Arsenal & Spurs having a better transfer window than us potentially, despite having a smaller budget. Wow.

Spurs yes, Arsenal have lost their best player and have signed a kid, a loan and defender that without knowing much apart from the price can only assume is not great

Agree about the youngsters but it’s amazing how people seem to forget the end of last season. It was so unacceptable it was absolutely disgusting. We’ve a squad piled high with dogshit and aren’t shifting any.

Many fans prefer to be optimistic and explain away the end of last season by regarding it as part of Mourinho's legacy. Which is, well, optimistic. Ole, imo, is right to insist on high pressing, fast counters, possession and other modern things implemented by Guardiola and Klopp but finding the right balance between high pressing, possession, counter attacking, etc. is quite difficult. Otherwise, every other manager would be a success and one wouldn't need a Guardiola or Klopp.

Of course we want to challenge and we might surprise some people, but CL football could ensure we can sign even better players, not necessarily galatico signings, but the very best young players. Some have been put off because we have not got CL football and we need to prove we are not on a big slide.

You sure about that, i mean, maybe i am wrong without checking but wouldnt be surprised that our shop list without CL is better than with it (post SAF years). Said few time already, in current state, us being in CL means feck all for footballing side, only those above Ole care about it.

Well that's me sorted.

WTF? Why would anyone want to ready tweets about Weymouth trialists?!
He supports Weymouth. He might have meant to link the tweet before that which details new signing Calum Ward from premiership club Bournemouth (a 1 year loan).

This has been going on all window. My mam's side of the family is City, my dad's United (Middleton fwiw). The way it is. But I spent 25 years in Oldham, and whilst I have always supported us, I give a shit about them (Oldham). When I was 12 or whatever it was easier to go to watch Oldham without my dad having a fit. So I expect many fans who've followed us all their lives also have an interest in their 'local' club, perhaps for similar reasons. Ergo, those tweets do have some weight throughout the fanbase.

Shit, I will have a season ticket for Real Balompedica Linense for feck's sake, but that's so I can watch live football. I can't afford to maintain my United ticket now, cos of where I live/flights etc, but I did do when I lived in the IOM. Doesn't mean I just switch off to the football outside of that.

Think Ole has a lot to do with the targets, but even he knows that sometimes you have to buy the best. If SAF had not got Cantona would we have won that first league title. Sometimes you need a game changer. I like the fact we are going for younger players and are not being tempted by Bale, that shows we are planning for the future.

I was, but then I left it when I realised my mistake because it annoyed people and amused me.

At least you're honest about doing it to wind people up, unlike someone else around here...

Fair enough. For what it’s worth I’m also a Leyton Orient fan, although I don’t really expect to get LO updates on the caf and won’t hold it against anyone if they didn’t report our latest deal :D

A fellow Orient follower, rare around these parts

‘Well hello there’. I’m born in Hackney raised just off Lea Bridge Road so they are the closest to a ‘local team’ that is have.

Didn't you get the memo? Nowadays anything goes on the caf. Italian second division transfers, tweets about trialists, lower division tweets... you name it

not bad. Depending on how this window ends, Wolves, Leicester and Everton could really give us a challenge next season for the 6th spot.
because arsenal and chelsea will finish 4/5th lulz

Ed fecking Woodward, spent 470m euros on the sacked one, and now he is money pinching on a club legend, what a cnut!

How exactly are Arsenal having a better window than us? A year loan for a kid who barely played for Madrid in their worst season in years? An 18 year old centre back they won't even be able to play next season despite having feck all centre backs and their captain going on strike?

I swear some of ye don't even think before jumping to hysterics

Especially since it feels like we are really damn close to getting a team good enough for a real challenge. CB, CM and RW. And these players are easy to acquire but you're right. Ed is pickin the worst time to be a money pinching son of a b*tch.

Disgusted? Have a word with yourself mate and try not to be so melodramatic.

If Gomes coming through, Greenwood staking a claim for a squad place at least, the fact that every goal on tour has been assisted or scored by a youth player and we have multiple academy products on the verge of breaking through, along with Arsenal and Chelsea making no waves in the market isn't enough for you to be excited for the new season then that's on you.

Have you watched any pre season? Plenty to be excited about, in my opinion.

Personally I am more with him. I do find it farcical some of the players are getting new contracts and others still here. We have needed to shift quite a few players for a good 3+ years now and the majority are still here.

We do without doubt also need a couple more signings even without shifting the players we should have....the problems are kind of intertwined though.

Also, preseason is just preseason after all, always young players that seem to do well in preseason, Pereira has done well preseason a few times. Not knocking it has been encouraging, never know which youngsters will break through as we have had dead certainties like Januzaj and Morrison that havent and relative surprises like Rashford and at McTominay. I do agree with you though as am genuinely excited about Greenwood, Gomes and Tuanzabe as well.....but will they even get there opportunities when the season starts, we shall have to wait and see

Yes, that is a good point. Although not interested in figures, we have over paid for players, sold players too cheaply and also given out contacts not deserved or too much in the weekly wage.

Sadly its only the latter one he is still doing at the moment this summer. If there was a time we needed to shift certain players even if on the cheap and overpay for targets it really is now

We finished 6th last season and lost Herrera. Our midfield has regressed and as things stand, we have only addressed our RB situation. Anyway, continue dreaming, don’t mind me. Also, we are derailing this thread so we leave it at that.

They finished fifth and lost their best centre back and captain. They also haven't addressed any of their problems.

It's important we don't base our choices on other teams. We need to be better than City, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Arsenal. That means a actually investing like the richest team in the world for once. We still haven't broken the 50% barrier for revenue to investment while our rivals such as City do it regularly. Only once we do this can we get back to winning the league. As it is, we'll be extremely lucky to finish 4th. That's without injuries and depends on Chelsea not having a much better season than us.

I think slowing down a bit on the transfer front is fine as well. We won't have a title challenge next year anyway, so we should give this whole youth thing a shot and if Ole flops horribly we won't be stuck with yet another re-build job once a new manager / philosophy come in.

We'll make atleast one more big money signing (I'd much rather it be some CM / Winger than Maguire), but even if we've only got James, Maguire, AWB, we'd have strengthened key deficiencies in the squad really well. If we get someone like Eriksen (or any other AM like Fernandes) to top it off, it'll be the perfect summer for me.

Excited to see a 4-4-2 diamond (we've played this with Mata at the tip of the diamond last season)

---------------- De Gea -------------------
-- AWB -- Maguire -- Lindelof -- Shaw --
------------------ Matic -------------------
---------- McTominay -- Pogba -----------
------------------ Eriksen -----------------
-- Rashford -------------------Martial ----

In defence it will look more like a traditional 4-5-1 with Eriksen / Rashford occupying the forward role and the other one dropping off to cover the RW.

------------------ Matic -------------------
--Rashford-- McTominay -- Pogba -- Martial
------------------ Eriksen -----------------

It looks like we have enough depth at CM but someone like Longstaff to rotate with Matic would be great as well. McTominay can play the Matic role when he's rested / injured. McSauce can be rotated with Fred / Pereira. If Pogba is rested, we'd have to switch to a different formation and play a 5-3-2 (with Rojo replacing him) or 4-5-1 with James / some other winger replacing him and Rashford upfront.

Eriksen as a striker?
