I expect our incoming transfer business to go quiet for at least a month, think we'll get Otamendi and a striker late August.
Hopefully a few outgoings will happen soon aswell i.e Evans, Chich and Rafael
I won't included DDG in the list as it upsets me

I expect our business to be mostly done before the champions league qualifier. Would be really stupid, if we haven't.

If we are selling De Gea, we should do one more feck you to Madrid and play him in that match.

When is the CL qualifier again?

The last thing I read about ADM, in the build up to the Copa America, focused on quotes he gave about living in the UK, and feeling settled with the lifestyle and the situation he and his family found themselves in. His "grievance", if that's not too strong a word, came not with his domestic circumstances but with the fact that LVG wasn't playing him, and he couldn't work out why. He seemed frustrated about his lack of game-time, and suggested that if this changed then all would be well.
I live in Greater Manchester and some of the green-belt where these players live is absolutely stunning; the properties in Alderley Edge, Prestbury and Hale are absolutely beautiful and are a far cry from some of the industrial stereotypes that seem to inform opinion about how people live in "The North".
I appreciate how upsetting the raid on his family must have been, and I'd understand if this was the reason behind him leaving, but to me he has always come across as a committed professional and I'm certain, if assurances are given by the manager, that he'd be happy to stay.

To be fair if he doesn't yet understand why he had that period of not playing he never will.
He was utterly pathetic in some of his displays and he just simply did not justify being picked.

Which is a shame, because he is a great player, but he needs to grow a pair of bollocks and get his head down.

I think LvG will want everyone in place before the first PL game, I am certain the CB will be in by then.

So it would be good business to get a CB and striker in before then?
Only if Rooney was injured. I can see us signing a striker late in the window, just not those currently in vogue, like Lacazette or Cavani (unless PSG need to balance books). Similar to Chelsea's signing of Remy last year instead of blockbuster type names.

Edit: Definitely would prefer the CB in before August, though.

Wishing injuries to our own players even for a hypothetical situation, so we can get a new signing?! :wenger::rolleyes:

That pisses me off more than most times..

We try not wish injuries on opposition players, leave alone our own..

I understand your point about a new striker.. But really?! Why tempt fate?! Really poor form that.

Err... He's done nothing of that sort?

People saying a remy type signing - there's nothing wrong in signing someone who could actually challenge Rooneys spot. There's nothing wrong with that at all. Else we'd just be buying for buyings sake. We could just shift a few players and probably be fine. Remy was actually a good player before he went to Chelsea. That kinda player lacks ambition if they're not despirate to play week in week out. We should aim as high as possible.

I'm sure you need to read his post again, as I don't think he was meaning that at all.

Err... He's done nothing of that sort?
He said, he can see us signing a new striker if Rooney was injured yea?!

Hypothetically at least.. With an injury ravaged season that we had last year, that is just tempting fate..

OK, reading that back, he did not wish the injury.. My bad.. But I am paranoid with our injury luck..

My apologies if that came off as slating the poster..

Don't know what you're going on about. Read what was quoted and what I was answering. Dude was wondering if we needed to get a striker in before the CL qualifier & I answered we'd only need to get a striker before then if Rooney was unavailable. TBH, I wouldn't mind going into the season with who we have now, maybe adding a 2nd/3rd string striker just in case.

Again.. My bad.. I probably over reacted.. Quoted the wrong person for the apology..

It's all good. It's probably a side effect of the recent dearth in tweets after the flood of them this weekend - everyone is antsy & looking to get this thread going again :D

Probably that and me being superstitious about certain United related things.. Again, my bad.. :)

To your point, we'll definitely sign a striker and CB before the season begins.. I am positive about that..

I probably wouldn't go as far as rating any of his displays as "utterly pathetic", but I know where you're coming from. He did seem genuinely surprised, from what I remember of the interview, at being dropped, and, like you, I can fully understand why that decision was made. Funny thing is, given all his struggles during the course of his career in trying to prove his abilities, you would have thought he could have risen to the challenge and fought harder to justify his position. Mind you, I still think he'll come good; I just hope he's around next season to take his chance.

Definitely need Otamendi by then. As valencia also are in these qualifiers.

Cool, for some reason I thought it was before the PL started. When do we find out who we play?
But yeah would be good to get all our business done before that particular game.

Draw is on 7th August

Can't play Valencia, they're seeded

Before he came to Chelsea? He was a good player for us last season as well.

Yeah he was. I don't mean it in a negative way. I mean it in the sense that Chelsea were lucky Remy was happy to be a bit part player. There's not many of them around. So, if United buy a striker, there's no point us buying for buyings sake. We should look for a player to challenge Rooney not someone who did what Remy did last season.

Remy was a great signing. Some crucial goals.

Agree. Not every good signing has to play/start all games. You need good soldiers, like a Solskjaer, and fillers, like Remy, to compete through the season & multiple competitions. Not everyone can be The Man.

I just can't imagine Van Gaal benching your 300k a week captain for a new, super expensive striker. Now that you actually have top midfield players I fail to see where that would leave Rooney other than the bench if a better striker came in.

He has kicked up a fuss at times before so surely that scenario wouldn't be okay with him.

There is actually something wrong about it. The same thing that made Real Madrid sign our reject Hernandez as backup, Chelsea sign Remy and Bayern using Pizarro as back up. There isn't a top team that doesn't have a clear 9 in their rank and I am pretty they did not miss the fact that there is "nothing" wrong with it

Yeah but you always have to improve your squad. When we had ruud, Sir Alex wasn't scared to bench him for Saha. Mind you though, i'd be happy with Benteke (I know many wouldn't be happy) but I think he'd fit in well

Look at who Madrid have. They have Ronaldo, Bale, Benzema and others. It makes sense for Madrid. They probably even sold a fair few shirts. Our situation is different to theirs. If we kept Hernandez? We might not even need another striker. However, if we sold him then Rooney would be our only establshed forward. In that case, unless Depay/Mata can get 20 odd goals - we would need a quality forward. If that forward got a chance and was scoring week after week? That would be a nice problem to have.

Bear in mind someone being a quality forward is a matter of opinion. I would take Benteke myself because I think we've enough quality in the middle and he has a history of scoring goals.
