You don't criticise a player in public. That's low from LvG in a presser. He could have just said he's left him behind for other reasons like personal training regime.
Exactly. Unnecessary and completely avoidable

Shouldn't we wait to hear Valdes' side of the story before making judgements?

Yes.

While obviously LVG is entertaining, and very certain of himself, I am quite sure he is not right about everything. Valdes' attitude certainly hasn't come across as bad at all.

If he said he was left behind for fitness purposes, we might be stuck with him and his attitude. I presume they want it well and truly known he is up for sale. LvG is the boss, you cannot have players trying to rule the roost and dictate how they train or what games they play in. Valdes of all people should know what LvG is like. The rest of the players sure as hell know now and god help any who try taking him on.

I can't see why some people are having a go at LvG for what he said about Valdes. SAF was, on many occasions, totally ruthless in shipping a player out who wouldn't tow the line. He also regretted it on occasion too.

So we have a strong & ruthless manager, good, this isn't a party!

Maybe LvG feels both betrayed and let down by Valdes ? We have paid Valdes a lot of money to do a job - and his job consists of doing what the manager tells him to do, even if that means playing at a level lower than he is used to. After roughly 3-4 months at the job he decides he doesn't want to do the job he is asked to do - still LvG lets him both train and play a match. And when he is asked - he answers truthfully.

I am sure LvG has done a lot of things wrong - I am not sure this is one of them.

L'Equipe: Monaco have made a 15 million euros offer for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Adrien Silva.

This rumour is like a turd that just won't flush.

I hope we keep him - he was impressive in the Copa America and it's just a matter of time before he rediscovers his world class form at PL level. LVG's comments don't really help either and just fuel the bullshit factories and aka the paper merchants.

That is what I was thinking but I can't see him offering any valid excuse unless it was a breakdown in communication between him and LVG.

So he'll go on strike to force through a transfer for £37m when he has a release clause at £35m?
Surely he wouldn't need to go on strike if we were prepared to pay that sort of money.
Its meant to be in euros. They are quoting marca and they changed it to pounds completely forgetting to actually convert the numbers as well. Lazy journalism.

There are arseloads of things that LvG hasn't been brutally honest about. He chose to make this issue personal. The rest of the squad will have seen that and Valdes' friends in particular won't be happy.
You have to admit though that LVG had a right to take it personally because it was their personal relationship that made LVG reach out and help Valdes out in the first place. At the end of the day it all comes down to the fact that United helped him at Van Gaal's resquest so he'd be pissed and rightly so.
As for his friends they simply need to suck it up and do their jobs, jobs they are being paid millions to do.

Or maybe they should take it personally too and allow the whole dressing room to become a clusterfeck.

The buck should have stopped at LvG and he should have kept it in-house. Maybe a dressing down in front of the team would have served a purpose, but not in front of the media.

My doubt is if this was such a huge fight since last season, then why did Valdes post a 'come on you reds' tweet about 3-4 days back? Surely he would have known he was leaving? Or is he a fan of the club too?

Which is why LvG has repeatedly fallen out with every single big club he's managed. This was a foreshadow for the inevitable repeating of history.

All big managers fall out with people. Mourinho guardiola SAF even Benitez. Lvg is liked by most players. The only players who don't like him are players who expect preferential treatment like Ribery ibra Rivaldo Toni etc. most others like kluivert Davids schweini lahm even the current players seem to like him. Maybe falcao di Maria or Valdes will have bad things to say about him at a later point of their lives but you can't make everyone happy

How do you know that hasn't happened already?

You're all exactly right, what LVG shouldve done was either hidden the truth from the supporters completely, lied to the reporter who asked a direct question, or left us all in the lerch about it. Honestly, why should LVG spare the feelings of a player who refused to play for us whilst simultaneously taking a wage and using our training facilities to get himself fit?

This. I'm sure Beckham had good mates in the dressing room when Fergie kicked him out of the club.

..and he is still best mates with them while his many of his mates stayed with club long after him and won things.
Club football is a tough world and managers have to make lot of tough choices. Van Gaal mentioned his disappointment in Valdes. I don't think he did it with pleasure, openly talking about Valdes.

 I don't. That's not the point.

One scenario serves a purpose, the other doesn't. What we know is that LvG definitely did the latter and imo he was unprofessional to do so.
Maybe he did dress him down, it didn't serve this purpose, so LvG took it further.

Anyway, I'd argue that it's far more unprofessional to take a contract then refuse to do what's required of you by the manager.

Seems he has no hard feelings with SAF now, either.

He's being kicked out of the club, so I'd say LvG has made his point.

Are you creating a straw man to make it look like I'm arguing the opposite? Two wrongs don't make a right.

He was the same talking about RvP. That he is sad he had to let him go. LvG has to put the team first. If players cannot deal with being sold then that is tough.

Exactly.
Talking about Valdes' mates not being happy is.. Well.. Its pointless.
Not the mention Lackhurst tweet about players not being surprised Valdes is off.
It seems a lot has been going on behind the scenes which left LVG disappointed.
