Why do you think that is out of bounds? I am actually surprised by that number and would be willing to bet that there is no chance Everton sell him for that amount and it would take at least 85M. He's young and English and they aren't going to get relegated, so I imagine they would point to Harry Maguire and laugh if we offered 70M.£70M for Branthwaite, feck off
We won’t pay 70 mil up front. 45 plus ad ons. Possibly rising to 70 mil would do the trick£70M for Branthwaite, feck off
Is he feck!Branthwaite is worth about 40m max, we have to stop paying these stupid prices for unproven players.
Poor example, it’s widely acknowledged that we hugely overpaid for Antony. He is valued at €35m (£29.8m)on transfermarkt currently and even that is a depreciation on what we were initially quoted.£80M now gets you Antony.
Ok, how about a different exampe, Gvardiol, he was around £80M if not more if I remember correctly. Is he worth just as much as he? Who has not exactly lit up the PL when he has playedPoor example, it’s widely acknowledged that we hugely overpaid for Antony. £70m for Branthwaite is steep based on what we paid for our current CBs.Its twice what we paid for Varane!
Comparing to Mainoo/Gvardiol is a flawed way to value a player. By that logic we could also say United signed Garnacho, a player who could wind up being our POTY this season, for £420k. Let’s double that to £1m and offer that for Branthwaite. What do you think Everton will say?Ok, how about a different exampe, Gvardiol, he was around £80M if not more if I remember correctly. Same here, if given a chance I would pay £150m for Braithwaite and Onana. Young British talent in defense more often than not pays off, look at Shaw injuries notwithstanding , Rio back in the day and even the likes of White for Arsenal. It's also very hard to find players with a perfect blend of physicality and technique like those two possess. Is he feck!
£70M is reasonable.
I’ll put it to you this way….. how much, if you had to, would you sell Mainoo for? Then apply that to Branthwaite, who had had as much as, if not more of an impact than Mainoo has.
You're joking I hope.I would pay £150m for Braithwaite and Onana.
70m is stupid money for a player that’s just broken through forget about proven anything whether you like it or not.Is he feck!

They can keep him if they want £70 million . We should never pay that amount of money up front ever again . £40 mill plus add ons is fineMoaning that £70M is too much but then also moaning that Chelsea got a steal at purchasing £40M for Palmer (but at the time claimed it was too much for a player who has had 19 appearances for City)
If you want a good player, you’re gonna have to pay for him, swear this forum still lives in the early 2010’s where you the sorts of player you’d get for £40M is VASTLY different to the player you get for £40M nowadays. Ronaldo went for £80M in 2009 and that was seen as astronomical now! £80M now gets you Antony.
While it seems a lot, this forum would bitch and moan if City got him for £70M and complain why we didn’t do the deal “because he’s clearly good enough”
Are you having a laugh? Young British defenders are overrated and overpriced like we were fleeced with Harry and Wan bisska.Same here, if given a chance I would pay £150m for Braithwaite and Onana. We won't be playing these stupid fees under ineos.70m is stupid money for a player that’s just broken through forget about proven anything whether you like it or not.
As for Mainoo, right now he’s around 40m max too for the same reasons as branthwaite and that should be the price for him.
Thank God you are not in charge of our recruitment. Neither are good enough to play front foot footballSame here, if given a chance I would pay £150m for Braithwaite and Onana. The problem I have with this story valuing Braithwaite at 70 million is that, at that price United would be paying the maximum premium for him this summer.
Wait 1-2 seasons and he might actually be worth that value. But currently it’s 1 good season = 70 million. I’d say no thanks, United need to be smarter with their cash.
Ferguson for example was touted as 100+ million last summer, but he hasn’t looked close to that valuation since.
Players having good form or big potential are not automatically guaranteed to succeed.
As if Everton will agree to that.Or we can structure a deal with massive add-ons but not based just on league appearances etc. More like titles. I think Rooney was like that? Eventually, if we win a PL title I doubt we would care if he just become 70m squad player in a team that wins the league.
Fully agree on Branthwaite. He looks promising but going much further than 40m would be nuts. We just have to play it smarter going forward.
Tier 2:
United want to bring in a new athletic centre back and younger midfielder.
This is the mentality why we have overpaid for average players in Harry, Antony etc.Why do you think that is out of bounds? I am actually surprised by that number and would be willing to bet that there is no chance Everton sell him for that amount and it would take at least 85M. He's young and English and they aren't going to get relegated, so I imagine they would point to Harry Maguire and laugh if we offered 70M.
I’m scared man!That's a very sensible transfer
Tier 1:
And a year later Enzo Fernandez cost more than 100m and still isn’t up to speed in the PLI like Braithwaite but certainly dont get the fuss over Onana....what are we talking £ 120-150m for the pair, that is ludicrous. Just watching European games the last couple of weeks we had Enzo Fernandez go to Benfica for under £10m lat year, Alan Varela to Porto under £10m, Lukeba for for £30m odd to Germany. We had links to all of them.
And we are rumoured to be spending out on these two. Just look at some of the top top midfielders and defenders around Europe at the moment including those in Portugal. Sorry I know its premiership prices but we would me mad to buy either of these two, especially Onana who is for me limited
Yes of course, there are no guarantees with transfers. And ideally we could wait and see if Braithwaite has second season struggles next year with Everton, but he could possibly improve and then his price would go up even further, or a Chelsea could swoop in ahead of us, or any number of things. And in the meantime would we be going with the same bunch of injury prone, or disaster prone, or old-age prone, CB group? The problem I have with this story valuing Braithwaite at 70 million is that, at that price United would be paying the maximum premium for him this summer.

Is it the same mentality that lead to paying record amounts for Rio and Rooney? Or paying the large fee for Rasmus after only 9 games or whatever at Atalanta? This is the mentality why we have overpaid for average players in Harry, Antony etc.
