He should want the Europa League trophy to add to his collection. He's already got plenty of CL's!
He only cares about being all time top scorer in the champions league. Knowing Ronaldo, he's probably already thinking that he needs to rack them up to ensure that Haaland doesn't overtake him.

this is guy worth 500million + and can earn a million for a Instagram post.. and he won’t play for 360k a week. Mental
This is a man who actively seeks to evade tax. Not a surprise to this morally moribund cretin.

First revealed by @RkkMan in the Frenkie de Jong thread:

Source (written by Luis F. Rojo):

  • As part of de Jong's contract extension agreement in 2020, Barcelona deferred his salary payments until this year.
  • For the next 4 years, Barcelona must pay to de Jong:
    • €88.58m for the fixed salary + loyalty bonuses
    • Variable payments
      • €8m (€2m/year) if de Jong plays 60% of the games
      • Max. €12.8 (€3.2m/year) for trophies won/if the team reaches the CL final
  • As a result, de Jong effectively breaks the salary structure that Laporta is trying to establish.
    • Possible justification for letting de Jong go despite saying otherwise in public

No wonder we're the only club in for him. Those are crazy wages for someone who's not even world class and who's commercial pull is nowhere near the top players.

Lord knows how this club is showing that its learnt from past mistakes if we sign De Jong on wages of 400k per week plus bonuses ffs.

Eh define ‘world class’ please

Isn't his actual wage around 250k a week? It is higher for the next few years in all of these cases for Barca because he deferred the vast majority of his wages since 2020 - the reduction from 14m euro to 3m and 9m euro for each of the past 2 years.

Someone who's comfortably one of the very best in their position in the world. Someone who's integral to their team. De Jong is clearly neither of those things. He hasn't kicked on since he left Ajax. He'd be a good signing but those wages are higher than Salah's ffs, is he a better player than Salah? Would he be the second best player in the league or if Ronaldo leaves, the best? His wages would make him the highest paid in the league.

Nope even when he signed for them, his wages were reported to be around 400k per week. Utterly insane, De Gea, Sanchez levels of overpaid.

I thought with the likes of Pogba leaving meant we finally turned a corner but evidently not. The effect this has on our wage structure and the knock on effect of what other players will feel entitled to, leaves us in a mess. Good luck selling players in the future.

On the right back front I still struggle to imagine we can't find someone better than what we have even if it's a player like malacia who is relatively raw

On dm - you can get defensive midfielders who aren't destroyers , thinking of someone like Rodri. One of the issues with de jong at barca is he hasn't found a position to make his own and has been found wanting defensively when playing deep. I can't see that getting better in the pl particularly if paired with someone as positional useless as mct or fred

Thing is Rodri still offers that steel which is a very different profile to De Jong

More likely the appeal of adding to his trophy haul and his champions league goals tally is enough for him to take a pay cut. Why would he take a pay cut to play europa league and lose one year from adding to his champions league tally. He’d probably want more money to play europa league to soften the blow of that lost year. For him it’s all about being king of the champions league and losing a year out of 2/3 he has left to add to that tally is a huge loss to him.

Then why sign a contract that says otherwise?

How reliable are those reports? This article seems to be very detailed about the whole contract and is saying that his wage was 14m euro a year, which is much less than 400k.

I have no idea how reliable any of these articles are, but the level of detail presented would be a lot weirder to make up than the standard sensationalist reports of players wages.

EDIT: Key snippet

Only £360,000 a week you say... however will he survive on such meagre money!
I can fully understand why he'd want to leave now. Modern day slavery working for that! Poor guy! :(

Yeah... thats just absolutely ridiculous. The fact he's upset at that is shocking.

In fairness, if my colleagues were useless underperforming wastes of space, and I was working hard and being successful, I wouldn’t be happy to take a pay cut.

Odd to take a series of tweets about the disaster which is Barcelona FC and spin a response exclusively critical of United.

What @Devil_forever fails to realise is that the 400k total that the outlets reported back when he first signed included all of the variable payments. In this case, he's only earning €400k/week this year because of the deferred payments + the loyalty bonuses. Otherwise, his fixed salary is supposed to be ~€269k/week as Luis Rojo reported. I doubt that United would do business here if they were made to offer Ronaldo-level salaries to de Jong.

Concern at Barça with Ali Dursun, Frenkie de Jong's agent.

The agent is 'absent' and the club has been trying to sit down with him for days.

On the table: transfer to Man. United or stay with a salary reduction.

Thanks to @Berbaclass in the Andreas Pereira thread:

Andreas Pereira has accepted Fulham's offer and will be sold by Manchester United. The midfielder will sign a contract with the new team valid for 3 years (with the possibility to extend for 1 more).

Fulham will pay £9 million and can pay another £3 million in bonuses.

That's pretty much echoed my thoughts and reading of the situation. Not a chance we would be paying FDJ that level of wage

Pogba
Henderson
Cavani
Mata
Matic
Lingard
Pereira
Ronaldo ?
Telles?

How much is that a week in wages Saved ?

Agreed, I don't think we can get away with de jong being the deepest midfielder in the pl
Carrick seemed to manage ok, he was hardly tough as nails destroyer type DM.

I think an intelligent reader of the game can easily be just as successful.

Honestly I know it's super unlikely but if we are able to sign Eriksen, Malacia, De Jong and Martinez this week / next week that would mark an impressive change compared to previous windows where we took forever to make signings.

Coupled with selling some of the fringe players like Pereira, Jones, Telles and a few others and it would be almost a miracle by out standards
