You're not wrong of course. But, we also made one huge signing that you didn't mention, and I think (hope/pray) that it will prove to be a hugely influential signing.

ETH appears to be a great manager and I think he is going to be able to get improved performances from the squad. We still could be massively improved and I would be absolutely giddy as a school girl if we are able to sign Frenkie, but even if we don't I think we will finish higher than 6th. Might not be as high as some are expecting but there will be an improvement in performances.

I hope.
One injury to any 1st team player and we're fecked, that's how thin our squad is. ETH is a miracle worker if he finishes higher than 5th with our current squad IMO. Two more signings before the window shuts and the picture changes.

I do think that we’re good enough to challenge.

There’s lots of work to do but we definitely have improved, Sancho revitalised, Martial playing really well, Dalot has improved. ETH will surprise a lot of people.

There’s still plenty of time yet for more signings and this dick riding of City, Liverpool needs to stop, they’re having just a slow a window as us.

There’s literally no need to panic. (shades of my award winning thread here in this post but we’ll see)
I agree with you.
I know it's a forum and you are both allowed and meant to express your opinion, but damn it gets boring fast to read the same doom saying posts about how bad we apparently are in aaaaall areas.

I wish we had recruited conte as manager back in October, we wouldn't be in such a mess with our transfer business.

we left it way too late in deciding on ten hag and he himself has been a little naive within the transfer window and was probably helped a great a deal at ajax because of how well they are run behind the scenes with a solid football philosophy in place.

If we don't drastically strengthen our first team in the remaining month of the transfer window, I really hope ten hag gets off to a flyer because if we have less than desired results in our first 6 or matches coupled with our current underwhelming transfer business then the bad atmosphere around the club will creep right back in, give players an excuse to not be at their best and quite easily derail into another moyes like season.

I think anyone expecting quick results is either a kid or has had their mind tainted by fickle online sentiment. Erik literally has a free pass this season but he is also probably the first real manager the club have had since Jose. If we sign 4 players this summer and 4 players next summer I would be quite content, better to have a small squad and build that in the managers image first.

Outgoings are also really important and I look forward to seeing who we can get off the books. This is a long term project.

Yet the same muppets moved on from Timber once it became clear he wasn't moving as he wanted to protect his international spot and straight onto Martinez who they wrapped up pretty quickly. I think you're being a bit naive or simply want to believe any negative media speculation. If you think De Jong's agent has told United 100% his client won't be moving to United, you're most likely very wrong.

Timber is hardly world class hes not worth waiting for when a deal could be made for Martinez. FDJ is a completely different story its understandable that if they had any indication at all that he could join is going to make the powers that be want to wait and see.

If they are still waiting at this point though then yeah they are muppets. Romano already reported his agent told both United and Barca two weeks ago he didn't want to leave i mean what more do you want.

Come on now, the whole free pass just ain't realistic, let's not act like if we have a season anything like last season or the moyes season that the overall majority of fans will naturally get very restless like any fan base that think their club is under performing

No manager at a big club gets a free pass. The idea that we can write the season off to bed in a new style of football ignores the impact not qualifying for the cl would have on next seasons budget and ability to attract players. It would cement our status in the arsenal zone of perennial top 4 contender

You're very welcome you your opinion. I find that maybe you base it on media speculation, as you've no idea what discussion have gone on between the player and his agent and United nor Barca. Time will tell, but I'm pretty sure we'd have moved on if it was very unlikely to materialise into anything.

Find that hard to believe. Only a handful of clubs are rich enough to spend that much on one player and I can't think of any that are in desperate need for a RW
Ajax worried that we’ve cooled interest so they throw that out there to get us to bid. They would sell him in a hot minute for 60-70 if we offered it.

The fans will 100% back Erik for the medium term regardless of results. I've seen the majority back someone like Ole so I have no doubt they'll back someone who can coach beautiful football. We will give and receive a few hammerings of that I have no doubt, but finally there'll be moments where we play like a team.

Getting a little tired of this Conte love in. We’d have Perisic & Bissouma, whoopty fecking doo! EtH hasn’t played a single league game & is quite clearly trying to change the way we play from the ground up, give him time.

We’re over a month away from the window closing, by all means berate EtH & the club when it’s closed but it’s clear we’re still working on deals. I used to think I was negative but some of you lot take the piss. Conte will be gone from Spurs in 2 years, if EtH falls flat we can have him then.

If our transfer team had any sense they would have lined up 2 alternatives to FDJ already, so the MOMENT he inevitably accepts a pay cut at Barca we can sign an alternative. Instead we're pinning all our hopes on him, and will be left scrabbling around when it gets confirmed that FDJ is staying put.
Have there not been reports that we've alternatives lined up if FDJ doesn't come?

No need to wet your knickers just yet.

For all the talk of negativity the toxic positivity from the "top reds" is far far worse, whatever happened to attack the message and not the poster?

At least any negativity is based on tangible reality, Brighton is in 9 days and these muppets have been chasing a player for 12 weeks who ALWAYS maintained from day one he didn't want to leave.

Wrap it up however way you want that's 12 weeks they should have used to prevent McFred being our starting midfield, Dalot our starting RB or Martial starting CF.
Please show me anything that shows FDJ himself saying that, not just some Barca influenced media.

Toxic positivity, what a bunch of twats we are

Yeah it sounds ridiculous but its also not incorrect, its all about moderation and being rational.

Toxic positivity happens when people believe that negative thoughts about anything should be avoided. It is a "pressure to stay upbeat no matter how dire one's circumstance is", and this pressure may prevent a person from coping emotionally with such circumstances by feeling otherwise natural emotions.

If theres reasons you can look at to be positive (ie ETH) then crack on, if theres reason to be negative but the outlook is blind positivity then how is that not toxic especially in a community setting like this. Hell this fanbase has had a lot of experience of this already can easily point to United under Ole.

Had no idea it's an actual thing :wenger:

You do realise Manutd finished 6th last season, many called it the worst United ever seen?

Since then we have lost players and signed 2 backups and a CB.

We have ignored our midfield since Carrick and we could end up with 1 CF in Martial.

The season starts next week.
98% of their posts are just attacking other posters who are being negative on a slightest bit. Barely contribute anything to the discussion by themselves. Pretty sure their only objective is gatekeeping what other people are posting on here.

The classic "Why so much negativity after just 7 games" thread last year should tell you everything you need to know.

It has come to a point where a couple of good preseason games and people are happy with McFred.

City have signed probably the best young striker in world football and replaced fernandinho with one of the best defensive midfielders in the league. This into an already dominant squad. That's a pretty perfect window.

When your the best you don't need 5 or 6 signings each year, just one or two strategic tweaks to your squad.

We on the other hand with a week before the season starts have a gapping hole in our midfield, a 37 year old striker who wants out and a striker who was a hot prospect 7 years ago as our attacking options

They didn't sign one of the best defensive midfielder in the league. Far from it.

They don't need to as they have very good squad already, so they are not desperate.

Just had a heart attack reading this. I thought they had signed sesko. Please be a bit more specific next time.

You can’t possibly think he meant Sesko!? Haaland is a young striker and if I’m not mistaken he was speaking in a confirmative tone and city have signed Haaland and obviously not Sesko? I mean there haven’t even been any rumours about city and Sesko :wenger:
