Not any more serious than they were this season. These players aren't getting them into the Top 6. United as bad as we are will sleep walk ahead of them.

Sure, with new players, but Villa are just as good as West Ham on paper now and United didn’t sleepwalk past them this year. Which United-player would easily play for Villa? Not many (Varane, Bruno, Ronaldo, Sancho) and that’s a sad fact. Martinez, Digne, Diego Carlos, Cash, Luiz and Kamara are all players that could swap for United-players without much question, and it’s not like Fernandes is that much better than Coutinho if at all. United are in dire need of a lot of new players!

Not to derail this thread, but adding two players they have signed this summer shouldn’t be included, not to mention even with half of their team supposedly as good or better, they still finished 8 places behind us in our worst ever premiership season.

Villa don't have any players at the level of Rice or Bowen. Those 2 would genuinely be good enough for any of the big 6, even if they could be rotated in City and Liverpool's teams. Bruno is miles better than Coutinho who hasn't even performed particularly well for Villa. Martinez has been atrocious this season. Douglas Luiz is a good player and I'd take him ahead of our options but that is moreso a statement on our lack of options in midfield. Their best player is probably Ings but for whatever reason he just hasn't adapted to that team the way he did to Southampton's. Villa have a lot of good players but they're still lacking a player of comparative ability to someone like Maddison, Vardy, Ndidi, Saka, Odegaard, Guimaraes, Cucurella, Bissouma, Rice or Bowen. If they find that star maybe things will change for them but Coutinho doesn't seem to be it despite their hopes (assuming he doesn't have a massive uptick in form compared to what he showed this season).

Their new signing Kamara is on £175k a week apparently
Jesus. So they’re paying top 6 wages for players now.

Coutinho must be on mega wages then.

That Coutinho signing was dumb which is why I'm not willing to start bigging up Villa despite Carlos and Kamara seeming like better, well-thought out signings. They're destroying their wage structure which could come back to bite them. Even if FFP isn't a big issue in the near future, their players will become unhappy if the wage gap is so large which will mean new bumper contracts will be necessary for good but not great players. Coutinho didn't even do well for them aside from about 3 matches where he was given space to impact the game. Slippery slope if these big signings don't deliver.

Sure, sure, Villa obviously have an amateur manager and a few huge holes in their team, and a lousy squad. United have Ronaldo. Put Ronaldo in this Villa-team and they finish above United, just like that. Besides, we are talking player ability here, not how they finished last season, United were 13 points better sure. City were 35 points ahead of United, it really tells you which teams United are realistically competing with. Next season Villa are more than capable of obtaining 58 points, whilst United are just as eager to finish on 75 with new signings.

Coutinho isn’t a good player for Villa, says some guy on the internet, too bad Gerrard didn’t speak to you first. Let’s wait and see how next season ends, I assume you keep that notion in terms of Sancho?

Villa and Newcastle clearly are going to be big threats to the current top 6 which currently puts us under enormous risk.

Their owners are definitely not messing about which basically means we can't afford anymore mishaps now or we won't even be a team that qualifies for Europe soon if we don't shape up, nevermind title challengers.

We need to make 4/5 signings this summer and most of them, if not all of them, need to be successful ones. Maybe not world beaters but it's essential they fill in the gaps that we have and actually do well here.

I have more faith in the club now we have Ten Hag and Woodward is gone but I'm not sure if that is misplaced optimism or not.

Ready for the summer break and time away from this team but also at same time can't stop thinking about who we will sign, who the captain is going to be etc. Hahahaha.

It's time for cautious optimism.

Seems pretty reasonable if that includes the signing on bonus? The guys would easily be sold for £20m in this market, so probably getting under £100k a week as a wage, with the rest added on as a signing fee.

Why would any CL team want him? He's not that good. He'd get into Leicester's team but not good enough for any of the top 6. He's old too. Great player for a team like Villa nonetheless

Because Sevilla had the best defensive record in la liga last season, 1 less conceeded than Madrid

Obviously Kounde being the youngster is the main one you want but both of them are likely to be sought after when you have the best defensive record in one of the top 2 or 3 leagues

City and Liverpool are the only teams in the top leagues to have a better defensive record than Sevilla's 30 conceded in 38 games

Villa are suddenly miles better than United and threats to get top 4 despite finishing the season 14th after bringing in £100m worth of players last season, says some guy on the internet. Sancho is 22 and coming after being one of the best players in the Bundesliga for multiple season. His prime is probably another 5 years away. Coutinho is about to turn 30 and coming off the back of 4 failed seasons at Barcelona and an underwhelming loan spell at the club he has now joined. You can wait to see how next season ends but you can say that about literally any player ever signed. You've decided Villa are suddenly going to be amazing next season because of these signings. I disagree and think they'll still need to make some better signings to make up 10 positions in 1 season. Both are predictions.

Kounde is definitely the star of that defence. I doubt anyone who watches Sevilla regularly would give Carlos more credit for that record than Kounde. Despite not rating him particularly highly, Lopetegui deserves a lot of credit too. Good defences need be well organised and that comes from the coach. Top cbs won't fix a defence on their own, as you can tell by simply looking at Varane coming to Utd. Don't get me wrong, Carlos is still very good, I just don't see how he would get into any PL CL team. Maybe in other countries he would, but the poster explicitly said CL teams in England.

Never said any of those things, just putting things into perspective seeing as the majority of this forum is misery and doom at the moment.

I would also point out player ability usually defines in part where a team finishes in the league.
