That's why I said its an excuse.

By delaying I mean delaying medicals and terms etc. I know Martinez is not currently being paraded around the Vicente Calderon with a scarf above his head but he is signing.

I never get why our club feel the need to be so different and secretive though, are we that afraid some other team will gazump us?

I don't understand, Martinez didn't passed his medicals. And what is the point in announcing an agreement with a player that isn't physically available?

People should stop being so impatient. What clubs have signed more than about 1 or 2 players so far? It's a week until the window even opens.
I know, but people being people. I give them a week after they'll all become desperate and start crying about United doing nothing and being the absolute worst in transfer market.

After all the crap in May about how we have been preparing for next season for a lot of time, it doesn't seem like much has changed at United .

I do have trust we'll get players required but I was reading myself earlier about how they had been planning for the 2015/16 season since the turn of the year regarding incoming/out going players and players currently on loan having their futures assessed. All this to be prepared for preseason US tour. van Gaals own words in presser so I will be shocked if we have only signed Depay by the time we fly out.

But players can have medicals performed by international team doctors if they require so. Also a lot of announcements are made saying player will sign subject to medical.

After what happened with Fabregas and Thiago do you really have to ask?

We don't really need to know about it before it's done and dusted right? I like it better that way.

That's rare, most national teams hate to see their players using their spare time with transfers. And United want to organize the medicals themselves.

I must be the only one who thinks that those figures are probably about right! As brilliant as De gea is, a goalkeeper who wants out, in the final year of his contract, is never going to fetch mutch more than 20m, 25m tops. And Ramos, one of then best centre backs in the world, is surely going to be valued at around 45m, despite being 29. So we've got to be looking at about 25m plus De Dea, which is pretty much 40m Euros.

You're not. I said the same.

Who the hell would be like that!

Yeah I meant those pressers only , I know that we will obviously sign players but it's dissapointing that we seem to be again going towards the late buys

People like myself? Take it easy, pal. I never said anything about buying a first 11 of established players. Don't put words in my mouth. Di Maria and Falcao flopping means feck all. It's the exception, not the rule. Reality is, Real Madrid's first eleven is full of world class players that'd improve not only us, but almost every team out there. Players like Ramos, Varane, Carvajal, Kroos, Modric, Ronaldo and Benzema would fit in Van Gaal's system like a glove IMO.

Signing top, established players is a necessity. The big clubs have to take chances on them if they want to stay on top. You can't just avoid paying the big bucks just because there's a chance of things not working out. More often than not, they do work out and the fact is we need to sign some top, established players this summer if we want to make up the ground on the other top clubs in Europe faster. These players offer world class ability as well as invaluable experience. That's why we're after Ramos and Schweinsteiger. They'd improve our first team immediately and also allow us to have a run in Europe.

I'm fully aware that the top clubs develop as well as buy. It's the right, successful tactic to stay on top. Only buying is not a financially sound tactic and represents too big of a risk. We'll never be a club that only buys top, established players and rightly so. We've always given chances to young players to develop at the club and become integral parts of the starting eleven and I don't think this would ever change nor would I want it to. There's been a slight change in transfer strategy though. With Woody, we're going after more and more top, established players. That's the new reality for the club, as Fergie is not here anymore and with the club being a global brand, there's just too much at stake to stay on the sidelines for more than a couple of seasons and it's only natural to think that the distance to the top could be shortened by signing some top players.
First of all, apologies for the aggressive tone of my original reply. I have to say I do not see the situation entirely like you do. I do not consider all the players you mention an obvious upgrade and think that with the exception with Messi, Ronaldo, Suarez and such, it is really much more complicated to be able to tell who would improve a team and who would not. I think the vast majority of those other supposedly world class players are highly dependent on outside factors like the formation of the team, style, league, culture and so on. The best teams establish a system in place to that they extract the most out of their players and complement it with a Suarez, Neymar and Bale to get to that extra level. That was similar to ourselves where Fergie established our style and methods and bought accordingly, Ronaldo provided that added something to raise us from a good team to a great one.

That is the reason I believe it is a waste of time to just buy ready established quality to build a team and lower the gap. I think the first step is to set some sort of foundation at the club. We will need to buy to help build said foundation but the profile of the player is not the most necessary aspect in that phase. That is why I feel any signing that is not an attacking game changer like a Messi, Suarez, Robben or Ronaldo is a 50/50 and never a guarantee.

July 1st. Players who played internationals report back July 11th. Depending on how well Argentina do Rojo and Di Maria will probably meet up with squad tail end of tour.

and Otamendi :D

Liverpool building a very nice squad , good thing that they didn't do this last summer.

Never seen this Brazilian lad before but I'm really not phased by them getting Ings and Milner, I'm not seeing much improvement over last season there
