Hard for me to respond to this post when you contradict yourself like this. No offence meant, I just find it confusing.
All I can say is that the vast majority of the times I have seen Schweinsteiger play in recent years, for Germany and for Bayern, he has been used as a defensive midfielder similar to how we play Carrick.

What I posted was quite simple. Positionally, Pep only employs Bastian as the deepest player when a player like Messi needs to be man-marked out the game. It's not for his organisational abilities, hence why others are preferred in that position ahead of him. (again, see Lahm, Alonso, et al). The single pivote position isn't, by design, a defensive role in itself. It is an organising role, even offensive, since he's the one who circulates the play and picks holes in opposition's midfield.
