Ole trusts them so that's good enough for me. He's in a better position to judge than any of us.
How you came to that conclusion that Ole trusts them? Last season, just like this pre season he clearly preferred our mediocre average veterans. Ole talks a lot but his actions are usually complete opposite.

We have experienced cover for all of them though with our "dead wood"
People aren't happy no matter what happens. I can see us slowly trying to integrate the youngsters into the team alongside more experienced players.

I'm quite pleased we've potentially sorted out the defence. Perhaps next window we will look at other areas after seeing how the kids develop. People expecting us to solve all our problems in one window are mental. Introducing half a new team in one fell swoop is often a recipe for disaster. We could have perhaps signed a midfielder, but if the players we want aren't available, why waste money?

Klopp is now being praised for that sort of approach, as in hindsight it worked out well. We're being lambasted for it.

Yeah imagine signing 3 starters in one window, how would we even manage that number of people! Mental!

Again with the stupid logic that because we didn't sign a midfielder it must mean that all options were unsuitable or a waste of money.

If our scouts and manager can't identify 3 or 4 midfield targets who would be willing to come and that fit in our plans then we may as well give up.

The back 5 is sorted is it not?

Next window or two and we will complete it by getting in midfielders and forwards.

Which is fine, but this window was surely about getting back into the top 4. Something which is extremely unlikely now looking at how the top 6 have strengthened. My personal opinion is that we have no chance. I truly believe that even just one very good midfielder would have given us a great chance at making top 4.

When we come back next summer with no champions league football to offer... we'll see more of the same. We're going to struggle.

25 million? Deal of the century :D:D

If this really is true then if Longstaff really was the one Ole really wants then buy him before the window closes even if its 40 million plus add ons leading up 50 million because we were probably willing to spend 25-30 million for him and if we are really getting 25 million for rojo that's like 15-20 million bonus money that we wouldn't have thought we would get to get him and his wages of our books.

That's banking on them wanting to come to us like we've struggled with this window. We're taking a huge huge risk. Hopefully it pays off.
For who? Dybala? It was the image rights problem that reportedly scuppered that deal, and Spurs.

Ole happy to promote Greenwood....but still wastes last couple of days negotiating for a grandad to get in his way and yet we don't focus on midfield with glaring weaknesses.
Happy to promote Greenwood, until it doesn't work out and we're left relying on Martial and Rashford. That'll go down fantastically well!
I'd be happy to see Gomez promoted and given a new contract though. Chong i don't think is quite ready yet

Darren Fletcher was a good player for us I have know idea who you're talking about but you're getting confused.

I'm not, wtf are you on about, he was a good player for us and then was ill, LvG took over and Fletcher came back from his illness and played the US tour where he looked great, however when we started playing real football it was clear he was finished at the top level and LvG barely used him before selling him in January, the point being that what a player looks like in pre-season is irrelevant to the real thing, even someone that is past it can looks good in those games as those games are merely fitnesss excercises, so how well Greenwood and gomes played on tour shouldn't factor into calls regarding the actual competitve season ahead.

If we'd paid £150m for Maguire, that would have been better. Then our net spend would have been £114m.
This weird devil's advocate thing our fan base has got going on is weird as hell.

It's like half the posters on here think Ed Woodward lives vicariously through them and they need to impress him.

Chelsea have not strengthened, Arsenal are questionable. Spurs, City and Liverpool were always going to finish above us this year barring something dramatic happening.

Aye I'm rebuilding my house - I've put some nice new carpets down, and sold the roof.

Just hope it doesn't rain before I buy a new one next year.

Perhaps they got positive vibes from Pogba and decided to give Fred, remember him, the guy we spent 50 million on last year a chance along with Mctominay who had some very good performances and was arguably our best player against PSG a chance? Imagine that.

Chelsea were already better than us. Yeah they've lost Hazard. Gained Pulisic who is decent. Arsenal have had a great window, you're kidding yourself if you think otherwise. And the others, as you've said...

I just don't see it mate. I'm actually usually very optimistic, but it's hard to be right now. Even the teams behind us might start creeping up.

Exactly. Sorted the defence, midfield and attack worse. Will finish 6th and Pogba and De Gea will leave. Round and round we go. Needed 2 cm and a rw this summer now we need a striker with Lukaku leaving

First of all, why would anyone remember Fred.

Second of all, you can bring Mctominay through while making first team additions to the squad. In fact it could be better for his development to not be under the spotlight and being expected to perform week in week out on the back of a handful of good games.

Chelsea? You mean Hazard FC? They relied on him so much last year. Pulisic is good but they have regressed like I said.

Arsenal have bought some players that nobody knows if they'll actually be good or not. We've done more to improve our starting XI than either Arsenal or Chelsea.

He's been rumoured to be going to Madrid for a long lime, that was a surprise to nobody.
True, but we still tried to get him and failed if we believe reports. I hope you are right with your optimism for next season but I think you have to admit either way that we are taking a huge risk with the midfield and attack. Hopefully it pays off and we manage to keep hold of Pogba now. If the latter doesn't happen then

So you're writing him off after failing to settle properly in his first season? Like many players have done. That's not naive is it...

I think there is some degree of risk there no doubt, but I think our defence was the more pressing concern personally and I'm happy that we've sorted that.

I mean, I can't argue about them getting rid of Rojo, Lukaku and Fellaini. Glad they're moving on the deadwood finally. I'm not going to hold that Woodward might be able to get £25m for Rojo against the big picture, I expected more £10-15m.

We’re seriously lacking depth this season. What are we going to do with the Europa League games?

I feel pity for you for believing that.

Can we also acknowledge that we needed 2 midfielders this summer and got none?
Well look at Spurs and Dybala now. Its been a complete shitshow from the Italian end and only adds credence to the story that we walked away.
Im only comfortable with the midfield if Ole does indeed promote Gomes and maybe Garner to the first team. I also think Scott and Pogba would have been our first choice midfield regardless of who we signed so im not too annoyed by it.
I like the idea of not signing lesser midfielders because we couldn't get our first choice, we have enough clutter to sort out.
Again this only works out if Gomes comes good. We have to show faith in his ilk or they'll be gone.

Are we all accepting now that we're done in the window and no one will be coming in?
I'm pretty sure that's it now barring some miracle that we no nothing of.

Only if we play him
It's so unfortunate that he's actually in one of the positions we're stacked in.

Not stacked for quality mind, but I'm extremely pessimistic about him getting ahead of Lingard / Mata and even Sanchez in the pecking order.

Unless there’s something the media hasn’t got a sniff off, there’s no chance something could happen in the next 4 hours.

Time will tell won't it.

People want world class midfielders, most of whom will be playing in the champions league next season. If they aren't available, or willing to come, what do you expect the board to do?
