Trippier I assume.

I may be wrong but pretty sure I read a Luckhurst article a few weeks ago where he said that we will make a third "significant" signing after Varae and Sancho, but he said Trippier does not fall into that category. We are interested in him but Trippier would be a squad option, so unless he's changed his tune, I guess the 3rd significant signing will probably be a midfielder.

Article says Pogba now will run his contract down.

Said it casually as a matter of fact

He will be if he ends up costing us €40m!

In principle though, I agree. He's not very good and is ludicrously overpriced.

Don't think we'd pay the €40m for him though, I'd say we'd probably stretch to €20m maximum for him. I think it has to be a defensive midfielder if we're making a significant move.

surely if they sell Lukaku they have to give us that money first, you can't sell something you've not paid for.

Porbably not. They'll look to stick with the installments already agreed. I believe we've already accomodated them once as they couldn't meet payments. They owe us 5% on a sell on fee on Lukaku as well so they'll probably look to spread that over the installments too.

In the full quote on City's twitter, he's said that they only spent £40m on Grealish because £60m was generated in player sales. :wenger:

Probably a good thing he isn't in charge of their accounts then! On second thought that might be why they're always 'compliant' with FFP.

I'm not sure Trips would be considered significant.
With Pogba likely to stay for at least this season, I think it’s probably Trippier. Can’t see us getting another midfielder unless some leave — Lingard; Matic; Pogba etc.

Samuel needs to have a look at the dictionary to what significant means.

Based on what? The CAF assuming that Trippier is the 3rd significant signing?

Trippier will be a deadline day signing in my opinion and we’ll have a “significant” signing in Neves or Saul

That's looking pretty (overly) optimistic at this point, given the radio silence on United midfield targets seems to have coincided with reports that Pogba will remain at the club beyond the summer.

I assume that a new midfielder was contingent on Pogba's departure.

I hope we arent stupid enough to pay 40m for him. He is 31 in a month and they bought him for 20m two years ago.

It reads as though Messi wasn't available at that point so we got Grealish. Now we can get Messi.
Love to believe it but I’m not going to worry about it until something concrete emerges.
I do feel if SAF was still a coach that would sway Messi

I'd guess we're done for the summer now, possibly Trippier but I'd be surprised at anyone else.

Oh think you misunderstood. I meant that's how Peps quote reads.

Would be great if we got Messi but yeah it's not practical.

Technically, signing La Ligas team of the season right back would be 'sufficiently important to be worthy of note'?

I can't see us shifting players out to be honest so if theres much more business to be done I'd be amazed...

Yep, we have struggled to shift players for a while now. It would be good to see the likes of Perriera, Lingard sold just to get some money.

He's better than the one we have hence why he went to the Euros and also why he plays for a league winning Atletico side.
And he'll be a good signing for those reasons. But full back signings don't tend to catch the muppet imagination so much, unless it was a Luke Shaw, Maldini or Roberto Carlos

And to think they actually had the nerve to refuse our loan offer for Dembele last summer when they don’t have a pot to piss in.
