Selling Maguire for about 35 million could make sense, not twenty. If he goes, we need a replacement and they are not cheap.
It only makes sense if there's a buyer willing to pay that much. Otherwise we're stuck with a 200k a week 4th choice ageing centre back.

He's your 5th choice CB, why would you spend a lot of money for his replacement? He's making £10M a year for the next 3 years, as a guy who barely plays, he's 30 and his value is just gonna keep falling, wouldnt it be better for you to take those £20M and reinvest them in a younger CB with upside and low wages? Saving those £30M in wages should be as important as the transfer fee.

Agree - £20m is a joke of an offer, but something with a 3 in front would get us to the negotiating table at least.

Alvarez who went to City for peanuts

I still think Pep sometimes signs players to stop teams around him strengthening, Alvarez was a classic example. Grealish too.. and I’d even go as far as Haaland,
some end up forcing their way into the team, but I don’t think he really has a plan for everyone he signs

Next you will accuse him feigning interest in players to make other teams go for wrong players or make them overpay Like Maguire, Fred and Sanchez just for United .

Haaland from Molde made so much sense but we will probably never get the truth of that story

Great progress on Hojlund. Hopefully only a matter of time now.

I do wish we had got an experienced goalscorer too,he could have taken a bit of the pressure away
Seen a lot of rumours today that Adidas have given the green light to United to re-integrate Greenwood back into the United squad. The Sun is running a story in it as well ( I know it's a crap source but the Sun seem connected to his agent).

Seems likely that he will be the other goalscorer added to the squad

Shame the taremi links neve came to nothing, he would have been the perfect type of expereinced striker to help out alongside hojlund

It's still possible, depending on the budget left.

What's most important to get a senior athletic enough player capable of playing 40 games per season at the highest tempo in the style we need, regardless of age. Even if he turned out to be a non injury prone young Danny Welbeck he would be a great addition now. That's how empty the market with strikers became..

Lots of big names getting involved now. Looks like this is pretty much done. The fee looks too large to me but need some sort of striker signed for start of season. Hopefully the wage he'll be on is at least reasonable. Not fully convinced he'll be 1st choice immediately but hopefully he can outperform my expectations.

I think they're including add ons*.

Yeh, I thought the price was a bit steep but on today's exchange it's just over £60M. Which is a sizable amount, given his level of experience, but I expected we'd be settling about 5M north of that. Don't know what the add ons amount to but in today's market it's not massively unreasonable.

That makes a lot more sense than him coming in and being the number 2. It's illogical to put a young kid who needs to play in that role.
True, but in this case I do not quite understand what is the plan regarding goalkeepers - given that we seem to be ready to sell Henderson, Kovar is going to be sent loan/sold and Bishop is close to leaving. We are left only with Onana and Heaton…

Maguire won't be sold, the Glazers won't want to fork out for a replacement. Maybe a bid of 40m or more might tempt them but it's not happening.

my monthly reminder that the club spends as much as anyone under the Glazers

200m last summer, looking similar again this year

Dubravka on loan, innit

Actually, I’m looking from the players perspective specifically but also from both clubs. I do agree totally that Atlanta does not need to make any decision in a hurry as they’re aware Hojlund is targeted by some clubs and can keep him for another year, however, every transfer shall also be in a certain realistic way handled. If they put an insane price tag of 80-100 Mio., there will be almost no clubs to pay this, apart from the players decision to move to a club where he doesn’t want to be.

We did once the mistake with Martial paying over the odds and gave him an ultimate contract and now we’re having difficulties to get rid off him, just like with Harry and other companions. So at least in this aspect, I think we have learned and will give Hojlund a lower contract and with time we’ll see how he develops so we can renew.

I’d even expand the striker market apart from the ones mentioned with Ramos, Martinez and Toney, so there’s some decent players on the market. Haaland and Hojlund have some similarities at least from their professional career, both played in Austria, then went to Germany and Italy respectively and, the latter is at the point to make his next big move just like Haaland did. I really hope this deal is wrapped and we can move on.
Hojlund is not at the point to make his next big move. What? He needs at least another season before he's ready for a big club move.

Haaland was. Not comparable.

If the plan was to sell Maguire and get a replacement then surely we’d have gone for Timber for £35m

We need a tall strong backup for Varane not a midget. Playing with Timber and Martinez is inviting teams to target us with long balls and crosses.

Plus Ajax would have screwed us into the ground if we'd goner back to them so soon after last summer.
