The two situations aren't remotely similar though. Alonso's incident was also over a decade ago while representing a different club and he was punished by the law.
Not at all he didn't do it on purpose.
So the morals aren’t as strong as some people made everyone to believe they were. Interesting.

Alonso is literal human garbage. I’d be incredibly disappointed if the club signed him.

Some people just looking to argue 24*7, fighting over feck all hypotheticals ffs

If there was sufficient evidence of his innocence it would of been brought to the public attention so the club could keep possibly the greatest asset we have
Different cases
Each crime has its own moral or immoral value
And lastly, I wonder when people will move on, he’s gone or going (thankfully) let’s move on as well
Ok, I know you specifically don't want to discuss it further, but to close off (and for anyone else reading obviously) that really isn't true. Like, there are 20 scenarios why the club or even the player would not want evidence (specifics of which we can only speculate on) brought to light. Some of them might have to do with providing his critics with more ammunition, of course, or if you're inclined to think he definitely did it then it might be because 'the new facts aren't convincing'. But there are other explanations relating to privacy, both of third parties in general and specifically that of the alleged victim' in line with their wishes as well as potential protection of reputation.

Again, there has been talk about this elsewhere from people who claim to be more acquainted with the couple, but...I'm not going to speculate here or bring up the little I've read, I haven't been following all the ins and outs and rumours. He really might be guilty of course. It's really just a point of principle as much as anything which I'm bothering to comment on this stuff - if we're going to talk about it, then at least let's try and stick to what we know without injecting prejudice or contributing to the pile-on or trial by social media (without the full facts).

I can't believe the manager is willing to let McTominay leave this late in the window, not without a replacement.

You don’t think that a replacement has been planned?
If McT goes, we're definitely getting someone. Question is if RG is involved in a mutual loan-with-buy option swap, or if it's just Amrabat (or wildcard- Thuram amongst others has been discussed as option, if not directly linked)

Not at all he didn't do it on purpose.

"He was the driver of a car that collided with a wall, killing one of the passengers, a 22-year-old woman, having been driving at 112.8 km/h (70.1 mph) in wet conditions in a 50 km/h (30 mph) zone, with a blood alcohol content of 0.93 mg/mL of blood."

Have a rethink.

I'm sure the Cafe could invent a player profile/bio and within 15 minutes the twitter ITK's would be claiming United were considering a bid.

At the same time many on here will convince themselves he's exactly what we need.

I'll make sure I remember this defense if I'm ever in similar situation

He's a complete idiot and scum but he didn't go out to deliberately kill someone.

What Greenwood did was deliberate there's a difference.

Both are scum but Greenwood is moreso

Getting behind the wheel while drunk and killing someone is not as bad as being abusive in a relationship... really?

I know it's a stupid comparison to start with but come on. How can perspectives be so out of whack.

Someone forced Alonso to drive eh?

Utterly wild

Let's just ignore the insanity and say Alonso's garbage in football terms so let's stay clear. Nothing else needs to be added.

He did 70 mph on a wet surface in a 30 zone and killed someone - it's not like he did everything correctly and accidentally killed someone - in my opinion that is a hell of a lot worse than what Greenwood did

United would come across contradictory to sign a player like Alonso if the decision to offset Greenwood was on the basis of perceived morality.

It's a standard the club will now have to follow irrespective.

I don't want us signing Alonso. I agree with those saying there's a lot of mental gymnastics to make out what Alonso did was ok. It's not the same crime as Greenwood (allegedly because his case still isn't proven) but it's still a terrible crime that he deserves massive criticism for. He's fully responsible for ending another human being's life through his actions. He also didn't get the jail time he deserved for it, instead being able to pay a quarter of a week's wage to get off basically scot free.

Hoping it's Cucurella or Reguillon
