We’re seriously lacking depth this season. What are we going to do with the Europa League games?
Plenty of cover in the back-line but God knows what we are thinking with the midfield/forward options. The kids are going to play a lot by default.

Exactly. Sorted the defence, midfield and attack worse. Will finish 6th and Pogba and De Gea will leave. Round and round we go. Needed 2 cm and a rw this summer now we need a striker with Lukaku leaving

And if that was to happen we would probably end up just wasting a whole window just trying to replace these two seeing as the club now dont want a player to come to club just for better wages but yet think a high quality player will join a average top 6 side showing little ambition with an inexperienced manager for purely footballing reasons and we will once again fail to add in other areas yet again and throw in more youngsters with our fingers crossed.

Time will tell won't it.

People want world class midfielders, most of whom will be playing in the champions league next season. If they aren't available, or willing to come, what do you expect the board to do?

No this is incorrect.
Fans are happy with James, Maguire and AWB.. none of them are world class yet.

Fans want an improvement on the squad as it is now.

Be the smartest move Woody has made all summer.
They should announce it too just to give us a bit of news on deadline day.

“Here we go! Pogba agrees to one time payment of 5M to just keep quiet this season. Will be off next summer.”

Using the kids is great but we needed another starter! At least one more to really challenge for that top 4 spot. Shame.

Aye I'm rebuilding my house - I've put some nice new carpets down, and sold the roof.

Just hope it doesn't rain before I buy a new one next year.
 Ed, together with 50% of our fanbase would definitely approve that, sounds like a great plan of rebuilding something.

Almost every club in europe had a better transfer window than Spurs last year and they still went to the CL final and finished top 4. Not every problem gets solved with spending cash.
I do however hope that we get another midfielder, but it wont be a disaster as some try to portray it.

And for those who think that spending 14 mill for a has been 33 year old striker with a wage demand of 150 k a week is a smart idea needs to have a word with themselves.

Fans for the most part are idiots.

I agree but we know we cannot attract world class players but there are many players under that bracket we can go for.

You might not think so but get the scouts working and you will find gems. Tielemans for one.

It's so unfortunate that he's actually in one of the positions we're stacked in.

Not stacked for quality mind, but I'm extremely pessimistic about him getting ahead of Lingard / Mata and even Sanchez in the pecking order.

I'd only start Sanchez ahead of him and that would only be of he did well enough to continue starting. The kids ready, maybe not for chelsea but he'd tear up a lot of teams playing with our full strength squad I reckon. Just don't trust Ole enough to give him the game time to prove what he can do

That depends on whether you see the roof as a defender against the rain or an attacker against the rain. ;)

Do people genuinely think that rebuilding a whole team can be done in one transfer window? Maybe I give this place too much credit for being sane and rational

We have experienced cover for all of them though with our "dead wood"
People aren't happy no matter what happens. I can see us slowly trying to integrate the youngsters into the team alongside more experienced players.

I'm quite pleased we've potentially sorted out the defence. Perhaps next window we will look at other areas after seeing how the kids develop. People expecting us to solve all our problems in one window are mental. Introducing half a new team in one fell swoop is often a recipe for disaster. We could have perhaps signed a midfielder, but if the players we want aren't available, why waste money?

Klopp is now being praised for that sort of approach, as in hindsight it worked out well. We're being lambasted for it.

Yeah making 4 first team signing is mental...

Except plenty other clubs have done so this summer.

Zaha would be the ultimate game changer singing. Bruno looks good but he'd need a season or two to adapt to the PL.

If Everton give us £25 million for Rojo, we should bid for Zaha

Most fans like myself would be happy if we had solved at least 4 first positions, I dont think that is much to ask for either for if the club was in a competent manner

Even if United don't get anyone in anymore, the fact that Ed managed to get respectable amount for the likes of Lukaku and Rojo (potentially) is very good, and make this window a good one. Not excellent as in upgrading the whole first 11 but getting there. Defence is sorted, just need to sort out the midfield and RW next.
in the next life

We're on course to spend a maximum of around £45m net. There was over a month in between the AWB and Maguire deal. We had time to plan this and no international competitions in our way.

It is completely reasonable for fans to expect more. It's actually mad to think that this is acceptable.

I agree, he's matured a lot and is a better player now than when we signed him. Hed be a success here this year

Have you read some of the comments about James?

Most people are happy with Maguire (apart from the fee) and Bissaka because they improve on what we have.

If you want to improve on Matic, Fred and Mctominay, without getting a "world class" player in, you'll be looking at spending 50-80 million (bearing in mind Fred cost 50) and you aren't even guaranteed an improvement.

I don’t necessarily want world class midfielders, I’d have been happy with Longstaff. Something to show we’re addressing the problem areas of the squad and building for the future.

Saw a stat on Reddit showing that Fulham had a higher net spend than us last summer, and Villa have a higher net spend than us this summer. It’s shocking. The Glazers aren’t committed to success and improving the club, and they have Ed play the media all summer to make the fans think we’re interested in improving the squad, then pull the plug at the last minute. The season starts at the weekend and they hope we’ll all forget once the team is back on the pitch.

There are sane and rational posters on here, they just get drowned out by the countless hysteric doom and gloom merchants on here. Sell deadwood, we do and they still complain talking about "Woodward wants that net spend down". Can't wait for Sunday, quite excited.

There's just no talking to people like you. If suitable players were identified/avalable and willing to come then they would be signed. Can't you put 2+2 together?

Can't you buy a new roof that is willing to cover you and only you while not demanding a high wage?

Me too.

Worked out well for Fulham didn't it.

Newcastle aren't selling Longstaff. They said he isn't for sale.
