I am so depressed at our lack of activity in the market Sigh.
Even if we leave Sancho aside, why can't we even address other positions of need.
The closer we get towards the end of the window, the higher the price of the players and the extortionate agent fees.

This is frustrating.

Because we are going to get Sancho but it's going to take most of our money, so we are trying to reduce how much we have to pay up front.

Maybe we could work on other deals parallely? Or is that too much to ask from the amatures running the club?

If the plan is to get Sancho first, then does the plan include waiting until the deadline day?

Yeah it is starting to sound like that figure hasn't come from the club after all as many media outlets were initially reporting
Trust me, that figure would have been "leaked" to the journalists to drive the price higher. If they had quoted 50 million, teams would bid 30 million. If they quote 80, then 30 million bid would be laughable.

If you don't know how much money you're going to have leftover after your main target, how are you supposed to conduct deals for any remaining ones?

Yeah that's why I asked the second question. Get Sancho done during the final week, other targets on deadline day? Genius from Ed.

Apparently starting the season with a settled squad is never a priority.

Well, there are six weeks left in the transfer window so I'm having trouble understanding the questions and tone, really.

We've bought Bruno, Maguire AWB n James when all they did was make Kovacic's loan permanent.

So despite Chelsea making some great moves we have spent shed loads of money recently too when they couldn't.
I understand the argument. But, without us adding depth to our squad, we will again be annihilated next season. We have a first team that's capable but with a bad bench, we will again be 3rd best. We need the numbers and there are no indications so far that we're doing anything about it. I still have hope yet as the window is long, but it is always better to have them in before pre-season and let them bed in.

EDIT: Further updates on other Chelsea transfers:

I think Chelsea have an army of people who negotiates transfers. As they should, because they're a multi million organisation operating at the elite level of their business.

Meanwhile, fecking Ed Woodward can only work on one deal at a time because we're a mom and pop shop punching above our weight in the top flight of English football.

Ed doesn’t work on the transfers alone nor is it just him.

Matt Judge iirc is the main man when it comes to dealing with players agents and clubs.

The CAF is dealing with a serious amount of FOMO at the moment. Getting super jealous other teams are getting shiny new toys and we’re not. Absolutely incredible, gotta love to see it.

Patience people. Patience.

First time I've heard this... Care to elaborate? Any links?

I don’t think it’s something that you’ll find in any articles, as I’m sure Romero wouldn’t want that information out there. I’ve definitely heard it mentioned by quite a few United journalists on podcasts though. Someone might have more info if you ask in the Romero thread though.

All I know that he's a defender who mainly played for Club Brugge's U-19 team. I don't know much about the player himself.
We'll see he signed for the U23s at the beginning of August so maybe one for the future, we have hundreds of CBs at our club!

I think people would be less worried if we were linked with targets, and that seems to have dried up a bit, or we didn't have a history of failing to build on relative success.

We were heavily linked with sancho, vdb and Grealish, but all those links have gone quiet and the last really solid link seems to be the defender who is going to arsenal.

You can cry patience all you like but it's got a ring of familiarity to it sadly, and we all know our squad isn't good enough or deep enough.

Feel sorry for Ole as well. He knows what we need and trusts the board to get them....

Wouldn't begrudge him walking away

I can't believe Arsenal are selling Maitland-Niles. I've only seen him a few times but whenever he's played in midfield he looks like a really good prospect. He reminds me a bit of Ramires, previously of Chelsea.

Perhaps he's rubbish the rest of the time, but he looked good to me.

I agree outside the first 11 our squad depth is shocking, spitballing here it seems Ole may agree as he sticks with more or less the same 11 every week and has hardly any rotation

I’d rather be patient and we sign the right players and not just sign players willy nilly and have no real thought behind it. Otherwise you’re stuck with what we have now.

Lots of deadwood & hard to shift players.

Let the club do it’s thing.

If it gets down to the last week or two and there still isn’t signings then it’s a case of worrying as we will struggle if our squad isn’t deep enough.

Our incredible progression after the restart and impressive development will be for nothing as players get injured and knackered, it’ll be for nothing.

Ole needs to be backed and I’m sure he will be like most managers before him.

We’ll see, we just need to be patient
