Official: Aston Villa reach an agreement with Sevilla to sign Diego Carlos.

EDIT: The fee from John Percy

FYI Villa are richer than us, Spurs, Arsenal and Liverpool. The only reason they're not outspending us yet is because of FFP. Another club to keep an eye on over the next few years if they continue to do smart business and improve their revenue.

How would this guy know what goes on internally? And that too in 48 hours or less? The leaks can’t be that weak ffs

He doesn't. Welcome to the world of Fabrizio Romano though. His disciples think he's all knowing and got spies in every office in Europe. The truth is he gets a lot of his info from other people and seems to like the attention.

What sort of wages must Villa be offering to lure this pedigree of player? They’re going to be a serious side next season.

Also wonder how that affects our pursuit of Koundé…

Coutinho, Diego Carlos and Kamara, that is one impressive start by Aston Villa to be fair. As soon as they bring in a proper wide player, they can surely compete with West Ham, Leicester, Arsenal et al. Many thought they would last season, but players like Traore, Ings, Buendia and Bailey didn’t really produce. Buendia has obvious potential, the others need to be shifted for different reasons.

This Diego Carlos transfer is slightly odd as Newcastle bid more than this in January and Seville rejected them. He also still has 2 years left on his contract so not like he is about to go on a free either. Plus Seville will be in the Champions league next season so they don't exactly need the money.

Maybe the fee is higher than is being reported or it seems something fishy is going on to me.

Not any more serious than they were this season. These players aren't getting them into the Top 6. United as bad as we are will sleep walk ahead of them.

By serious I just mean that they’ll be a very tough outing for all the big clubs and should be pushing hard for a Europa League spot.

Sure, Villa Park won't be easy and they will upset a few. I feel Newcastle and West Ham will finish above them though.

People said that at the start of last season and they finished 14th

Their new signing Kamara is on £175k a week apparently

Would be a huge signing for Villa. No idea why he'd want to go to 14th placed team in the premier league though I would have thought he'd have interest from the champions league teams in England

Why would any CL team want him? He's not that good. He'd get into Leicester's team but not good enough for any of the top 6. He's old too. Great player for a team like Villa nonetheless
