Rumors picking up on Twitter that we're in for Witsel. Having the option of playing Matic & Witsel as a partnership actually sounds pretty nice.

Replacing Mikel's place in the team with Witsel is a definite upgrade. Having Matic, Fabregas, Witsel, Ramires, and RLC to choose from is a great set of options.

Can you pretend to be a United fan again please?

I would like him at united. Think he'd be a good buy for you.

Absolutely disgusting to see him in that shirt.

Cech would never have fitted into LVG's passing style. I don't get what's so hard about that to understand.

LVG likes keepers to be very good with the ball at their feet. See Valdes/VDS/De Gea/Cillesson. Cech is very very average in that department.

But very very good in the other department, you know the one where he keeps the ball out of the back of the net.

I had a rather long, drawn out discussion about this the other night so won't go in to all that again but I get what you mean, LGV wants to be able to play out from the back which is fair enough but getting someone like Cillesson in because he can pass better than Cech would be damn right foolish because the latter is a much, much better goalkeeper.

I get that, and not saying he will but especially a position like GK, I think it makes little sense to choose a comfortably weaker GK simply because this guy is good on the ball.

I dont get this 'I'd rather have a great shot stopper then great passer' kind of attitude that keeps being mentioned. Why not have both? And we do. We have Valdes. He's a great shot stopper and great with his feet.

Exactly, LvG told me everything I need to know about Cillesson, and he showed everyone what he thinks of Cillesson when he subbed him for Krul before the penalty shootout in the World Cup.

He only told you, that he cared about stats and mental games. At no point LVG told anyone that Cillessen wasn't good.

I loved it for the tactical reasons, a great move, but are you telling me he would have done it if Van Der Sar was in goal? Or he would swap De Gea in a CL final? I'm not saying Cillesson is not any good, but that move doesn't fill me with confidence about him. I'd happily put Valdes in and give him a chance and wait for someone better to come along.

Absolute nutso post.... you know who else had a horrible record saving penalties? Only the greatest keeper ever Peter Schmeichel.

Every time I see your username, I keep thinking you're a Spurs fan. 'Lennon' for Aaron Lennon and 'NL' for North London.
My surname is Lennon and my first name is Niall, hence LennonNL (my initials at the end). Devastated though because it definitely looks like a Spurs kind of username now

Might have to make my location "definitely NOT North London"

Edit: although, I don't know many Spurs fans who see Aaron Lennon as their favourite player! Especially as far as to have their username after him

That orange is just ghastly isn't it?
;)

At least it'll be one fewer keeper wearing short sleeves like an idiot if Cech goes there. Sczczccz looked really dumb wearing short sleeves with his scrawny arms.

The facts are very simple Cillessen never stopped a penalty shot during his short career (I don't know how many he faced), on the other end Krul had stopped penalties regularly. So LVG thought that it was a good idea to use Krul because his stats were better and it would make the Costa Rican think a little bit too much.

And to be fair just use your logic if LVG thought that Cillessen wasn't better than Krul it would have been him on the bench not Krul.

Yeah, you're right. I admit I worded that post badly, I agree it made sense and was a tactical stroke of genius. I meant It didn't fill me with confidence about Cillesson, as I said if it had been Van Der Sar I don't think it would have happened because the confidence would have been there already.

Luckily Cillessen has already denied rumours about Manchester United then. He's a late bloomer at 26 and this is his second season he's played at Ajax when he was benched for years before, I don't think he will leave Ajax for our bench since he signed a new contract. He wasn't even first choice for the national team, so I severly doubt van Gaal with all his funds would sign Cillessen. If he wants a Dutch goalkeeper it'll be Vermeer (again - very unlikely to happen).

I don't think Cillessen is good enough yet, but he's a very talented goalkeeper. In the last 2 years he's been mostly great, I don't know where the 'he's shit' remarks come from as those people clearly don't watch him. Penalties is his only weakness, he's very solid all-round otherwise and with goalkeepers lasting much longer I can see him having a good carreer.

He also can't pluck a cross out of the air for toffee.
