I must add the caveat that I don't know much about the top foreign managers, but, yeah, in trying to read up on all the suggested ones then I'd say Nagelsmann definitely seems my preference.
Also Xabi Alonso, but the Liverpool connection (and likely destination) makes that seem very unlikely.
I'm a bit worried that most of those available seem to be either young and up and coming, but no experience of top clubs or winning major trophies; Or they have the latter experience, but seem nowadays to mostly be on the merry-go-round of big clubs and getting sacked quite quickly rather than building any long term success anywhere.
Nagelsmann seems to be one of the few who falls somewhere in between - still young and up and coming, but already gained experience managing Bayern Munich and Germany, two high profile jobs. He'd also, presumably, be an easier and cheaper person to get as regards compensation as isn't his contact up at the end of Euro 2024?
Good summary and yes, his contract only goes through Euro 2024 but I'm not sure what the likelihood is of an extension if Germany does well in the tournament. I'm sure at his age he'd prefer club management, but the allure of leading Germany in a World Cup could be hard to resist!

Disagree entirely. This is still a work in progress. I believe he will get us there, but forcing a style onto a squad of players who aren’t able to do it is just suicidal. We’ve seen you can’t play out with DDG or the chuckle brothers in defence. You can press with CR7 up top, or players like Sancho and Martial who don’t want to do the running. You can’t control the middle of the park playing with McT and Amrabat. Its just pragmatic to play to the strengths of the players available (which by the way haven’t been our first choice).
We’ve also seen recently when our first 11 are fit we play much better. We’ve used more than 20 different player combinations in defence alone this season. You can’t coach patterns of play and form player partnerships when the team is changed that often. Erik deserves to at the minimum see out his contract for next season with the resources and support of I rid behind him then we can judge fairly across the 3 seasons.
I personally don’t find ETH to lack charisma. He is Dutch after all, I don’t know a dull Dutchman, they are all characters.
I think he is guarded to protect himself and his players but he isn’t boring.
He did ship out Garner and Hannibal though who are both better on the ball than McTominay and Amrabat. McTominay has been useful as bugger with his goals, but he's started loads and he's rarely going to be part of a midfield that dominates. I'm not particularly confident in ten Hag's ability to judge ability/potential at the moment.

One thing is for sure, the role of a manager with us is about to drastically change from here on out. It’s going to be much easier compared to what Fergie had to do. I think it’s far too much to expect a manager to do everything with all the extra advances in the competition and scrutiny on the sport now and especially with the crazy finances involved.
We've clearly needed specialists for ages when we are losing that type of money and doing such damage to the brand around the world. We need to find an edge again. In some regards it’ll be a lot easier for the next guy, all he will have to do is get the players to buy into working hard for him and to pick the team based on that but the reality is the manager is going to have much less power than ever before at this club. Players and agents will be going over his head for their livelihoods as soon as things aren’t going well but the flip side of that is managers won’t be able to protect or stockpile underperforming players either.

Did fine on the pitch up until they hit a very poor run of form after the mid-season break. Overall he just wasn't a great cultural fit for them. Not the first time it's happened and won't be the last.

Makes sense Malacia seems like he was just brought in as a squad player not really first XI. I think Luke Shaw will still have a place in this team with his ability to play as both as a LB and CB fairly well

I didn't say we weren't clear to spend? But it would be the best thing for FFP if we sold an asset that cost us zero, we could effectively overhaul a lot of problem areas from the sale of Greenwood.

It doesn't make sense for United directors to fly over to sell a player, it should be the other way round if Barca are trying to sign a player. Think there's more in this than reported.

I'm envisioning a scene similar to that famous one in the IT Crowd, when they try to play a trick on their boss, hand her a box and tell her it's the Internet and they've borrowed it for the day.
