I suppose Pedro has been brought up to play the possession football that Van Gaal requires to execute his philosophy. Di Maria showed no progress in that regard last season. IIRC in his last game of the season he was still trying the hardest thing almost every time he go the ball. Di Maria is a Fergie player unfortunately. I really like him as a player, he reminds me of Giggs but Van Gaal wants a player who looks after the ball and considers when to play the finishing ball better. I don't think he will ever play him in the centre for a stretch ever again.

Great post. I think you may have hit the nail on the head there, certainly makes a lot of sense.

Not going to post it, but there are some tweets going around about a Woodward MUTV interview... Truth or BS?

I'm sure it was only £32 million. Wouldn't £42 million have broken loads of defender transfer records? (I've seen quite a few here say it was £42million) Maybe it was in Euros?

You're right, it's £32m (at least according to the BBC).

Apparently about 6:30am. Rumours are he was asked 'will AdM be sold' and he replied 'Not a chance'

MEN are saying he is back in the UK after the game, I'd expect next week to be busy again then

Think we should have learned by now (after the summer so far) that all of this speculation and these links will nearly always end up being garbage and that the media have no idea what we're up to. Stories about us 'eyeing' or 'looking at players' is almost certainly guess work.

Looks like we might be about to be linked with Pedro Rodriguez. Di Maria replacement?

Wouldn't pay much attention to @DiscoMirror, he's the guy who said we were hawking Van Persie around Europe behind his back. Then Van Persie comes out and praises the club and Woodward for the handling of his transfer.

The only reason I remember is because United had been so heavily linked with him and the £30M+ price was always being mentioned. So glad we didn't sign him though, what a clown. He was my favourite City player last year by far, so many truly genius moments.

I really want to hear that but if that was the case then surely LVG would have said so instead of leaving the door open.

Pointless defending Mangala on here so I won't continue with that, but I stand by my point that Stones is overrated.
You are right that trying to defend Mangala on here would be pointless... but some good points have been raised to be fair.

Mangala had a very good reputation on here as we were desperate to sign him/Benatia. Since then, he signed for you for a ridiculous sum of money and has put in maybe 2, 3 tops, good performances. That in the space of a season, for 42m, is pretty poor so you must understand why he gets such heavy criticism.

You raise the point that he has massive potential because you witnessed how good he could be in games vs Chelsea & Bayern. Sorry but Cleverly & Anderson looked like world beaters in a few of their earlier games and look how that turned out (there are many other players who show incredible potential who end up to be duff). Arguing that Mangala is in a class above Stones or vice versa is daft as you are basing it off potential which has only shone in a couple of occasions. There has been much more evidence to assume Mangala will be a massive flop than he will be a world beater.

Who knows how they will turn out but your bias towards Mangala and against Stones is just as bad as the bias towards Stones and against Mangala on here.

There are also pics going around of Woody with some hacks too (Cu*tis from the Sun can be seen clearly). Probably means a debrief and we should expect to hear something soon

Point taken regarding my bias towards Mangala, it's impossible for me not to be biased and that obviously manifests itself in my posts about him. Having said that, to say he has only put in 2 or 3 good performances is just totally untrue, I can name three very good games he had against high quality opposition alone: at home to Chelsea, at home to Bayern, away to Roma. I personally think he has a lot of potential but he's shown his weaknesses and next season I really think he could go either way - we'll either see a defender on the way to becoming world class or one who is clearly blessed naturally but too rash and inconsistent to cut it in the PL at a top club.
