First of all, apologies for the aggressive tone of my original reply. I have to say I do not see the situation entirely like you do. I do not consider all the players you mention an obvious upgrade and think that with the exception with Messi, Ronaldo, Suarez and such, it is really much more complicated to be able to tell who would improve a team and who would not. I think the vast majority of those other supposedly world class players are highly dependent on outside factors like the formation of the team, style, league, culture and so on. The best teams establish a system in place to that they extract the most out of their players and complement it with a Suarez, Neymar and Bale to get to that extra level. That was similar to ourselves where Fergie established our style and methods and bought accordingly, Ronaldo provided that added something to raise us from a good team to a great one.

That is the reason I believe it is a waste of time to just buy ready established quality to build a team and lower the gap. I think the first step is to set some sort of foundation at the club. We will need to buy to help build said foundation but the profile of the player is not the most necessary aspect in that phase. That is why I feel any signing that is not an attacking game changer like a Messi, Suarez, Robben or Ronaldo is a 50/50 and never a guarantee.

No worries.

I agree with your point about the outside factors. There aren't any guarantees when it comes to a player being a success after his transfer. Not even the world class signings are guaranteed to succeed like we saw with Falcao and (probably) Di Maria last season and players like Torres and Shevchenko in the past.

The Madrid players would fit into Van Gaal system IMO, like I already said. Even though Madrid's style of play is not possession based, they'd be able to adapt to the new system with ease. Actually Di Maria was by far the riskiest signing from Madrid we could have made. He's always been a risk taker and like we already know, Van Gaal doesn't really tolerate risks as they lead to players losing the ball much. Us signing him actually raises some questions and sometimes it looks like a feck up from the management. I mean, why would you sign a world class player who's 27 and then attempt to change his game and take away his main strenght. It's weird. If Di Maria had stayed another season at Madrid and we were linked with him this summer, all of us would have been saying things like ''must be bullshit, he doesn't fit LVG's profile at all'' and other similar things. I'd like to know why Di Maria's form suffered that much last season. Was it because Van Gaal tried to change his game or did he just struggle to adapt to the demands of the Premier League? Probably a little bit of both.

We need the right signings for the foundation and it'd be better if they're top players, as we need players that would take us to another, title challenging/winning, level. Players like Ramos and Schweinsteiger. They are world class players with vast experience and leadership abilities. Players like them could be the difference between another struggle for the top 4 and a possible title challenge. There aren't any guarantees though. We could just as easily sign Schweinsteiger and watch him spend the season on the sidelines or sign Schneiderlin instead and watch him get found out in a truly top team. That's where Van Gaal and his judgement for players comes in. We just have to be patient and trust his qualities.

For the love of God who the feck are we after. The silence is killing me!

Seemingly a chance to show how big our power is instead of just getting the ripe options, oh and a striker who is big and doesn't mind only having 10 touches a game and not being involved in the play.

I really don't see the point in posting tweets from random fans like him. He's tweeting about wanting Bayern to sign someone with crying faces like a 12 year old. Just post the original BILD tweet/any journo's?!

I appreciate your contributions to this thread, though. Don't get me wrong mate.

Not exactly tweets but transfer news nonetheless -
Roberto Pereyra joins Juventus from Udinese
Andrea Bertolacci returns to Roma from Genoa

All he did was translate the text at the bottom of the Sportbild cover. He didn't give his own views.

Surely Steling to City must be done, they've maybe told them to hang fire with their £50 million bid so they can tie up this guy, and Bacca..... Oh how I'd laugh if City change their mind.
Wouldn't mind Firmino going to Liverpool but Bacca on the other hand looks like a top striker. It will be a shame if we aren't interested.

Who are Cadena COPE? Is it like The Daily Star saying they've got news or will we actually get something?
If outlets ever have anything valuable to say, they'll say it as soon as possible to beat competitors. When they announce ahead of time that they will make an annoucement, it will not be anything important or at least won't be anything that wasn't already considered as fact anyway.
