You don't criticise a player in public. That's low from LvG in a presser. He could have just said he's left him behind for other reasons like personal training regime.

Clearly Valdes had crossed some sort of line with LvG since the latter didn't criticize the likes of RvP and AdM when had the chance to.

I saw another video which LVG said he would only comment on Valdes after DDG left. I didn't catch the interview where Valdes was cited for not attending training.

*Update: I just saw the presser without the players. LVG mentioned about following the philosophy.

He refused to play for the U21's last season, on more then one occasion apparently. Thats the 'philosophy' he failed to follow.

The only one that lacks respect and class in this situation is Valdes.

Indeed. He's been here five minutes. If he's acting like a wanker already then he deserves all that comes his way. He's playing for Manchester United, not his local pub side.

Makes it clear he's for sale though, should speed things up.

If the manager wants you to play for the reserves then you should, especially when the club has helped you recover from an injury and awarded you a contract to just sit on the bench. Bad attitude from Valdes.

Absolutely shocking if true. Show some respect and class to a guy who is one of the most decorated goalkeepers in world football. What philosophy does a goalkeeper need to follow?

Not surprised from LvG really. He's got previous.
So he should show respect to a guy who didnt show respect to neither the club or the manager..

From LVGs words its obvious that his refusal to play for U21 wasnt the only problem.

Can't win. We want to know what's going on and have a go at people for speculating, then LVG comes out and tells the truth and people get upset about that.

LVG signed him injured, rehabilitated him, gave him a new contract, if that's not enough faith, tell me what is? Is it too much to ask for him to do simple things that was asked by the manager who did all that for him? How about Valdes show some respect to the manager of Manchester United, who has won trophies everywhere he has been, how about that?

I am not sure how you can defend Valdes on this. We were paying him a large wage whilst we rehabilitated him for an injury and then he has the cheek to refuse to do the job that he is paid a kings ransom for!

Not to defend Valdes or anything, simple curiosity, but how much were we paying him?

It would have been a bit dumb from our POV to rehabilitate him, whilst already having a number 2 and offering him a fat contract?

I haven't seen any one defend Valdes. He acted like a douche and will be rightly sold.

I think that he was signed as a possible take over to De Gea. I tend to believe that we have known for at least a season that he was highly likely to leave and he was seen as a worthy gamble.

Sorry, criticising Van Gaal's handling of it.

Just because someone acts like a dick to you, doesn't mean you should act like a dick back. Especially not in public. Leaders of men shouldn't behave that way. It's debasing and undermines their authority.

Anyone with management experience knows it's a bad idea. Adults shouldn't act according to the laws of the playground.

saying he didnt act according to philosophy is acting like a dick?

It's airing dirty linen in public. Unnecessary, imo.

The entire squad will already have known the story, so it wasn't for their benefit. It was purely about getting back at Valdes for piquing the manager.

Maybe he has done something so wrong LVG couldnt be quiet about him leaving. I dont think its anything special. He didnt say Valdes is a dirty bastard and he hates him or sthing. Just explained why he's off.

You can't apply normal management principles to the football world, its more soap opera than work place, especially for the transfer window. Speculation on why Valdes was left out was rife and LVG chose to explain why he was no brought on the tour with extreme honesty. Don't necessarilly think he is being a dick as much as being brutally honest.

It's easy to be quiet about something. I'm doing it now. Any manager who cares about morale would have kept schtum.

There are arseloads of things that LvG hasn't been brutally honest about. He chose to make this issue personal. The rest of the squad will have seen that and Valdes' friends in particular won't be happy.

If they're true Valdes' friends they'll see he made a big mistake and now has to deal with consequences of his actions.

Dont agree. Not all managers are the same and not all deal with morale in the same way.
Which is why LvG has repeatedly fallen out with every single big club he's managed. This was a foreshadow for the inevitable repeating of history.

LVG owes Valdes nothing; Valdes completed his rehab with United, received a contract to play (as the manager deems fitting) and thats how he chose to repay LVG by refusing to turn out for the 2nd team when he was clearly in need of game time. Valdes is completely in the wrong here and LVG clarified exactly why.

With our keeper situation being precarious following the moving on of some young prospects and DDG's situation being up in the air at best maybe LVG needed to explain why we would not be moving forward with a 3 time CL winner as back up (or first choice). And as for the team, i am sure they will see clearly the message that they need to play as instructed or expect to be moved on. Most professionals will have no issue with that.
