In fairness, there’s a pretty glaring error there that could confuse people, particularly if English isn’t their first language.
Fair enough, didn’t really take that into consideration.

Have I made an error here somewhere? :nervous:

Hope Chong does well. Has huge talent, just hasn't been able to show it at 1st team level. Very interested to see how he performs for Bremen. Bundesliga is a very high level for him to demonstrate whether he will sink or swim

I think Bremen is a good choice for a loan. As far as wide attackers go Bittencourt and Rashica are really their only established options. The former is rather mediocre, the latter might very well be sold still. Between their brush with relegation last season and the Corona situation they probably don't have any money to spend, so odds are they are hoping to use Chong as a genuine option in attack. With Kohfeldt they also have a progressive coach, who (aside from last season's fight for survival) usually tries to play relatively positive football.

Reports like these are why I'm certain that di Marzio is a storyteller. In CM Dortmund have: Witsel, Can, Delaney, Dahoud, Bellingham, Brandt (situationally) and another young prospect in Raschl. There have been zero hints at any of them leaving and we all know money is tight at the moment.

Nine and a half? Ffs

Long for the days when we had: striker or centre forward, playmaker, deep lying centre forward. Now we have made up numbers

Labeling positions by their associated number isn't some fad, it's been done for decades: #1 for GK, #6 for a DM, #7 is your iconic winger, #8 for a CM, #9 for your striker, #10 for your midfield maestro. By #9.1/2 coaches mean someone playing a role between that of a striker and a central attacking midfielder. If I remember correctly Mourinho used the term quite frequently as well.

I doubt we'd be getting in 4 or 5 players and we did buy a fullback last summer. I think we need to push Laird into first team consideration so that he can give us something different when we are chasing a goal because there is no way we are buying another Right Fullback after dropping £50m on AWB.
One LB would do us, move Williams to RB to rotate with AWB. Remember how good AWB was for the first half of the season, he's simply knackered. Williams could then provide the option against smaller teams.

I think there is a very strong possibility that we are going to get some transfer stories on both incomings and outgoings as that very often happens when we have had a bad result to deflect our attention away from it
Think Ole knows the squad needs serious strengthening and said so tonight, he isn't stupid. He has now put the onus on Ed to get it done and if not, then Ed will get the blame.

Bit worrying, I'd rather we look for starters to displace the current options. Not sure if that's what he means though.
Isn't that the whole problem. It is a squad, the bench options should also be good enough to start. That is what has led to our fall, a good first team but rubbish bench. The players who come in should be capable of starting, but also make the bench a threat as well.

He had a wry smile when they mentioned Sancho, didn’t give too much away but reading his body language it seemed to me we are at least still trying on that front.

Would expect him to be a bit more stern on his reply if we weren’t but reading body language is a nonsense really :wenger:
Yeah I also think we’re definitely still trying on that front. I don’t see us giving up on Sancho just as yet. I’m pretty sure Sancho will be our player by the time the window closes.

We’ll just take our time paying up. Can’t be seen spending such a huge amount during this pandemic until we show we have truly tested Dortmunds resolve and we had no other options left.

Tricky and uncertain because there is no guarantee Manchester United, who remain Grealish’s most likely suitors by some distance, will come through with an offer for the midfielder or — and this is where things could get messy — make the sort of bid that would convince Villa to do business. Although figures in the region of £80 million have been mentioned, Villa insist they have never put a price on Grealish’s head. One thing is for sure, though — he won’t be going on the cheap.

Now the season has ended I look forwards to this thread being a positive and enjoyable place for the next few weeks.

Villa will price him out of a move. That is their good right, because he is their best player and they have enough money. We also wont pay over 50m for him, since he would improve our squad, but not necessarily start when everyone is fit.
That is their right, but its sorta shitty from them. In 2018, he was priced out of a move to Tottenham after their new owner had promised to sell him if PL team came for him. He never made a fuss about it and became the most important reason for their promotion and survival. Now, they seem to be doing the exact same thing.

I'd hope we could get a deal done for £30m + 20/30 in add on, Villa also know we need reinforcements to add to squad depth.

It is their right, but if they value him at, for example £80m, then they probably need to give him a new contract to reflect that importance to them otherwise they're admitting he's not actuallt a £80m player.

Has Stengs from AZ Alkmaar been linked with anyone recently? Looked a tidy prospect when we played them.

Not really. He isn't ready for a big team such as Utd too I think. Would be wise to go to a decent German side first for example.

so then... the expected flurry of United transfer news after going out of a cup hasn't materialised this morning... interesting... or rather, not interesting.

Yeah far too quiet for my liking today, hate to say it but we may well have to get Grealish and look at another RW instead which I know people won't want to hear

This is exactly why I don't hold Ill feelings towards players that make a fuss until they get the move they want. A footballers career is so short in the grand scheme of things, if you as a player want to progress you should take the opportunity whenever you can and really go after it. Don't be passive and let owners/managers renegotiate and go back on their promises
