It’s still pretty mental. Everton have reportedly bid £70m + two players and Palace continue to price him out of a move.
If that Rojo deal for £25m goes through and it's not bullshit, I estimate our net spend will be £47m

We could have used a right winger, granted, but as unpopular as it is to some Lingard will be just fine this season and will probably be pretty good in Ole's system.
City had been planning Pep's arrival for some amount of time and had the proper structure in place to get everything done. We don't currently. They also just threw money at the problem to an extent, something we have done in the past and we seem reluctant to now for good reason. Hence why I said that our signings have been pretty well planned/thought out.

Yep, good for the bean counters at United. It also gives us another stick to beat Ed with if our lack of further signings comes back to haunt us this season. He can't argue that he didn't have enough money to spend if our net outlay was such a reasonable figure.

Seems like we just don't care anymore though. We seem happy to just make top 4 and get into the CL whilst spending as little as we can (yes we've spend lots, but our net will be lower when Lukaku goes through and if Rojo goes)
I think a lot comes down to what expectations people have set for themselves. I personally felt we needed 3 or 4 windows, obviously including January, to move certain players on and build our way towards a project. If people set their expectation as us spending 250 million this summer, whilst also selling 5 players and being good to go, they are setting themselves up for disappointment.
I'm starting to wonder if we're going to see how it goes and dip back into the market in January. Some may say this could be too late and they could be right, hindsight will be 20/20. For now though, we've got a few players who maybe deserve a few months to show they can be the ones to fill the gaps and if not, then we go and make signings to fill their spot.
If Greenwood has a good break through start to the season, could we look back in January and be grateful we didn't sign a right winger? If he's played there and done well, it could well justify it. If Ole has seen enough that he feels its worth playing Mason there along with James and based on what he's seen in training, matches, through speaking to the players etc he feels they could give us enough, then that's his prerogative and his time at the club will be judged on whether or not that was the correct decision.
If his judgement is he's comfortable going with that, I feel he's in a better position than I am to make that call. If it fails spectacularly however, he will have to own some of the responsibility and I may then criticise him and others for it. Just the same as it if worked out really well, I would commend them for it.
People questioned Ferguson and Gill plenty. Things like there being no value in the market, keeping Ronaldo after the Euros, selling Ruud, not investing in midfield etc. Seeing as how it worked out pretty well though, it didn't result in being how we define them or their time at the club.

Even if United don't get anyone in anymore, the fact that Ed managed to get respectable amount for the likes of Lukaku and Rojo (potentially) is very good, and make this window a good one. Not excellent as in upgrading the whole first 11 but getting there. Defence is sorted, just need to sort out the midfield and RW next.

Juve offering Dybala for Lukaku and Everton £25m for Rojo. It's like other clubs starting to feel sorry for us now for having Woodward as our chief negotiator.
