He's part of the most successful Premier League defence of all time. Was it about 12 games before VDS conceded??

He played alongside top players at the time. He was 18. Vida was 27 at the time which is Evans' current age. He isn't even half of vida or Rio level which he probably should have been by this time. It's unfair but that's how it is. He isn't a bad defender and like brown oshea and many others will be an integral part in a much less important team.

Evans hasn't been poor for just one season. He's been poor for at least two and a half. And don't give me that everyone struggled under Moyes, I don't care about that, the point is Evans hasn't been very good for a while now, both pre- and post- Moyes, which is just not good enough especially considering he's our most experienced defender. Sell him on. I call bollocks on this anyway, why the feck would Arsenal want him? He's midtable standard and 27. He's one of the reasons why our squad got the stage it has. Fergie drained that extra bit out of him but without him, he's plain average just like Cleverley, Gibson, Anderson etc.

I don't believe we should be happy about Evans leaving. He is inconsistent as shit but when he is good, he is extremely good. If he could stay injury free and have a run of games, he could be a big player for us if we son'g sign 2 CB's. Considering the injury rate of Smalling/Jones, we don't want the next option to be McNair or Blackett who are less consistent and aren't as good.

Brown was a terrific defender. Should have down as a top centre back but injuries wrecked him.

Funnily enough Evans was actually excellent when he was younger. No one cares when pique was going because we had Evans. Never really fulfilled that early promise though.

Evans really was good under Fergie. Assured, confident and technically sound defending.

He's been an utter shambles recently though. No sign of any mental strength.

Jonny Evans is a good defender. Rate him. Last season was a nightmare thoughthough
Agree. He was a player of the season candidate 2 years ago. I think the reaction on here to last season is over the top. He had some poor performances but he isn't a shit player as most are making out.

You're baffled by the hate after the season he had? Really?
I'm always baffled why certain fans turn on a player as they're out of form. Not like he's behaved like a cnut & been disrespectful to the club as he wasn't playing. Seeing comments such as this is better than signing Basti are simply stupid. Every player has lapses in form & some players need to move on for the good of their careers, no need to post stupid disrespectful things about them. Evans has helped the team win many honours, shame some are so quick to judge & forget.

To be fair, you rate any player which has ever been a United academy product.

Evans isn't shit but he is no top 4 level of defender IMO. He is better than what he has shown last season, for sure.

He's not good enough for us though. I see him as a decent player for a mid table club.

Rafael, Evans and Jones probably suffered the worst from Ferguson leaving. They seemed to be really finding themselves in that 2012-13 season.

Would say brown and Evans were similar in that . They were good but injured a lot till it wrecked their confidence

No, he is not. When Godin is on song is extremely good. Or Ramos. Or Thiago Silva. Not Jonny Evans. Even when he is good is still worse than the likes of Kompany or Demichelis who aren't that great in the first place.

McNair was better than him last season.

If that Schweini pic is fake, apologies, posted here cos Fjortoft tweeted it.

I think you're right there. And not just Fergie leaving, the real leaders of that defense - Rio, Vidic and Evra left soon too, leaving them to sort of fend for themselves. Evans hasn't been able to cope at all.

When Evens isn't being poor he is making schoolboy mistakes or being bullied by any kind of physical striker.

He is like Valencia at full back, you just know he some kind of brain dead rick in him every single game.

You need to learn to get your facts right.

It's up to Evans. The mistake he made against Mk Dons was systematic of his season and he's an experienced player. You need character to be a top player and Evans has yet to prove post Sir Alex, that he should be in the team week after week.

Evans of 2 seasons ago would have been perfect for LvG. It's weird how his performances have suddenly fallen off a cliff.

i forgive Di Marzio for saying the we're gonna sign Gaitan, the guy was all over the Darmian move.

A lack of confidence can destroy a man. It seeps in and rips up everything in sight. He needed to progress, and didn't. Sadly that meant that complacency crept in, and eventually it stuck.
I imagine he'll be fine again eventually, but probably not at the level we need.
