Maybe the two year contract offer for Schweinsteiger reflects us going for him in addition to Schneiderlin? I know, I'm probably clutching at straws...

I think we need Schneiderlin or a player like him to replace Carrick but additionally we are looking at opportunities in the market and if Bastian would be available it be too good of a chance miss up. We can use his leadership and skill in the midfield even if for just a couple of years. But I don't think he is the alternative to Schneiderlin.

Most definitely DM isn't Bastian's best position. Pep preferred him in front of Lahm, Martinez, Alonso, etc. It's good to have some of Bastian's hustle and work ethic in CM. He provides the balance LvG is talking about.
