I may be wrong but pretty sure I read a Luckhurst article a few weeks ago where he said that we will make a third "significant" signing after Varae and Sancho, but he said Trippier does not fall into that category. We are interested in him but Trippier would be a squad option, so unless he's changed his tune, I guess the 3rd significant signing will probably be a midfielder.

I'm fine with him as a squad player who'll give us something different but significant would surely mean a game changing first teamer, wouldn't it?

surely if they sell Lukaku they have to give us that money first, you can't sell something you've not paid for.
Don't think we'd pay the €40m for him though, I'd say we'd probably stretch to €20m maximum for him. I think it has to be a defensive midfielder if we're making a significant move.
You'd have to think that Mbappe will retract his request to leave if Messi joins (and PSG can make it work). Not everyday you get a chance to play in a project like that.

Porbably not. They'll look to stick with the installments already agreed. I believe we've already accomodated them once as they couldn't meet payments. They owe us 5% on a sell on fee on Lukaku as well so they'll probably look to spread that over the installments too.
One thing doesn't affect the other. Our contract and payment agreement with them won't be affected by this.

With Pogba likely to stay for at least this season, I think it’s probably Trippier. Can’t see us getting another midfielder unless some leave — Lingard; Matic; Pogba etc.

That's looking pretty (overly) optimistic at this point, given the radio silence on United midfield targets seems to have coincided with reports that Pogba will remain at the club beyond the summer.

If we have a choice of Trippier or one of Camavinga/Saul/Neves for midfield I’d be going for midfield for sure
And he'll be a good signing for those reasons. But full back signings don't tend to catch the muppet imagination so much, unless it was a Luke Shaw, Maldini or Roberto Carlos
