i wonder why. genuine question.
Some think that his ridiculous goalscoring record masks his lack of overall contribution. This is obviously no problem 99% of the time but in games when he is shut down or not scoring, it's like they're playing with 10 men. Unfortunately for them that 1% of times is enough to come just short of Atlético last year and Barcelona this year. Not saying that I agree with it or anything but that seems the consensus among a few of their fans.

This Gianluca Di Marzio guy might be worth putting on the banned tweet list for this thread. His tweet that we might be signing Jerome Boateng was about as clueless and ridiculous as it gets...At least make up something that sounds believable you lemon

If we did this then about 99% would end up the banned list, even Andy Mitten who apparently has "inside contacts" got a few wrong last summer.

He's not better than Jones at this time and he is only one year younger. Smalling is clearly better than both.

Maybe when he'll be 25 Varane will be better than Smalling, but to suggest he already is... that's just laughable. It's ridiculous how much this kid is overrated here, probably has some high rating in FIFA or something, because it's clearly not based of his performances.

You serious!!!

Are you talking about the same Jones who is injured 80% of the time, in comparison Varane is a regular at Real is regarded as one of the best young defenders in Europe.

Now this will really send the transfer muppet to overdrive.
I may well be in a small minority but I dont want him back at United, he is not a team player any more, his reaction to Arbeloa's and Bale's goal prove that.
Agree with that. His and Van Gaal's personalities clashing would be toxic for the dressing room.

Yes, I am serious, Jones has been better this season. Also I am pretty sure that if you don't take into consideration European games, Jones has at most 4-5 games less than Varane this season even with his habit of being injured 80% of the time.

Don't know who he is but seems to have a lot of saints fans following him. Would be pretty stupid if we're holding off on Schneiderlin for Schwinie.

That would be so fecking stupid. Too miss out on a 25 year old, who could be a mainstay in the team for the next 8-10 years, just to pursue a 30 year old, who's had plenty of injury/fitness problems, and who is past his 'peak'.

If we do this and Schniderlin ends up at Arsenal I'll be absolutely livid.

He's got a point. We are ridiculously harsh on our defenders because we see them week in week out and because we compare them to Vida and Rio. The consistency and leadership qualities of those two are extremely rare if not non-existent nowadays and as a result our defenders always look like they're not good enough. But when you look elsewhere and you watch others consistently, you notice very similar shortcomings. I am not saying that Jones and Smalling are as good as anyone in Europe but when it comes to old fashioned tough defenders, if you take away Silva, Terry and Godin, there really is not much between ours and the rest.

Hopefully as toxic as the Ronaldo/Benitez mix :D

It doesn't matter, there is no way he will come here until he beat the scoring record in Madrid...However I think one season with Benitez and he will be clamouring for a move back to OT. We may be able to get him next summer.

If Arsenal get Cech and Schneiderlin (and a CB) that would be fantastic business done by them this summer.

I reiterate, Schneiderlin's transfer should have been prioritized in the same manner that Shaw and Herrera were bought last year.
I don't think Schweinsteiger can be as effective as a CDM in the EPL as Schneiderlin.
Bastian is getting old, slow and increasingly injury prone.

Agree with all of that.

If we could get Schneiderlin and Schweinseiger, then great. But the priority should be Schneiderlin. Bastian can be the cherry on the already wonderful cake.

I think it should be between Schweinsteiger & Gundogan as to who we want to partner Schneiderlin with Gundogan being the preference.
With a strong CDM like Schneiderlin it will free Herrera and Gundogan in the midfield to play to their potential.

Schneiderlin would screen our back 4 with almost a Keane-like effectiveness, how can LVG not see that?

If its stupid i guess you can bank will do just that.

Who haven't we been linked with from Bayern and Real this summer? It's still only June. Christ.

It's almost like the press have no idea anymore and are just click baiting a new player every other day. Oh wait. That's exactly what it is.

Actually agree with this. I watch Messi, Suarez and Neymar take joy in each other when they score, Ronaldo just looks pissed when someone else scores.

It's surprising that he hasn't been completely consumed by his Ego already. He'll probably end up at PSG and is still an insane talent and I wouldn't say no to him even though I wouldn't be his biggest fan

That doesn't matter as long as he scores 60+ again...

He only looks pissed when someone 'steals' his goal, he was more than happy when Chicharito scored against AM
