The transfer Muppet in me want to get excited about Ramos, but the sensible part of me wont let it happen .
I remember Dembele embarrassing our midfield on a number of occasions while he was at Fulham with his power and energy. I was annoyed when he joined Tottenham.
Not to mention that he is as good as it gets when it comes to the type of defenders LvG wants, getting Ramos would actually be the kind of deal only the biggest clubs can manage. I would go as far as call it the kind of deal only Real Madrid can manage in the sense that it's an integral player playing for an elite team. That image and profile boost would alone make it worth it IMO.

Our defence does not lack numbers, it may lack quality but not numbers. I don't think we should just stock up for the sake of it as I believe Smalling, Jones and one of Rojo and Evans are more than good enough to occupy 3 of the 4 centre back positions with McNair getting the odd game here and there.

In this case, it means apparently have tentatively asked about a price for a player and that player's price is speculated aas being close to a world record fee for a defender. So we're close enough to have spoken to them, but not close enough that we even know for sure what their price is, much less having agreed to it. Close in indeed....
