Can’t believe there’s still 40 days of this to go

I thought that said £1.5m at first, £15m is a ridiculous fee for a player that it's clear we don't want.

Not really. Young English player with a fair bit of PL experience. £15m seems fair (in this market).
Exactly — Brandon had a whole season of PL football at Norwich, and even played around 15 PL games for us. His namesake Neco went for around £17m and he’d only played a handful of games for Pool and half a season for Fulham in the championship. Only thing is I imagine Brandon is on a bit of a heavy wage for his age/Brighton’s contemporaries

I think Forest massively overplayed for Neco too because they're desperate for a right back and there's a Welsh connection there. To see Spence go for so cheap was a real surprise given that he was miles better than Neco last season.

I'm baffled that some people here think £20m for Memphis is too much when really average young players are selling for not much less.

Not complaining, mind. Seems a great deal for us

Neco Williams went for around that and has far less experience in top flight football.

EDIT. Ah, just seen the Neco Williams thing has already been mentioned.

I think the situations were a bit different. But as I've just said, forest have overpaid their too.

Agreed, Forest probably did overpay. They seem to be shelling out the cash somewhat fecklessly. Hopefully they aren't doing a Fulham.
Half of their first team were loan players so they were always going to spend big. I think I'd rather go down having given it a go, than going out with a whimper like Norwich did last season, so long as it's not risking the future of the club, of course.

Are they taking the royal piss or what?

Sounds like they now want him to lower his wages AND agree to play at centre back!!

They aren’t going to publicly say they want him out although it’s clear. They haven’t accepted ‘yet’ is telling along with speaking to him again.

If there was no issue then none of that would be needed. This with Xavi saying he sees him now as a CB is very telling.

They are trying to force him out.

I am hoping we sign Antony and a CF before deadline. We will also need a strong DM.
We can't depend on Martial for a full season. He will be out injured after first few games.

Looks like we've been priced out of Antony. The DM/CM will (hopefully) be De Jong, so probably not the strong, physical one you have in mind. Assuming we get De Jong, I think we'll see one more signing in a forward. feck knows who, though.

I have high hopes for Garner this year anyway.

This is one step before "Frenkie was not happy at Barcelona and wanted to leave so we had no choice but to accept the offer"
I don't think Barcelona supporters mind FdJ being transferred. There's hardly a need for any PR from the club.

I swear I had to check if these Xavi tweets are genuine and not some 'Troll Football' , he really said he liked De Jong as CB, it is crazy what's going on

„Sure you can stay. You‘d be an excellent 3rd keeper.“

He should be £20m minimum. Has 2-3 years of top flight football, still very young, and is Neco Williams went for £17m this guy is definitely more than that. If Brighton are getting £50m for Cucurella, we should be getting half of that for Williams.
The big difference is that Brandon Williams is not a very good player (and we know it). He won’t come close to getting a game for us so basically any money we can get for him is pretty much a bonus.

Yeah would be very satisfied with £15m

I think of it more as a bonus for every million we get for players we clearly dont want. If we get rid off / loan out : Andreas, Henderson, Williams, Jones, Bailly, Telles, Tuanzebe - we might only get £45-50 million in transfer fees - but we realistically will save about £30 million in wages each season. Several of these players cost us £4-5 million in wages

And probably - if Ronaldo - + the players above, and Mata, Matic, Lingard, Pogba and Cavani all left - we are probably talking in excess of £100 million in wages - each season. I now assume Ronaldo is at £500.000, Pogba had in excess of £300.000, Cavani and Mata around £200.000 and Matic and Lingard £100-150.000

As I have stated before - clearing £100 million off the wage-bill, is guaranteed to make it easier to persuade the board to let you buy 2 players for £50-60 million

I’ve always wondered why FDJ has CB, CDM and CM listed as positions on Football Manager. Has he ever played at CB?
