Good move for Rafael and almost confirms the Darmian news i would imagine.. how much is he on at Utd? So far between Cleverly, Falcao, Nani, & RVP i've worked out albeit i am no expert that we have saved 35 million a year in wages.

Has someone calculated this over the previous 2 years? With all those players gone, our wages should have dropped a lot, no? Van Persie now, giggs, ferdinand, vidic, evra, falcao, cleverly, wellbeck, kagawa, fletcher, anderson... Some huge wages in there.

Because he almost didn't play in the last two years?
I assume he is referring to those saying its a mistake to let him go.

LVG really doesn't have any place for sentimentality when it comes to clear outs. SAF would have allowed Rafael, Fletcher and RVP see out their careers at United.

Well you'd think someone better than a side in the Turkish league would take a punt on him, considering how he is talked about on here.

He's 24.

Why, when he is to injury prone, didn't play for a long time, while his last full season was great (but that was last SAF's season) and of course he is regarded high here as we always play a lot better when he is in the team (after he gets 3-4 game in a row).

And I love him for it, if there is anything I've hated the last couple of years it has been the sentimentality about some of our players. I'am glad we are finally moving on as a club it has been high time imo. Sentiment should have no place in it, if a player hasn't got it anymore, out and new and better in.

He's also very injury prone which explains why interest might not be high. He could end up at a better club if he proves his fitness in future

I think most people who complain when it comes to Rafael, including me, have a problem with the fact that players like Jones, Smalling (they defend great even at fb, but don't attack properly) and Valencia played instead of him, which clearly had effect on our attack play. We were always more dangerous with Rafael and it was actually a big difference compared to game when the other players played.

Its just sad to see Rafael go. Never thought it would turn out this way.

Within the next 3 seasons Rafa will be at a bigger club

People said that about Fabio as well.

I love Rafael but he has proper Lucas Leiva syndrome on here. The less he plays, the higher and higher he seems to get rated. Maybe it's something about Brazilians.

De gea wants to move. We rejected a bid because it was too low. It's very much possible that we would have told him that we would let him go only for a particular amount.
Or we could have told him we will not let you go this year. Neither of us knows. Also, I was talking about the alleged 40 mil euros that you think we told DDG is our selling price. If we are in our right mind, I don't know why we would let go of a 24 year GK , who is already a top 2 GK in the world, for 40 mil and then agree to the 70 mil deal for Ramos. Makes no sense and I am sure the club sees it the same way.

Georgino Wijnaldum is on the verge of signing for Newcastle United. Great player for them, a fast, skillfull goalscoring CAM who's a real teamplayer. PSV will receive 20m Euro (BBC pay attention) and he's currently in England finalising the deal. He will sign a 5 yr deal earning 5m Euro a year.

Good luck captain Gini!

Not long before Newcastle can field a Dutch XI since they were linked with Vlaar and Dost aswell.

I don't agree with that as in my opinion it kills the soul of the club. Not all players should be kept, of course, but some should stay.

Also, I have a feeling that most people would kick a player out after one-two bad seasons, even if he had good seasons before and is still young.

These are the things I loved about United (giving players enough chances) and I hope they don't change to much.

Imagine it almost doubles then with all them gone.

I'am not saying we shouldn't give players new chances if they deserve them but keeping a player because he has been her for such a long time he has become part of the furniture is just stupid.

I also don't agree it kills the soul. United should be about building new teams, investing in the future and not clining to the old just for the sake of it. Last couple of years have been over the top in this area imo and it gave the impression we as club were either too stupid to realize alot of these players weren't as good anymore as they were so many years ago or we had grown so complacent we lacked the creativity to come up with new alternatives.

I'am very glad I'am starting to see some new faces at the club

The post I replied to was talking about a €40m price saying it may get accepted and I just ran another theory past it. And €70m is the latest price (reported by Spanish papers) which real say they sell Ramos for. and just because you don't see it doesn't mean that the club would not too. As I had said in my original post (which I don't know if you even read) I said 'if the club really wanted him and if he really wanted to come'. We are willing to pay €50m for otamendi And Ramos has more experience and leadership which we clearly lack at the back so we may actually want him. For us €20m is nothing especially in this economy so , if we really want him I don't think we would hassle over an extra £14m or so if it meant we get the quality we want.

Yep, SAF's squad became swelled with 'nearly' players and it probably became counter productive to their development that their place was never really under threat. Players get paid well for their services and if they're not performing then they need to be moved on. I think LVG is fair in how he reportedly approaches it, outlining exactly how much (or how little) game time fringe players will get and allowing them to make the call on what they will do. At least it avoids players complaining about lack of game time later on in the year.

Just ADM & Rooney to go then we'll have a very low wage bill. Value....

Not long? That's not even half a team!

That's only a leftback and centreback they're missing if they get Vlaar and Dost (who both are available). They've been linked with Dost for a while and I could see them get Vlaar on a free aswell. Not that it's my dream or anything, they'd probably get relegated with a Dutch XI but it's good to see for me that we finally are sending players across the borders again.

In 3 years Rafael will be playing in the Brazilian league like Anderson and most of the football fans in europe will have forgoten his existence
If he can't get over his injuries then this is the more likely scenario. However if by some miracle he remains inury-free he will have a great career in Europe. That's the difference between Anderson and Rafael.

Surely not. He is so young, why would he go to Turkey?
Nice weather & a massive big fat contract.

If he manages to stay fit he'll be picked up by a better team, of that I have no doubt. Very good player, just very fragile. Maybe the warmer weather will help him.

If he can go to Gala it is really more than he could have hoped for.

Tought he would end up at some Portuguese or Italian fringe club and be battling with them for staying up or moving back to Brazil.

Sky reported about a week ago that Napoli, Fiorentina and Galatasaray were interested in Rafael and we were willing to listen to offers for him. I guess Galatasaray have won the battle for his signature, but considering Napoli's need for a new right back (they were in for Darmian as well), a move to Naples would have been a better move for Rafael. He'd have played for an ambitious side in Serie A, fighting for a place in the Champions League, competing against sides such as Juventus, Roma, Lazio and the re-emerging Milan clubs.

Anyways, I hope he does well in Turkey and proves his fitness. He deserves to play in a better league. After all, not so long ago he was one of the best right backs in the Premier League.

Good move for him. Are you bummed out he's leaving Max? Was quite important for your title push last year I think?

It is long ago in my memory as distant as being top of the league, winning titles and seeing SAF with that silly hat on during winter. Different era, one that is in the past and isn't coming back.

He made the same promis as Memphis Depay to become champion before leaving, he could've left last season but he didn't. He was captain and is a very likeable guy, PSV will miss him on the pitch but that's just how it goes. I just hope he does well in his carreer, really is a quality player.

He will most likely be replaced by Propper from Vitesse, he isn't half bad either. 20m Euro is alot too, PSV made 52m selling just 2 players. That's insane for a Dutch club.

He's 24.

He's 25, was his birthday yesterday.

I'd still keep him, fitness issues aside he's still a good bloody fullback. I can only think he wants to leave for 1st team football.

That's probably the only thing that you can't put aside, a player that can't play regurlaly is useless.

Same. I'd rather keep him than Valencia.

Right, I remember that he promised that too. Well done in terms of making money, and making CL. Will do wonders for PSV in terms of financial health. And indeed, Pröpper is not bad at all. Any idea who will be the new captain?

Antonio Luna leaves Villa to join Eibar. I still remember his goal in his debut vs Arsenal at the Emirates in that 3-1 win.
