what a fecking stupid deal.

If you think that's dumb, listen to this:

"Griezmann, 31, is officially still on loan from Barcelona, with that complex arrangement including a compulsory purchase by Atletico for €40million in summer 2023, providing he plays a certain amount of games this season (reportedly 50 per cent for a minimum of 45 minutes)."

So if they end up not wanting to pay €40m the incentive is to play him less than 45 minutes from whenever they decide they don't want to pay €40m.

Why? We dispose of a player we don’t need, but who is on high salary and highly injury prone. It’s an Ok deal
Totally agree with you. Obviously no one that was willing to buy him this summer. Keeping him around would mean wasting £4m over the year for a player that will be our 5th choice at CB, if fit (and that's a big if)..
Selling for £6m next summer also means a decent profit in the books as he's fully amortized.

Urgh. More tweets about Bailey than games he's actually played for United. Boooooring. Where are the scouts keeping an eye on IG posts liked by Antony and FDJ?

Really maximised his value with that new deal, didnt we Woody.

Also, surely he's worth far more than that.
Apparently he is not - for as long as there are no buyers, you can’t sell an asset. So his price should be 7m if it’s maximum we can realistically get from anyone.

With Jones it’s different - we obviously can’t rid of him even for free (while continue to pay him for absolutely nothing) - so he has negative value as an asset.

If this continues - we could have 2 decent sides:

Trapp - Shaw, Maguire, Lindelof, AWB - McTominay, Fred - Elanga, Martial, Gakpo - Ronaldo

DDG - Malacia, Varane, Martinez, Dalot - Casemiro, Bruno, Eriksen - Antony, Sancho - Rashford

Does lack a decent RB and De Jong type CM

Would rather swap out Rashford for Martial as the 9 and Bruno with Fred for a better Midfield balance unless we got FDJ

Would think Bruno over Eriksen in case FDJ joins

Van de Beek doesn't get a game in either side!

For me the jury is still out on Bruno, is passing is too erratic and he nearly gifted Pool a goal but for Martinez.

Casemiro - FDJ - Eriksen is way more balanced

Martial clearly first choice under Ten Hag.

But with Bruno there is more energy and pressure, whereas passing will come from FDJ. Bruno is also a better goal threat (although Eriksen brings better set pieces - also very important).

Also Eriksen is more versatile so could be a rotation option when FDJ needs a rest (and Bruno can’t)

The bit you left out is why I don't have Bruno in there.

For me Bruno's passing is too erratic and he nearly gifted Pool a goal but for Martinez.

He's a Risker pick, where I feel there would be way more consistency and fluidity with Casemiro, FDJ and Eriksen, from transition to ball rentention.

We lose that with Bruno in the squad, but when there are tired legs and he is fresh he could be a very effective 2nd half sub.

This is really interesting. We are willing to spent two seasons budget in one, if De Jong becomes available. Bit risk but if it works, will be highly rewarding as the team could take this year to gel as the new players get use to the league. Then next year, possible title push with a ready made squad. On the other hand, if it back fires, we cripple ourselves for years.
From what we've seen so far, I'll back the manager will go for it. My only wish is that we had completed some of these deals earlier to avoid paying premium this late in the window.

Hold on, €200K per week?

Yeah I was thinking that.

Had to Google his current wage (obviously not 100% reliable) and he's apparently currently earning a little under 50k a week - why would we feel the need to quadruple someone's wage?

Are we just not happy unless we're spending half a mil a week for keepers.

That is which they are doing right now, playing him less than 30 mins each match. However, IIRC, Atletico is paying for Griezmann's salary so if they continue doing so they will end up paying for more than he can contribute for the rest of the season.

He seems to be injured quite a lot, so he might struggle to play a minimum number of games.

Also, surely he's worth far more than that.

If there's ever a player that flatters to deceive its Bailly. Has all the physical attributes to command the box but his erratic decision making and injury record tells a different tale

If we can't sign De Jong, hopw we get a cheaper midfielder like Tielemans.

Honesty think we wait out until next summer, yes I am disappointed about that but at least it shows some planning I spose
