No, I don't think transfer decisions should be left 100% to the manager. That's how you end up with a mishmash of players suiting different managers and then spend years struggling to sell them off.

I don't know whether you've realised but United are doing things very differently now. Rightly or wrongly, they're committing to ten Hag and allowing him to build his own team and implement his own style of play. To do that he needs to identify the right players that will fit into his system, whether that be from the existing pool or potential incomings. Crucially they're going to give him time to do that. They've already started to lay the groundwork for the internal structure that will be best placed to assist him. Once he's finished with Ajax, then it's all systems go. I don't see what's wrong with that.

More info on the Olise contract extension:

How exactly would that benefit Olise exactly? Any player agreeing to increase his release clause by more than 40% without getting any monetary gain is being ill advised.

@Rozay beat me to it.

Source: Marca (José Félix Díaz); summarised English article
  • Monaco are okay with selling Tchouameni this summer.
    • €70M is considered the starting point for the negotiations.
  • The player prefers a move to a more competitive league than Ligue 1.
    • PSG ruled out.
    • Liverpool & Chelsea have already inquired the player & his camp about the player's future and are looking for a quick response.
  • Real Madrid are also interested but didn't submit an offer.
    • They want to wait one year before working to bring Tchouameni in.
    • They are happy enough with their current midfield.
      • They are prioritising strengthening other areas (centre back, left back, Kylian Mbappé).
    • Tchouameni, however, doesn't want to wait; he prefers to leave this summer.
  • Barcelona also made an approach but baulked at the price.

Chris Kirchner has been incredibly vocal on Twitter about trying to seal the deal. The negotiations over the stadium are causing more problems than expected, and this opens up an opportunity for Mike Ashley.

Mel Morris wants £20M for the stadium, which is owed to American loan firm MSD Holdings. The city council have promised to buy the stadium and lease it to Kirchner, but that hasn't necessarily helped with the overall deal. Whilst Ashley wants to submit a new deal, his prior negotiations with the club collapsed, so his current prospects aren't looking good.

EDIT: Added update from Rob Dorsett

Arsenal showing more proactivity than us in the market already. Why aren't we looking at Tielemans? He'd walk into our midfield.
I think we are waiting for Ten Hag to arrive and discuss the signings he wants.

Ideally we'd have a list and be working on it by now, but reports say Ten Hag is totally focused on Ajax winning their league title so I'd understand if he hasn't done it.

Hopefully next Wednesday Ajax will secure it and we'll start working towards building the squad for next season.

Looks like this story's legit.

Contacted by RMC Sport, Philippe Lamboley, Edouard Michut's agent, confirms his player's desire to leave, as mentioned by L'Equipe, without wanting to deepen the subject for the moment. His [i.e. the player's] presence in the stands, Sunday evening, against Troyes, accelerated the choice.

He'd prioritise his talks with us if we're willing to extend his stay here, but that doesn't necessarily mean that he'd continue with us, especially if our terms don't satisfy him. Given what's happened over the last year or so, I think he might make more demands to make up for the lack of playing time + his injuries.

FINALLY SOMEBODY WHO SPEAKS SENSE HERE!

And here's another one who understand how modern club works!
I agree it's a concern that some options will be gone, especially with german clubs making moves already. However, if you're choosing to start your meltdown this early, it'll get a hell of a lot worse for you over the summer.

I'm expecting a pretty underwhelming summer in which our rivals all strengthen and we don't get all of what we need, I dont have the energy to get worked up about it yet though, not after this season..

Uncanny we are getting somebody in called Gaag as this season has really made me want to gag.

Of course ETH is already working on your transfers. Anyone could drop a reasonnable list of multiple targets at various price ranges if you gave them a weekend to think about it.
He's been in talks to take over for months, there's no way he hasnt already communicated a big chunk of his plans already. I don't understand why so many are in panic mode.
I think your real worry with him not being there yet, is deciding if he can salvage Rashford, Maguire & co. They are the ones that will hold you back.

I dont think we are waiting for ETH but I think our priorities are heavily involved in a cup competition ( EL CL or ECL) or title/relegation matches.

Would Ajax actually sell him for a price that's reasonable by Dortmund's standards - meanng not much more than €30m? They paid quite a bit for him themselves and he had that spectacular CL season. Does he have a release clause or something like that?

I mean with Brazzo you never know, but if that was being reported by one of the usual suspects from England or by Bild people would probably laugh it out of the room. It's the literal opposite of Bayern's usual transfer strategy, in their entire history they have never paid more than €13m for a 30 year old. The closest they have come is buying Vidal and Hummels when they were 28/27.
And if they go all-in on someone it would probably be a right back or Lewandowski's replacement.

Mane and Salah will both be in the final year of their contract next season.

We will never achieve anything honestly. We need like 3 midfielders and it's just an afterthought to management :wenger:
And why would somebody Like Romano who is hardly in loop when it comes to Matters pertaining to United Know that , if the likes of Stones, Ornstein, Whitwell or Ducker Starts reporting it then it's might be concerning .
