Their reward was the mighty Copa del Rey. Long terms, it was one league title and 1 CL. Last time I checked, transfers were done to help you actually win stuff. I understand you are talking more about the profile of the transfers but I think it is very odd to celebrate transfers outside of what they're actually meant to achieve.

Obviously I'm talking about the players involved.

How about brining in Fernando Llorente as the backup striker?

Only on a loan with a very small fee attached should that be even be considered. He's not bad, but nothing special. Aduriz looks clumsier doing it but has been a bit more productive/consistent. Bilbao is a nice place to be the lone striker and go 1 in 2. They play uptempo, hit a fair amount of crosses and the wingers and AMs are more about playmaking than scoring themselves.

I wish these di Maria rumours would go away, Still reckon he could be a huge player for us

I have a feeling that, if he stays, he's going to be brilliant for us next season. The added defensive abilities we have in Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin meant that he will have more freedom.

That is why i believe LVG bought Schweini and Morgan to give more "balance" to the team and allow our exceptional creative players like Di Marie and Mata more freedom to work their magic and have less pressure defensively.

"Si, Mr van Gaal it is I, Sergio of the Ramos, hold your, how you say? Horses, don't buy the tatted Argie, I will be there by August once I have stemmed the hate, Arriba !"

You know, when you put it this way, you would think that Ramos is basically stringing MUFC along, to prevent us from buying a top defender.
I just dont believe that Ramos would be so caring and so savvy, that he is managing LVG, Perez and the Madrid fans...all at the same time.

In all honesty I don't see adm wanting to leave. Specially after the success of our window till now ...

Last year, we did not have Bastian, Morgan or Depay...and ADM was a bench warmer.
Now that we do have those players, do you think ADM is thinking - great?
Or is he thinking , "I'm not even gonna make the bench, let alone get playing time"?

From his quotes I think he is thinking he needs to fight back into the team here. I don't see him playing in midfield much though. He is going to play in RW so signing Morgan and schweini aren't going to affect him. Neither will depay as he may be LW or striker

Or he could be thinking, great since I will have better players around me, I can play better with more freedom and not have to worry if I do lose the ball a couple of times as I have others to cover for me.

Such a weird decision. Why did we sign him then? He's had one game where he looked a bit rusty but kept a clean sheet and made some great saves. So we definitely are signing a new keeper then. LVG's man management can be unnecessarily rude at times.

I had hoped we'd just give him a shot.

I am glad LVG is not sentimental like you.

Why did we sign him? Clearly to give him a try out and he most likely has not impressed in training.

We will most likely get a fee for him.

I hope that's not what he's thinking. Don't think that would go down well with his boss somehow.

Because it's so obviously complete and utter bollocks

He is not selected for the US squad - fact
Doesn't sound very promising for Valdes - can be deducted from that.

Doesn't sound complete and utter bollocks to me. Bit speculative, but sounds plausible.

Sentimental? What does that have to do with anything? He was one of the five best goalkeepers in the world 18 months ago, I just think it would make sense to give him an actual chance at finding that level again, saving the club millions on a new keeper.

What is complete and utter bollocks? You don't think it seems pretty strange that Valdes is not included? If Ogden has contacted the club and been told it's not because of injury, then that doesn't bode well for his future at the club. I don't get your reaction.

18 months ago. Did you see what happened after that? He got a serious injury incase you did not hear. At his age it is hard to recover from a injury like that.

Plus he's a great shot stopper, but the Hull game basically summed him up.

And he was not one of the top 5 goalkeepers 18 months ago.

Surely one game is premature to conclude that he has no chance of rediscovering that form.

And yes he was.

So you think every single player is perfect and never loses the ball? Am pretty sure LVG knows that. Players who run at defenders with pace are more likely to loose the ball than those who dont, but they are also more likely to create openings for themselves or others.

No he wasn't. Courtois, Neuer, De Gea, Lloris and Cech all better 18 months ago. And I could name more if you want, so have no idea where you got top 5 from.

He was hardly convincing in the reserves. You seem to watch him more than LVG it appears.

I am happy that if LVG doesn't seem convinced he's not going to waste everyone's time trying to make it work. There's just no point. You saying it's going to save club millions. A new goalkeeper would cost £25m at most. The same it would cost if we sell De Gea. Hardly a big fee for a club of our size.

De Gea, Cech, Lloris, Hart, Buffon, Neuer

All better keepers than Valdes 18 months ago. And that's without really even thinking about it.

I don't believe Lloris and Hart were better than Valdes 18 months ago. Courtois maybe. Anyway, doesn't really matter if it's top-5 or top-10, all subjective, but people who don't believe he was a top-class goalkeeper back then are underrating him.

Courtois maybe? Really.

I am glad you not choosing goalkeepers, if you think Courtois was just maybe better. The guy was helping Atletico win the league and get to the champions league final. He was the best goalkeeper in the league without a doubt in his time at Atletico Madrid.

Regarding Valdes, I don't see why posters put the blame solely on Louis van Gaal who himself numerous times has praised his staff and stated he listens to their opinion, I think our goalkeeping coach's assessment of Valdes would influence heavily in any decision to conclude he isn't going to be the goalkeeper we need to win the premier league.

The manager appears to be committed in his pursuit for the championship, perhaps him and Hoek don't want to chance it on Valdes who may or may not be good next season.

I think Valdes has a question mark over him and I suspect LVG's remit for the season (after having spent close to 300 million in just over a year) will allow little margin for error. So while Valdes has the potential to return from the injury and be a top class keeper its definitely a gamble and one LVG probably wont want to make with his last management job.

Valdes returned from a serious injury recently. his form is not at optimal level yet. LVG selects player on merit. It is obvious, isn't it?

I wouldn't even believe if Ogden told me I always have coffee for breakfast (which is the case every day), he has no connection to the club anymore since his buddy Moyesy left.

Exactly, I would hazard a guess that @Insanity and @Jev must believe everything they read in the Express too? The British press no nothing whatsoever, I wouldn't believe anything they say.

To present conjecture as fact is very poor 'journalism'.

You may have a point that he is not well informed about transfers and other things but I didn't find anything in that tweet 'complete and utter bollocks'.

He didn't present anything as a fact, he said "doesn't look very promising for Valdes".

Why are people saying things like 'Ogden doesn't know anything' in response to that tweet?

He doesn't sound like he's presenting it as fact. He's not saying 'Valdes is 100% leaving'. He's just giving an opinion based on how Valdes isn't on tour with the squad.
