Moussa Dembele on a free transfer and then keep working on another striker?
Taremi is a good shout, and Thuram, as discussed elsewhere, on a free, could work as 2nd fwd, being versatile enough to cover the wings. I think Dembele has maybe fallen off a little and lost his lustre. Bad loan in La Liga and erratic record in in the French league itself (good season, poor one, good, poor), though sure he'd still do better than WW... More likely to go somewhere like Fulham (for return) if he moves to the PL.

It's not a tweet but nobody mentioned Luke Shaw's Instagram story from an hour ago?

Harry Kane and Declan Rice Carrington Tour.

They’d all be put off is if they did a tour of our training facilities no?
They've been revamped tbf (not to excuse our parasitic overlords, but it's been documented that Carrington has been renovated and further modernized somewhat, even if not enough to R7s standards, and unlike OT on the whole)

Yeah EtH makes the offers and negotiations....this isn't football manager....
I don't think even our cowboy outfit is lax enough to keep escalating their price in negotiations (and eating into following Summer's budget) if they didn't get assurances that ETH wanted them to keep pursuing the player and was prepared to take the hit on budget in return for substantially paying above the odds for the player. Likewise the FDJ pursuit. I still blame the club more re. laxities in strategy and structure, including not having a strong enough DoF to ensure we had alternatives sounded out and lined up, but some of it is on ETH making decisions when he was asked to de facto serve as chief scout and director of strategy last summer. Imagine what a better position we'd be in if he picked up a player for 45m who could do most of the things Antony does, and then signed someone like an Enzo Fernandes when he was still cheap(er) for the remainder, or made a push for Caicedo or insert dynamic, technically good young CM.

Looks like this main striker search will drag out for a while because everybody wants their pound of United flesh. Think we should sign Taremi and at least lock in a striker before the season starts while we chase the second striker.

Yeah that would be very sound strategy

We've seen over the years that success at youth level does not often translate into success in the first team so for me the academy consistently producing players who can make the transition, at United or elsewhere, is better.
Every academy can produce players that can transition at their club or elsewhere. All football players literally came from an academy somewhere. Were not better than anyone at that realistically.

Last u21 squad not a single United player whereas city have them in the squad across every position. How could you possibly argue we have a better academy when former players would rather their kids went there?

Having an academy and being able to transition a player from the academy to first team are two entirely different skills for a club imo. The fact that Fletcher is trying to bring his kids over to United at this age is proof of that really.

Noticed a drop off in interest in his KMJ stuff, so he suggests United still being in the hunt after days of saying it was a done deal to Bayern.
Please take off your tin foil hat

To be honest, its clear that Romano gets a majority of information from agents. who of course only share the information that is in their interest.

Six hours ago the agreement with him and Bayern for a five year deal was 'at final stages'.

Two days ago there was 'still no fresh bid from Man Utd'

Suddenly United are back in the frame. The guy isn't stupid, stick Man United in the tweet and watch it bring in the views.
He definitely gets more of a kick from social media numbers than his actual reporting of transfers.

Kim Min-jae hasn't fully agreed personal terms with any club at this stage. He is open to joining Bayern Munich because they're the only club that have been in direct talks with him. Neither PSG nor United have approached him directly despite their interest. In that sense, United can still come back in and offer better terms than Bayern Munich.

Until Kim Min-jae fully agrees personal terms with Bayern Munich, United aren't 100% out of the race.

So and so is 'on the list', 'mufc appreciate him', 'sent scouts multiple times'. Easy lines to throw in and never be challenged on when he knows nothing. Same every window.

Problem is Maguire won't shift himself

It's always such a weird period for transfers. Half the players are on international duty. The other half is on holiday.

Maguire staying isn't why we aren't going after KMJ. I doubt we'd go after him even if we let go of Maguire. United are always watching good players no matter the situation in the squad. Even if we moved on Maguire, I doubt we'd go after KMJ until we addressed our priority areas, which are the striker and midfield roles.

Any one of us can start tweeting as if we were a person in the know. Just add some big name/big club hashtags, regurgitate or make statements that can be spun either way - bam you're now a footie journo.

Do it then and you'll probably see it really isn't as easy as that. There are thousands upon thousands of accounts that try and do this and have barely any traction or followers.

People moan about people like Romano but what he does really isn't easy and he'll be wrong or badly informed plenty.

Isn't he saying the opposite, united expect him to end up at Bayern so are looking at other players?

I hope our current scouts under ETH are far better than the ones of recent previous years.

Seems odd for their to be internal conflict within the club regarding whether he should stay or go. I know the takeover sage makes this more difficult but it just doesn't seem like good planning. If we want him to stay as no.1 then his contract should have been sorted ages ago. If we wanted him to leave we should have been clear with him in order to be more active in the transfer window for a keeper. It seems like we were stuck in the middle or sort of wanting him to stay but in a no.2 position or at the very best as no.1 with a huge threat of losing his position (similar to Leno at Arsenal when they signed Ramsdale).

We're at least in a position where we can let DDG go and keep hold of Henderson until we find a no.1 keeper. Even if we couldn't find a replacement, I think we would manage okay with Henderson as the no.1 for a season. Even if he doesn't set the world alight, we'd still be able to sell Henderson next summer.

if we didnt want to renew DeGea than surely it wouldve been more prudent to get someone in before his contract runs out and the selling club take us to the cleaners. or, even when it comes to such a critical part of the team, we dont know what it is we want or what we are doing.
