Yes but not someone just for the sake of it.

Do you now see us as some sort of moralistic/smooth operator in the transfer market, that has somehow has gone from buffoons, to having a master-plan, all under exactly the same setup as before?

This in the backdrop of us trying desperately trying to get two forwards in last week, to then claim all is fine because Ole has been 'impressed with Greenwood', to then trying for Eriksen, and him clearly laughing at us. We have just messed up once again, and left poor Ole horribly short for the season.

I don't know if this is true. We we're supposedly offered Dybala because Juventus wanted Lukaku so we weren't exactly desperate.

I think we have changed our approach though yeah.

Is Shaw the new whipping boy? Things move quickly nowadays.
Things may move quick for some but I honestly think the guy is lacking in so many areas. Attacks end at his feet too often & he’s not a stand out enough defensively to hide the fact he’s rather average in all aspects of the full back game.

He might be. We've not seen him play in a good league yet. For now I'd take Shaw but he could very well be better. We shall soon find out.

No way to know as of yet, big jump from the SPL to the Prem. Not the best injury record either, I reckon they're selling him 'cheap' for a reason.
I’ve seen Shaw play in a ‘good league’ & he’s been. . . decent [sporadically]. Tierney hasn’t got to be Patrice Evra or Ashley Cole to better than Shaw. He’s shown [in a ‘weaker league’] so much more than Shaw has offensively that he would need to be an absolute defensive liability to not be on a par with Shaw immediately imo.

Last season was, I think, the first time where Shaw has consistently played football without many injuries since his leg break.

Now he has his confidence back, is fitter and has some games under his belt I expect him to do better this year. He is also only 24 don't forget. Tierney is 22, he's 'shown more' because he's playing in a league that is pretty much a foregone conclusion.

Can’t embed media yet, but Sky are reporting that Spurs have agreed a £55 million fee for Lo Celso.

Wonder where that leaves Eriksen.

I expect Real - once they have given up trying to shift Bale & Rodriguez and find funds for Pogba - will come back with renewed interest. Pretty crazy that they could end up nabbing both Hazard & Eriksen this window.

Predictions for Transfer Deadline Day tomorrow?

I have a feeling we'll sneak the Bruno deal through with funds from the Lukaku sale.

Yes we can all hope.

You don't try for Dyabla and Mandzukic in exchange Lukaku, and then sell the same player less than a week later with no replacement, or just ignore the gaping holes in our midfield because you think we'll sort that when the 'right' player turns up, unless you clearly have a very flawed approach, it is illogical to suggest otherwise.

But everyone sees things differently so fair enough, I just worry that Ole has been set up to fail, as he just hasn't been given the backing he was allegedly promised.

Just seen that Lukaku is finally off. Has Ben Cheddar become Ben Yedder again yet?

Nah, I'm not bothered about replacing him. Fluid front 3 with Martial, Rashford +1 (hopefully Greenwood) and that'll do for now. Dybala would have been nice. A midfielder is far more important than a striker right now, that's the real bitter pill for this summer.

They've improved but only marginally. We've improved our team more.

As things stand with Fellaini, Herrera and Lukaku leaving and no replacements brought in, I think we've weakened both our midfield and attack. And they were already weak keep in mind before the departures. I can't fault the RB and CB signing we've made but how are the club expecting to improve significantly when they have weakened the other 2 areas of the team. Just shambolic.

I think they’ll sign him on a free next summer. I believe Eriksen to United was Levy trying to get United it bid at £80m to goad Madrid into paying £60m for him now. United did the right thing in pulling out and saying he wants Spain too much, mischievous.

I’d put my life savings on that we won’t get Bruno. I don’t think we’ve ever been interested.

I genuinely don’t think we’re in for him. I don’t think we’ll sign anyone. I think we’ll put a brief out fairly early that our business is done

I'd personally would rather us wait 6-12 months and get a player who's actually going to be brilliant for us that for us to rush into the market an panic buy players again. Everyone was praising us the other day for 'learning our lesson' when we supposedly refused to bow to Dybala's wage demands. I think it was clear weeks ago that Ole is willing to give players like Greenwood a show in the team this season and that's absolutely fine with me.

I can't remember off the top of my head the last time we saw a world-class player like that leave on a free though, just doesn't seem to happen.

I think the overall squad is possibly weaker but our actual starting XI is better IMO. Fellaini and Lukaku wouldn't have played much part in the team so I'm happy to see them 'replaced' in the squad by McTominay, Greenwood, Pereira etc.

20 points from title winner 1 years ago, 30 points from the title winner last season. The gap is not going to get smaller.

At this moment of time we have the 5/6th best squad in the league and a manager who is very much an unknown commodity (with some positive and some negative history). Ole will be overachieving with top 4 . Absolutely no chance of a title run . Hope we take the EL seriously

If you we're expecting to challenge for the title this year then I think the problem is you and unrealistic expectations. How many seasons has it taken Pochettino to get Spurs where they are? Teams are not built over one transfer window.

Vast majority of clubs wouldn’t have left a player of his quality on such low wages and let it get it this point. I just don’t think Madrid have the money or will to prioritise him at the moment and would be asking him to run down his contract. I think like De Gea in the past, they are interested but only on the cheap.

I think Levy’s desperation to shift him says that he is looking to run his contract down, looks like Toby is too.

That's fine, but is Ole going to be given 6-12 months when we miss out on top 4, the sponsors CL clause is about to kick in, and the fans have seen enough?

For clubs like United there just isn't that sort of time when things are going wrong, and I do not believe the Glazers will cut him anymore slack than the other managers.

That’s why it’s a game of opinions.

I’m not saying Tierney is the second coming I just don’t think he has to be to better Shaw.

Shaw is consistently playing his best football for is currently & attacks still break down when he receives it on the edge of the box whilst defensively he isn’t that reliable either.

Given the finance that this club has Tierney is a reasonably price alternative that we should have purchased imo but we’re apparently in a position where selling Lukaku finances signing a centre back but that’s a whole other discussion.

Shaw would look absolutely unbelievable at Celtic if we're being honest. It takes a very bad player not to look good for them.

Lewandowski is probably the last I can think of. Pirlo a few years before that.

I think if we go into next season yet again without significant investment, there's going to be massive protests this season. City, who finished 35 points ahead last year, have now outspent us. Arsenal have outspent us yet again. And even Spurs are going to outspend us if they buy Lo Celso. We certainly won't finish in the top 4 this season. We'll be lucky to get into the top 6 given our lack of signings.

They have to give him the time though, this is not a quick fix. If Ole doesn't get the time that's needed for this transition/rebuild then we will forever be stuck in the same loop of hiring/firing managers who try and impose a new way of playing every year or two and we never progress.

I keep repeating It but you don't build a team in one transfer window you improve and add to it year upon year.

If they sack him before the end of the season then I will be done with the club.

It’s about time there was protests. The fans, particularly at OT have been way too patient with this nonsense. We should be demanding higher standards.

It’s a shit show waiting to happen.

At least on here it should be fun!

What has Ole done to be trusted with that? You’re literally hanging the whole future on the club on a super sub player who’s done nothing as manager yet? I love Ole but he can’t be trusted with an entire rebuild on his own.

Tierney would have been a waste of money and not a good enough upgrade on Shaw to justify spending £25-30 Million.

I think this season will be the one for him where he show's everyone what he's capable of now he seems to have put his injury behind him.

I'm not too worried about replacing Lukaku. His contribution was poor last season. Other forwards would only have to improve marginally to cover his goals, plus added contribution of the young players. Ideally we would have spent the Lukaku money on a RW.
Worried about the midfield though. Even if we had just brought one in, I'd feel ok. We're just too short on numbers.
Anyway, we just have to go with what we've got come 5pm tomorrow. Looking forward to the season starting.

Lets see, as there is nothing to suggest anything will be different this time, most fans are dubious about Ole, so he really should have been backed properly so we know where we are with him.
