But the problem still remains, you don't know if he is going to be fit in the rare occasions where you will need him, a backup needs to be bullet proof, durability is a requirement.

Still rather keep him over Valencia. Fitness concerns and all.

Maybe the two year contract offer for Schweinsteiger reflects us going for him in addition to Schneiderlin? I know, I'm probably clutching at straws... :(

I don't think it is either Schweinsteiger or Schneiderlin

Bastian is not a DM but a CM/CAM

I think we need Schneiderlin or a player like him to replace Carrick but additionally we are looking at opportunities in the market and if Bastian would be available it be too good of a chance miss up. We can use his leadership and skill in the midfield even if for just a couple of years. But I don't think he is the alternative to Schneiderlin.

I hope you're right, and I 100% agree with you that both should be purchased. However, the silence on the Schneiderlin front is deafening

Most definitely DM isn't Bastian's best position. Pep preferred him in front of Lahm, Martinez, Alonso, etc. It's good to have some of Bastian's hustle and work ethic in CM. He provides the balance LvG is talking about.

jose fonte in an interview said that saints were prepared for clyne and schneiderlin leaving. Also says they are close to a couple signings.

didn't post actual tweet becuase i guess it's not journal/source based.

If we lose out on Otamendi and Ramos, Woodward gets demoted from transfer don back to chief dunce.

That City's interest is being reported again means we are back at the negotiating table with Valencia, IMO. Ties in with the Ramos news.

I don't believe we will lose out, it's just the way these thing are reported. There always has to be drama.

Why are you guys saying Schweinsteiger isn't a defensive midfielder?

That's been his main position for ages now.

He's been the deepest midfielder for Germany and Bayern for the most part of the last 5 years. He'd rotate with Carrick or play alongside him.

Let's hope he's better friends with Rojo and ADM than Agüero, Zabaleta and Caballero.

A madrid biased account retweeting an italian account who has only ever done one tweet in english about a transfer between a spanish and english club?

Not saying it's not true- but we have seen this kind of thing before.

Never expected Ramos to come but my assumption will not be strengthened by anything SocialRealMadrid tweets or retweets.

That was in a double pivote under Heynckes. Ever since Pep took over he's been back in CM. On the odd occasion he does play single-pivote, it's because preferred options in that specific role are unavailable.

Even Guardiola said in the recent book following him that he only employed Bastian in DM when he needed a man-marker against an elite player, or else he put Lahm, Alonso, Martinez or even Thiago there because they "see between the lines" better.

obviously. Question is will we sell them de gea

Obviously, if they are willing to pay what we demand. Van Gaal has already said that much when he was asked about Di Maria possibly leaving, he said he's willing to let any player go if they wish so.

Who the feck is that? Have you even bothered to look at his account? Completely nobody by the looks of it. Also saying Madrid are getting Lewandowski and Reus.

Have a day off
He's a self-proclaimed Italian and Spanish football expert, just like Rafael Hernandez, Sergi Dominguez, Jonas Giæver, etc. How about you don't take every single rumour seriously?

Jesus wept, read the rules and go away

They can go swivel for De Gea now (not that I was bothered about Ramos)

If Woodward loses out on Otamendi because of this, and City / Chelsea get strengthened again, then there will be a lot of cheesed-off fans. I might even write him a strongly worded letter
