Depends on your price usually. But if a player is surplus to requirements and isn’t going to play a role, it doesn’t matter much if he is sold for a modest price - it’s still a pure benefit compared to him being paid a wage for nothing
Not only on price, but on the players wage demand ie, which rules out most of our dross from moving elsewhere, my point was its easy to say sell x, y, and z, but in reality it's not that simple.

Clearly Chelsea may afford Maguire wages, there is no doubt about that. Same with Garner - he is not on a high wage. Sell those, increase transfer budget

You say Chelsea can afford Maguire's wages but they haven't bid for them to test us, have they? You can't force another team into bidding for your players.

We need numbers, because with the schedule we’ll have to rotate forward players, but I much, much prefer we focus on getting in the right players. Antony will be expensive but he has the probability (not certainty) of being a key player for many years to come. Asensio is the sort of player we’ll be looking to shift in 2 years on a massive contract, and replacing with more dead wood. Better to spend more on Antony but have a player who won’t just be another average warm body to fill the squad.

Rashford, Martial, Sancho and Antony competing for 3 spots is excellent competition. With Elanga and Garnacho as rotation options. That’s enough for me. We have still have some old Portuguese fella we can bring on for the last few minutes apparently.

I’d also love us to look at Joao Pedro from Watford. Available at 25+5m I believe, and I think he has big potential.

Tend to agree. Rather spend that money on Joao Pedro than Asencio. If we need energy, better to run out Elanga & Garnacho than giving RM more funds.

Yeah, gotta figure it's DeJong or Antony, not both. More likely Antony at this point but maybe the holdup at this point is to give Barca time to convince DeJong to take our offer (although that Liverpool mention in the gossip thread has me a bit worried). Recent mentions of FFP for various clubs hints that the market is almost done, especially on the high end.

Yeah can't see it being De Jong

Tier 2:

This is in response to CaughtOffside claiming that Sporting are close to bringing Cristiano Ronaldo back.

Is there an official act that constitutes "registering interest"? Asking for reals. Is there a formal process?
There isn't. It's not like submitting a formal bid. This can be as simple as sending a WhatsApp message to a director telling them that your team's interested in the player and would like to commence negotiations.

Yep. Antony and Pedro would improve our forward options significantly and investing in young talent is important. Get rid of Ronaldo and Wan-Bissaka for whatever we can get to help balance the books, at least in terms of wages. And next summer we should be looking at De Jong, Malo Gusto and a goalkeeper that lets us play out from the back.

Sell players to increase this limit, what’s the problem? Sell Maguire, Bissaka, McTominay, VDB, Tuanzebe, Garner, Pellistri - every bit helps in this regard

Because if we sell those players - we need to get new players to replace them. Would you feel comfortable having 3 centre-backs knowing Varane's injury history ? Would you feel comfortable having Dalot as our only right back and having Casemiro, Eriksen and Fred as our only central midfielders ? I wouldn't - so that means we need to find 3 new players in addition to Antony. In 1 week.

Or maybe ETH doesn't want to sell McTominay and Maguire ?

Would you consider selling Ronaldo and Maguire to bring in FDJ and Gakpo?

Assuming Antony is certain , I would absolutely.

We can get away with Lindelof, Axel and Jones with Casameiro and FDJ ahead of them. Not to forget, Shaw can fill in as well.

"Can't afford" - assumed this would be the case. Shame though as the midfield is still pretty poor. Best hope Casemiro isn't the next Schweinsteiger
A midfield of Casemiro, Eriksen and Bruno is not poor at all. Imbalanced? Yes. Not poor though. We need a progressive ball carrier and someone to dictate the tempo for sure, but I think with those 3 + Fred on the bench we should be ok for this season. Antony is a must now though.

When we bought Schweinsteiger it was obvious he was on the decline. Casemiro looked like one of the best midfielders in the world last season. Still at his peak.

I suspect it'll be Fredemiro and Bruno most of the time. Playing two AM's together in midfield regularly surely can't be the plan can it?

I think it is. If he’s doing it against liverpool, he’s definitely going to do it against the smaller sides.

I think a midfield of Casemiro and FDJ + one of Eriksen and Bruno would be a ridiculously strong and balanced midfield.

Eriksen's played deeper over the last two games, to mixed effect, but I think Ten Hag needs someone to be an immediate outlet for keeper/CB balls, even with Martinez able to spread play, Casemiro adept at diagonals and the keeper mixing things up with distribution (as much as they're capable, in De Gea's case), and then able to transition between the defensive and middle zones quickly.

If we can't secure De Jong then moving Scott on or Garner with a reasonable buy-back and bringing a final-year contract stopgap like Tielemans, for all his weaknesses, wouldn't be the worst thing in terms of having an alternative for that role when Eriksen is injured/off-form/needs a break. There are probably stronger options, setting aside the 'Prem proven' dimension, available elsewhere like France, but there doesn't seem to be an appetite to gamble unless Ten Hag pushes for it and his preference still seems to be predominantly Eredivise centred, which I can understand although it is slightly frustrating.

How is it we can bring in 2 centre mids, and there's still a need for another one.
Will we ever satisfy the centre mid conundrum!?

We will never ever progress until we get a player capable of dictating play. We ignore it season after season it's the most depressing thing ever.

Its the profile of player really. Casemiro was def needed. Eriksen tbh is a great player but we have players of his profile at the club already. So we esentially brought in one that was needed and one that wasn’t needed per se but does make the team better. We also lost Pogba and Matic, and even with them here we needed a CM. So it makes sense that we still need one more who can dictate the tempo of a game.

Antony and a loan move for Newcastle's backup keeper seems a bit of an underwhelming end to the big transfer push

All talk no action, happy with what we’ve got already but that will show the club ain’t serious about top 4 and the owners have once again fooled us. Also these YouTube channels who said we won’t let the glazers have the hook no matter who we sign have forgotten that and just talk about the pathetic speculation that’s been going on since this Empty Old Trafford movement began.
