I still think there’s legs in this, especially if FDJ suddenly becomes available EtH won’t let that opportunity slide

So why did we spend all summer focused on him and him only? Is the only obstruction that stands in our way the €17m Barca owes him?

Agree. If FDJ is to move this summer then I think we will make an exception and pay up. I suspect he stays though.

Just can't see him becoming available much as I am desperate to see Whitwell & co with egg on their faces. Annoyingly they are tier 1 for a reason.

Missed the Casemiro signing?
Different type of player. They would be the perfect midfield two for us. I’m happy with Casemiro joining, but FDJ will be immense.

I forgot to include one more thing that possibly stands in our way - he does not want to join us. I still hope we can squeeze him in this summer (If he does want to join), then focus on getting a RB and GK next.

Waste of a summer when there were (and are still) more atttainable midfield targets that would improve us. Casemiro alone is not close to enough.

Just Casemiro in still leaves the midfield unbelievably and woefully short lets be honest. As great as he is, he can't play every second, he won't always be fit, and he will have off days.

It seems like Antony and/or Gakpo, and a GK, the RB rumours have cooled down a bit but we may still have one lined up

Really hope the club hierarchy are prioritising a RB signing. We’re fecked if we don’t.

Laird on loan. We seem open to selling AWB and Dalot is really bad at football.

And even if we put our faith in Dalot (suicidal), we’re one injury away from AWB back at starting RB. We can kiss goodbye to playing out the back then.

It is painfully predictable that thing have gone quiet after monday night. You have to feel Ten Hag won't be so convinced behind the scenes, it's obvious he wants more.

If we can't sign De Jong, hopw we get a cheaper midfielder like Tielemans.

I think the plan is Casemiro/Fred. Guessing they think if it's good enough for Brazil...

No, also that he doesn't want to come & doesn't want to leave Barcelona either. We said we had backup players in mind and we signed one. Presumably the tactics will change as a result of signing a different type of midfielder.

Please no, Fred has something like 5 or 6 mistakes in him every game. I'm sick of watching him raising his hand to apologise for yet another poor touch, misplaced pass or stupid foul.

Surely the plan is Casemiro and Eriksen. Casemiro just comes in for McTominay. We saw in the first half the other night that Eriksen can do the passing role we need from the middle of the park.

Just because that’s what you’re head is telling you doesn’t mean that’s not what’s happening. We’re about to drop €94M on Antony and €45/50M on Gakpo

We have people moaning that Fab posts “nonsense” updates every day but then when there are no updates or rumblings “it’s painfully predictable that things have gone quiet after Monday”

Ugh. Football fans.

Can someone far more clever than me - explain something please.

1 - If we massively decrease the wage bill by offloading high paid players (Ronaldo, Linguard, Bailey, Matic, Pogba, De Gea (nxt season), Telles, Mata, AWB, Williams, Tuanzebe = 1,810 per week).
Then we splash out high fees but keep wages lower than previous regimes - are we better off?

All the players in line 1 would save the club something like 90mil per year in wages. I know new players have to come and be paid - but is there an economic arguement for paying these stupid fees but then offering reasonable salaries.
Maguire is also on 275k per week and Sancho rumoured 300k, Rashford and Martial £250k each. Are the days of insane weekly wages coming to an end?

I noticed this too, he was very effective in that role. Shouldn't be too surprised by that I guess as he's a very dynamic player and often would fall deeper into that role when he was at Spurs

Yes, he will be among Marseille top earners
Compared to OM’s salary structure, yes.

The post I quoted was made from the perspective of a Manchester United fan. Goes without saying I’m asking if he’s on high salary relative to Manchester United. Marseille’s wage structure is of no consequence to the sentence “getting rid of a player on high salary” when speaking about Manchester United - which is what I was asking
