They don't come back at the same level. They come back but they come back as a lesser version of what they could have been. Also, Ruud did his cruciate at 23 and the other ones you mentioned were young as well. Van Dijk had one of the worst ones I've seen at 29. That's a lifetime of strain on the knee.
Have you even done your cruciates? I’ve completely torn two of mine and partially torn the other two in the same knee from the same injury. I’ve had the arthroscopic surgery and have friends that are orthopedic surgeons and perform them. I was able to walk the next day and can tell you that advances in surgical procedures have absolutely helped increased recovery rates and success.

Remember that little lad Xavi? Was out a few months with torn knee ligaments in the 05/06 season. One of the best midfielders of all time and his best years were after that injury.

Many don’t come back at the same level. Plenty have. Yet you’re acting like you’re some sort of authority and can say definitively that players don’t come back the same.

The accepted rule stick in football is that it tskes 18 months after your back on the pitch plqying competitive football to get back to your best form. That happen with Falcao and numerous others. Obviously age plays a part. However losing half a yard of pace is not uncommon with these type of injuries.
In general I agree. But everyone is different (as is the injury itself - not all acl tears are the same) and my point is That it’s not unprecedented for players to come back just as strong. VVD may come back a shadow of himself or he may come back just as strong.

Yes, tore the ACL in my left knee during a game. It's never gonna be the same.

Those players you mentioned were all 25 or under at the time of the injury and none suffered a tear as severe as Van Dijk's.

You have to make comparisons to similar players(age). Falcao being one. Ibrahimovic is the only exception. They never return the same. Never. There is a loss of agility.

Loïc Tanzi states that AC Milan aren't that keen on Yacine Adli of Bordeaux and mentions another attacking midfielder they're eyeing up.

[Quoted Tweet]
hi loic do you have any news from yacine adli in ac milan? is the agreement close to being concluded?

[LT]
Nothing close to my knowledge. AC Milan is rather on another track in France I think [i.e. targeting someone who's not an attacking midfielder].

The name Loïc, tell us the nameeeee

At the same position [i.e. attacking midfield], AC Milan would like to get Florian Grillitsch (Hoffenheim).

Vidic was a shadow of his former self after he damaged his as well

He cant legally take more than a 50% wage cut, can he?
I have yet to find anything in Spanish law that specifies this. According to this, it's only a rule in the Spanish second division, not a national law.

Tons of people have somehow accepted this as a fact when it's not actually the case.

Messi supporters desperate to paint the picture of a heartbroken, modest and humble star who had no way of resigning for the club he loved!

Fact is, he ended up at PSG, so it should be simple to put two and two together and see that he didn’t sign because he wanted money, and lots of it, with no delay.

Makes sense.

He probably thought his form last year was going to be enough for him to waltz back in to a starting role at Old Trafford. Now the season is starting and it's sinking in that he'll only ever have a bit part role to play here.

You are correct. It's just wishful thanking by many to not want him to be world class again.
Personally, I'd rather beat Liverpool and whoever through our own strengths...

I am biased though. I have a soft spot for Dutch dykes.

What does 20m get us? A James-style gamble signing? Would have to sell someone else (like James) to get a "real" signing.
I'm a little disappointed we're letting our young talents go so easily to other top 4 competitors...

 Is 29 the new 19? Also West Ham is a top 4 contender? Last year they did well. It won’t be the same this year. The competition is much better and much stronger.

£20m would get you very close to signing some great young players Aoaur, Camavinga, Tchouameni for starters.

Why would a law like this even be created?

Good news for Jesse and us. I almost thought we have no chance to sell him. It’s for the best because at his age, he should be playing regular games time to enjoy his football at best. Not being bench warmer.

15 mil for JLings might seem a bit too low but at least we will get rid of his wages and a player who will feature very little. I thought perhaps he could make Bruno have a breather in some games, with different style, and lots of running but, could be decent money and reused elsewhere be it a competition to AWB in Trippier or most importantly our vulnerable CDM position.

James and Pereira next please...

Getafe will be reinforced with Florentino Luís from Benfica, who would arrive on loan according to Emilio Contreras

Source:

A new reinforcement arrives for Getafe. We cover it now in Marca. And beware, the days go by and the option to stay for [both] Arambarri and Cucurella increase...

Florentino, a 21-year-old Benfica midfielder, will be the next to arrive after Getafe got stuck with the signing of Mexican Luis Romo.

Dusan Vlahovic issue to Atletico de Madrid: still WITHOUT agreement. All paralyzed. And [they need to] be careful because the other option on the table for the rojiblancos, Rafa Mir, is complicated: right now the transfer is almost failing. The club continues to work, has several plans.

If we can offload Lingard and Pereira before the window shuts and get a new midfielder in, then it would be the best window we've had since I can remember. Probably won't happen though.

I thought the same on the point about him being a good back up to rest Bruno but I guess with Bruno, Sancho, Rashford, Martial, Greenwood, Pogba, Cavani, (James), (Elanga), we’ve got plenty of options for those front 4 positions which means we shouldn’t have to run anyone into the ground. If we can get £20m for him at this stage of the window that would be fine, it’d still be a great price for West Ham considering how well he did there but with his wages and contract situation it’s best we recoup that fee if it’s possible.

Wonder if City could ameliorate this by sending them players on loan + a pot of gold. Maybe some of their flaunted players could stomach going to Spurs for a season, effectively play in a shop window whilst being guaranteed their high salaries at City.

Abraham has scored a goal every 155 minutes for Chelsea in the PL for the last two seasons. And every 132 minutes for Swansea in the Championship before that.

What he lacks in technical refinement, he more than makes up for in end product. It's the rarest thing to find in football, and he's well worth his price. A reliable goal scorer will give you more bang-for-buck than any other type of player.
