So we badly needed improvement on the wings and in midfield in January.
What we did was get rid of one midfield option, two wing options and of course anotger wong option got arrested.
We lost 4 players in our weak positions and got 0 in.

This whole story is “Tell me we’re Manchester United without telling me we’re Manchester United”. Criminal.

We can only hope Elanga delivers now… As for the midfield we are left with Fred Scott and Matic aren’t we? Fantastic.

What happened to that Pellistri guy or something, the uruguayan lad?
We’ve moved on players who weren’t getting game time and probably adding to the lack of squad harmony that’s been mentioned.

We also know we’re likely to have a new manager in the summer so it’s pointless to invest heavily in a new signing and find out he won’t be in the new managers plans. While those areas do need improving we need to be bringing in guaranteed starters to displace McFred and that level of player isn’t so easy to bring in. I’ll trust that we’re putting in the ground work to clear out the squad and have a decent budget for the new manager to bring in the players they want.

At this point I'd rather keep him.
Don't think we have any choice as don't think we ever intended getting anybody in, except now the Greenwood situation has muddied the waters. We have sent players out on loan, not sold them. So if any of them are still under contract we will have the same problem of shifting players again. We are now banking on those loan players actually showing what they can do to either bring money in or be integrated back into the squad. That will be alright if we actually get rid of the out of contract players. I really do not want them handing contracts to them to save money.

Welcome to the modern Manchester United, where common sense is stamped on. I guess what it means is that we've decided to give Hannibal a go as we're one injury away in midfield before we have to rely on our academy.
It'll look shrewd and prudent and genial etc. if we pull it off having spent no money, but downright farcical if, for example, one of the two key midfielders we have now goes down with a serious injury. Not only is the fatigue of high octane games a thing, but also form - neither of them can really dip in form now because we have nobody to pick up the slack in their positions.

I'm a big fan of Hannibal, and I sincerely hope he can come in and do a good job in the PL, but, say he doesn't, it's wholly unfair to heap that kind of pressure on a kid instead of easing him in to a well-oiled, functioning midfield.

I think we're thinner than we look up top, too, but at least that can be compensated for by switching systems.

If we're really not getting any midfielders in, I am surprised we're prepared to let Jones go out on loan - he is at least a functional midfield body if we're threadbare.

No he doesn't, his wage is approx 26 milion GBP gross.
I gave a source. I'll also point out that Ronaldo earned 30m net at Juventus.

But if you want to believe that he took a 50% paycut to come to United, something tells me I won't change your mind.

Think with Hannibal it is more his temperament. He has to realise he might get fouled and not to react. Although at least in the PL he might get more protection than in the U-23's where anything seems to go.

Arrey-Mbi extends until 2025 and joins Köln on loan for 18 months, until summer 2023

Quite the coup for us. Comes with its risks, but a midfield trio of Ramsey, Kamara and Aribo is some unit.

I can't believe no Prem team wants him. I'd have him at United to beef up our midfield.
I think he turned down Burnley. I think it's sensible for him to give teams that are barely getting any of the ball and struggling at the foot of the table a wide berth.

Barcelona must think they can use the Jedi mind trick "you will subsidise our rebuild, these are the players you're looking for."
.
Barcelona does not think anything because that news is fake. They have the salary cap at the limit, where do they put Neymar's salary?

An intelligent assessment on the situation, thank you sir. This is my feeling on things too.

He would take a pay cut to join you, of course. Don't they all?

Chelsea? Well run?

If this were a chelsea forum there’d be countless threads on why were we so inept at selling players and sending them out on loan all the time!

To be honest it is often discussed how smooth our loans happen. As far as selling, we do carry more dead wood than people care for, but it is amazing how much money we get for transfers. The vast majority of online Chelsea fans are really happy with how we do transfers. This year people are bemoaning not getting in a left back, but January transfer window is primarily loan business for us.

Chelsea have probably been the best run club over the last 20 years.

So VDB, Martial, Amad and now quite possibly Lingard out on loan. And Greenwood out for good.

We’ve lost 5 attacking players this window.

Surprised there’s been no incomings.

Oh well, at least we’ll get to see more of Mejbri now. And a lot more of Elanga. Time to get behind the academy lads.

Seriously hope Sancho starts to fire. And Pogba comes back fit and motivated.

I thought competition for places was important? I think we need to promote a few straight away

We do still have options.

Elanga, Rashford Pogba and Sancho could all easily fill in on either flank. Maybe not their best positions in some cases but they could do a job there.

The issue is 1 or 2 injuries and we are now incredibly short.
