with Di Maria and I am absolutely sure he has been kept abreast of what is happening. You think he wakes up to see on TV what the manager thinks of him or what the situation is regarding his time at the club?
what about valdes situation then? just because its known personally doesnt mean you broadcast it. sometimes managers say things when they should just be diplomatic. wouldnt be the first time.

Now you are bringing two completely different situations together. Make your mind up.

@shivab stop clogging this thread with long posts discussing transfers generally. This thread is for tweets and discussion of those tweets. If you want to discuss the situation surrounding di Maria there's a whole other thread exactly for that purpose.

clogging the thread? the thread isnt clogged. my last few replies have been single lines. maybe let the mods handle it?

reasons why we shouldnt

1. ramos is unhappy. look at real handling that situation. di maria is a world class talent. the reason hes unhappy (by his own admission) is that hes not in the starting XI. let him fight for his place instead of selling him. why would he not try harder to make it into the starting XI rather than sulk on the pitch.

2. theres no reason to believe he cannot perform this coming season. his performances in copa america are enough evidence that hes still a great player. we dont need the money so a drop in value shouldnt worry us.

3. What about all the other players not playing in the euros. are they going to suck because they have no motivation. im sorry that doesnt make sense

4. Not the best teams. di maria just needs assurances. If he was so hell bent on leaving then why hasnt he submitted a transfer request yet and only thing we have heard from him is that he wants to stay and fight for his place?

5. you dont sell a world class 60m pound player of proven quality in under a year just because he hasnt adapted yet.

1. Ramos is being made to stay because he is a fan favourite and the captain elect. Whereas di Maria isn't either. Selling Ramos would be akin to selling Giggs in his prime or so. Even then Madrid woulf probably sell him if we bid his release clause. We aren't because it's too high.

Real is making a mess of the situation by the way. Plus Ramos has publicly said he wants to leave and Di Maria hasn't. Again different situation.

2. He can perform if he wants. Point is if he is unhappy like the media reports( the same media that report PSG are close to buying him) then it's not unreasonable to believe that there is a possibility he won't be at his best mentally. In case of de gea at least, he needs to get into Spain euro team so he can't slack off because he will face competition from reina casilla casillas valdes etc. However Di Maria has no international tournament next season. So there is a chance he may not have the same motivation. He may not do it intentionally but it's human tendency to not be at your best when you aren't 100% content.

3. Lvg has also said that its up to Di Maria on what to do with his future. most of the reports we hear are clear. PSG have agreed terms with Di Maria but no deal has been fixed with United. Meaning United will sell only for a particular price. Di Maria agreed terms meaning he doesn't seem to mind the move. Now to a normal person who read the reports it would seem that he is willing to leave but we aren't willing to a deal. Nani deal and rvp deal showed us that if we want a player moved on we don't really make a fuss about the fee we receive. But here we seem to want more than what PSG have bid. That's opposite to what you seem to believe

4. As for Lvg s words. All he said was its a process. It could mean both ways. He didn't say he is staying because there is something. What difference does it make what other clubs think regarding our players as long as we get what we want? If Di Maria wants to leave and PSG pays us what we want, what really is the point of forcing a player to stay? We may buy better or more suited players rather than that.

I don't want Di Maria sold too and would prefer if he stays and gets back to his best but if he wants to leave then let him leave and all the best to him.

Then i guess single me out and ban me for 'clogging'

  1. Clogging is a type of folk dance in which the dancer's footwear is used musically by striking the heel, the toe, or both against a floor or each other to create audible percussive rhythms, usually to the downbeat with the heel keeping the rhythm.

I'm trying but you seem to not be listening.

It can be difficult to bring a conversation over to another thread though, perhaps people should post tweets about potentially outbound United players in their thread aswell?

Hahah. We're getting carried away here

Or you could just do as I'm asking?

I'm not singling you out, it's just that your lengthy posts are the root cause, with people then responding to them.

If you have a long post to make about a transfer that's fine, but move the discussion to the appropriate thread, it's not difficult, just click the '+Quote' button and then 'insert quotes' when you're in the right thread.

Magic.

Now be a good boy and instead of arguing, keep the waffle out of here.

I guess we can't have this discussion here lest we get banned. I agree with you in some ways and I guess we both agree that (ideally) di maria should not be sold.

Nah. I think I'm done with the discussion. But thanks for the magical advice. You've been a helpful boy.
