Beckham - 19 - 10 Appearances (mostly cup games)
G. Neville - 19 - 27 Appearances (helped by the onset of Paul Parker's Ankle problems)
P. Neville - 18 - 34 Appearances
N. Butt - 19 - 35 Appearances
R Giggs - 18 - 51 Appearances
P. Scholes - 20 - 25 Appearances
L. Sharpe - 17 - 30 Appearances
W Rooney - 18 - 43 Appearances (and was an Early birthday in the season so spent the majority of it as a 19 Year old
A. Garnacho - 18 - 34 Appearances

Those are not first appearances, those are the ages at which they became regulars in the first team squad, so don't give me the 'well managed' spiel.

So Garnacho is firmly in the top half of those that you listed and much younger than most of them as well.

What a fantastic point you didn't make.

What's press resistant? It is a 2023 way of saying good footballer?

Yes, let’s judge United and the sport in 2023 as if it’s still the 90s and sports science, competition, etc have not evolved/progressed. Rooney was done by 28/29 by the way - he still played, of course, but was not the same player

United just had a season in which they played around 70 matches by the way. But yeah, if “in the good old days” is the hill you want to die on, be my guest.

Again, Garnacho has had plenty of game time and has been managed very well.

18 year old defensive midfielder who is press resistant.

I don't know much about him other than his name but these are the type of signings I like to see us making in seasons like this when we have limited funds. His per 90 stats on Fbref look very impressive too.

I’m not sure - but here’s what happened in the dream.

- we were playing Brighton
- we took a 1-0 lead through Bruno
- Brighton equalised
- we subbed DdG off for Onana
- Brighton took the lead with a shot Onana could have done better for
- Bruno got injured
- we lost the game 4-2
Well that's me convinced then. Do not want.

It's acknowledging that opponent's are defending from the front regularly in comparison to the past where the managers who adopted such a approach, like Michels (Ajax) or Ernst Happels (Feyenoord) were labelled ideologues or anamolies. But those ideas have become mainstream in the EPL and resisting and evading lines of coordinated pressure is now a talking point.

A press resistant midfielder has the ability to resist high pressure from the opposition when in possession. This requires skill to retain the ball in tight spaces.

basically something we lack in our midfield.

Mcfred can't do it so get someone in to replace them.

That makes zero sense Fab. If we've pulled out of the contract and offered him less again, he ain't gonna be number 1 next year.
There were reports that we would go for a young keeper to challenge for the no.1 spot if DDG stays (the Dutch keeper going to Brighton was mentioned) or if DDG leaves we would by a new number one (Onana the clear candidate) and back up keeper.

Effectively, if DDG stays, we might sign a random upcoming goalkeeper, and keep DDG as a back up in case the new signing struggles, rather than spending big money on Onana for DDG to sit on the bench. I'm sure even our second contract offer to DDG is a higher than what typical no.2s will be getting.

I like Tom Heaton more than adequate as a no.2 for a season, age is the only thing against him, but better command of the area and in the air than DeGea, good shot stopper too, not suggesting he is long term solution or should be no.1 but easily good enough to back up for a season and save us signing 2 keepers this window..... think he is very under rated

Can’t say I’m overly enthused by Mount but at least it’s over with and not dragged on too long…onto the next one

Well, hopefully Mount makes a real difference for us. It's a very large fee for a player in his final year, no way of denying it

welcome I guess?.. can honestly say I haven’t been this unenthusiastic about a signing since …Maguire??.. I hope ETH knows what he’s doing

The signing still does not address our major problem of control and presence in midfield. Relying on Casemiro alone to play deep is suicide. He showed three separate critical times last season why that is the case. We need another CM/DM this window. Plus CF and GK. Want to see how the club swing this one.

Ironically that’s kind of how DDG got into the team to begin with.

One of the main decisions to be made is to actually play the most exciting prospect we have by far instead of bloody Sancho. The lad has been cruelly underused whilst Sancho f**** up every run and pass he makes for 80 minutes - Garnacho is then given ten minutes to come on to perform miracles.

Yes, I am angry about this.
Garnacho's minutes have been good for his age and his status before the season.

Weird.

Cruelly underused and yet recently very happy to sign a new long-term deal at the club. You're angry over nothing.

So instead of 50 guaranteed + 5 in more attainable add-ons, we've gone with 55 guaranteed + 5 in more difficult add-ons. I guess it's a small price to pay, but I honestly wasn't expecting an increase in our guaranteed amount. With that said, Ben Jacobs (Tier 2) has been reporting the whole time that United's upper limit was actually £60m, and that's now the case.

I’d love to see more tweets of several different journalists commenting on this Mount deal please. Each one more the more ground-breaking than the last.

You say this, but there's actually new info being highlighted in each of these subsequent Tweets. If it was truly repetitive, then I'd get it. On the bright side, at least there's no "Here we go" Romano Tweet posted in here.
