That would be amazing. Unfortunately, I believe they are a crap source.
Even though I like De Ligt, De Jong, Antony, Timber, Lisandro Martinez individually it does feel a bit tunnel visiony if those are actual targets.
It does beg the question what exactly are our scouting department up to, doesn't it? But hey, paper talk. We'll have a look at the end of the window.

This is exactly why I've been criticising the club during this window, there seems to be no pong term planning, just asking the manager who we should sign, which means you can't start talking to targets until the manager comes in.
But if you bring it up you'll get the green smiley army saying you're crying because there's been no signins yet (which isn't really the point).
We need to indulge in Hag, seems to be the narrative around here.

There were reports saying Hag wanted control over players brought in this summer. Its understandable but this whole process in the past year of hiring a long awaited DOF and reshuffling the transfer process looks likes its been put on hold so Hag can get his 'gang back together'.
I think we do to a certain extent. Our structure is brand new, there isn't a lot of experience there in terms of building a team and ETH presents a completely different playing philosophy. Over time I assume the structure being put in place will be tasked with recruitment rather than taking pointers from the manager, but we need to ensure that ETH feels he has a team capable of actualising his style of play. The ex-players links are quite understandable in my view, he already trusts those players. But whether they'll be priced within our range is another matter.
How does everyone feel about our Ajax heavy wishlist? I do have a concern in the back of my head that if Ten Hag doesn't work out we'll have a specialist squad the next manager won't want to use.

Matters not if the next manager shares the same playing system. Jumping from one to another with no thought of systems shouldn't happen anymore.
Exactly my thoughts! It's a Catch-22 situation I suppose because the board does have to back the new manager... maybe that's their excuse for inactivity.

A lot seems to be changing now but thats going to mean that we can't be in year 3 of a long term plan when its only year one.
For now we will have to recruit and scout in a short term-ist fashion or we won't recruit at all.
Would some of you prefer that we just signed the players that Ole wanted because that would be a demonstration of longer term thinking.
We have been a fecking mess of a club. Fixing that will take time. I have no idea if we are doing the right things now but things are being changed. You can't expect miracles or no hiccups.

Who should have ultimate control of player transfers? Because it's the manager that will be the first out of the door if we underperform.
We're criticised for not having an identity or a style of football, but if we zone in on one style, we then risk it failing and needing a new manager all over again. I don't think the club can do anything right in the eyes of some people really. This appointment seems to be a long term investment, and I sincerely hope he's backed in terms of time and resources. We need an identity, a modern, progressive way of playing and a system that allows us to compete. I'd rather trust a manager that has clearly had success playing an eye catching style of football, than go out and target different players before he's even walked through the door. This transfer window was always going to be tough, but I'd be hugely concerned if we're not more prepared next summer.
What happens if (hopefully not) Ten Hag fails and we're stuck with players the next manager doesn't want?
Hire someone who can identify how the club should play, then target players that can play that way, it's why you have a director of football along with a team of scouts identifying players that can play a certain way.
It's that balance between signings like De Jong and Antony (along with Van de Beek) who know how Ten Hag wants to play vs signing players who have technique and ability to learn that system but might have more long term potential. I personally think Pau Torres is a better signing than Lisandro Martinez for this reason (albeit their fees might be quite different).
The actual key thing with a DOF etc is having an idea of how we want to play long term. So if we want to play possession and pressing football (generally) then if Ten Hag fails you target another possession and pressing coach who could use the same players. The problem we've had is the lurch from LVG to Mourinho to Ole.
We go after a manager that plays a similar style? I'd imagine we've identified Ten Hag because we want to play this style of football in the long term. It's super simplistic to say its a high press, short pass ball retention style influenced by Guardiola, but there are other managers that play a similar style.
For what it's worth though, I agree that we should have player targets that suit the style of ten hag. We've known he's coming for long enough. But he might not feel comfortable signing players he knows nothing about as soon as he walks through the door. Especially when it's ultimately his job on the line.
The argument of incompetence should come about only after ten hag is gone and is replaced by a completely different style of manager, as has been the case in the past. But it's a new DOF and hopefully he's more competent that the last clown that jumped from giving moyes a six year contract to van gaal a year later, then to mourinho then solksjaer. The way we've recruited managers has been laughably short term.
So instead just sign players who the manager doesn't want?
Surely the manager has to have a say in targets - I'd guess he gave them a list within the first meetings but we're just so slow to act.
The main issue is bringing in managers, all with different styles of play/players they want to fit their system (see LVG, Mourinho, Ole).

Obviously don't look to sign players that doesn't fit his style, don't be so hyperbolic.
What I'm saying is that leaving it until a few weeks before the transfer window opens to start talking to players means you're months behind other clubs already - now we're stuck with players who have played under Ten Hag, that narrows our market too, making it expensive.
Your last point ties into what I'm saying, we should have a long term strategy, but we seemingly don't.
Time will tell if things have changed, but on past and current showing, they haven't.
Maybe it’s just that I don’t follow them as closely but is there another club so keen to frequently reiterate how confident it is about transfers, while also being, let’s just say, sub-optimal at actually doing them.

Nothing suggested so far is specialist. The concern of course is if players like Timber and Antony have what it takes to transition to the Prem, but that's a factor regardless of who you buy and indeed in recent times our Prem signings have all turned out to be pretty poor.
