Sancho - you do realise that, IF Sancho leaves Dortmund next summer, he'll literally be able to cherry-pick the best team in the world to join more or less?

We are going to be nowhere near the top of his list so I suggest you lot stop dreaming and accept that anyone, like Pepe would be a big upgrade on our RW and is therefore a necessary and potentially good signing.

Personally, I still dont think we're in for Pepe.

It'll be:

Maguire
Longstaff
Fernandes (and this one will be a replacement for Pogba when Madrid DO stump up the money before the window closes).

Kind of getting the feeling people just want attacking players because its more exciting, thus why they're happy to leave the DM and CB positions as they are...a total mess.

2 years down the line when Longstaff's bossing it for a team like Everton

United bid £85M for Longstaff

WHAT WHY COULDNT WE GET HIM CHEAPER?! WHY DIDN'T WE GET HIM FOR £50M WHEN WE HAD THE CHANCE!?

*Angry fist raising* *arrrghhh *arghhhh

Or flip side why did we spend £50m on LS meaning Garner wants to leave and ends up being better at another club.

From what i can see Garner isn't far behind LS in development so why not give him chances as the shadow to Matic, rather than LS, leaving Garner as surplus.

Why can't we have both Garner and Longstaff?

I think the same too but I think we definitely one as I think it would put us at a disadvantage going into the season. I think the club may be hoping we are able to buy Sancho next season.

Here is hoping Greenwood can really take his opportunities there as I think he will be played there instead of up front this season.....but I agree as I think it will be opportunities behind Lingard and probably Mata too. Would like us to sign a right winger too and see him get opportunities up front instead.

Also lets face it, there are certainly no guarantees we will even make the top four next season, so a year later the Sancho situation might not be any different to this year for him.

Yeah not true that. Some like me just see our attacking options and realise they are not good enough and are in desperate need of reinforcement. Even more so than the CB position

I disagree, you want at least 2 good players for every position. Then maybe youngsters after that

LW - Martial/ Rashford, James
CF - Rashford/Martial, Sanchez/ Lukaku (need to lose one or both) Greenwood
RW - Pepe, Sancho, Chong
AM - Fernandes, Lingard, Gomes

Mata - utility or sell when we get Sancho

Pepe and Sancho have no bearing on how Martial does as different wing.

The players to go to make space are Lukaku, Sanchez, Mata and maybe Lingard.
What we want and what we get are 2 different things right now it seems

We have an overloaded left side at the moment with Martial, Rashford, Sanchez, James and Chong who seems to prefer this side (Rashford is probably going to play as a striker this season, but still prefers the left when not playing up top).

2 players to our right wing who are good talents would be immense, I just can't see it happening because of the way we conduct our business.

On us selling Martial I could see us doing it if he doesn't have a good season and don't put in the effort required by Ole. And that would open up a space in attack as that could see Rashford moved to the left and Pepe move to striker for example. Although Woodward seem extremely reluctant to sell him either way.

Don't really want Fernandes as he's only had one great season in Portugal, and a lot of what I saw from the highlights of him was poor goalkeeping on his shots. He doesn't have any particular thing going for him that stands out other than his passing. He's not very strong, he's not a very good dribbler and he's not that fast. He can hit the goal with his shots, but who's to say he even gets a chance at shooting with how good teams in the PL are at pressing. He may have decent vision and knows how to pass a ball, but I think PL would be a step too big for him. Would rather we buy a DM and let McTominay develop as a box to box. We need someone to cover for Pogba and McT does that really well and is also decent at passing and okay at ball carrying. Plus he goes into every tackle like a man posessed.

Flamengo announced today the signing of Brazilian national team left-back Filipe Luís.

I've seen Xavi play a few times and It really seems to be a case of him believing his own hype plus bad advice. He should've taken whatever Barca offered, I guess with transfers prices getting out of hand it's only natural that the search for talent filters down the age groups and young players are demanding more than just their right to continue on the path of development.

The daily Media BS is starting to grind now.
None of them have a clue and just plucking things up, its embarassing some of these stories.

Roll on the end of the window.

If we sign Maguire, Fernandes, SMS and Longstaff then I'm certain Pogba will be going. What are you guys thoughts on that? Honestly can't decide if losing Pogba is worth signing SMS and fernandes.

I'd put a large amount of money on us not signing those 4 and I'd rather not, people really don't consider the upheaval such large incoming and outgoings is likely to cause.

We would be left with heavily relying all players settle and hit form as well as the players we're bringing through getting chances and taking them. It's too much. Every window you see these fantasy lists of 4-6 out and the same in and it just isn't going to happen. Of the 6 brought in, we'd likely see fans calling for 2/3 at least to be sold by the next summer.

We're not signing all of those players. I think we'll get Maguire and Longstaff. I don't think we're even interested in Fernades and I think Woodward thinks SMS is too expensive so we won't sign him. Pogba probably thinks he will get his move to RM. If that does not happen I think we'll have a very unhappy Pogba for the season which I don't think is a good thing at all.

That's my thoughts.

I'm really hopingb that Greenwood has a good season but I think it would be infair to expect too much from him at his age but he certainly he talent. The bit in bold is a concern, as we can could be banking on top four to get him and lke you said we might not even make it. Maybe when Mason gets his oppurtunity on the right he might play so well we decide that rather than fork out such a large outlay on Sancho, we might decide to spend the money on other areas of the squad.

What do you mean there's no consensus on what Woodward's duties are? Its widely know hes responsible for recruitment. Haven't you seen Mourinho and Ole deferring any questions and saying Woodward is at it in every single presser?

By ‘responsible for recruitment’ what exactly does that mean? As the complaints I have read directed at Woodward over the years include the specific players we have chosen to recruit (not good enough players is the accusation), the specific players we have NOT chosen to recruit, the prices we have paid for them, the prices we have refused to pay for the players we have NOT signed, the length of contract terms we have offered, the salaries offered to those players, the agent fees we have paid and more. So unless you have some conclusive understanding that Ed Woodward is responsible for each of these decisions, finger-pointing is likely misplaced in many cases.

To say ‘he’s in charge of recruitment’ highlights, to me, that you are just another who has bought into the general theme of moaning without real questioning.

Don't speak too soon!

If Lukaku goes we break even on summer signings. There is no certainty on who else is coming in or numbers. Wouldn't be surprised if only Maguire which would be a disaster.
Just joking, wannabe itk’s and shitejournos will pick stuff out of their asses at increasing pace as we get closer to the season. I would honestly be surprised if we even got 1 more signing over the line.

To be honest I think its more that people come into this thread for a quick check of something exciting some even have it on alert to catch stuff to do with united. So it can be frustrating when you don't have much time in the day to check and you see alot of activity only to find its absolutely nothing to do with us or any team relevant to us.
Most of the posts in here are to do with comments on tweets that aren't his. Or if they are, they're people complaining instead of just ignoring and adding nothing of value.

But fergie, the busby babes, pogbas haircuts, 20 times. We're still the biggest club in da world!

Prior to the Mou sacking, I didn't mind if we'd go for Zidane to take charge... but after the ridiculous getup he wore to his press reveal at Madrid and his quotes recently, I'm very curious to see how he fares without Ronaldo in his team.
Given his recent quotes maybe he should brush-up on his spanish given he is managing a spanish team, maybe he is one of those frenchies that think "gato" means cake.

Wait, gato isn't cake??

Radamel Falcao, Benoît Badiashile & Youssef Aït-Bennasser left out of Monaco’s Portugal pre-season squad - L’Équipe suggest transfer activity could be in the offing for all 3.

@JPRouve nonsense from L'Équiqe or some truth to it?

Edit: Tweet's been deleted, so probably nonsense.

Falcao would surely be down to the copa?

I hope we sign Badiashile. He looks a brilliant young prospect who is very good on the ball, pacy and physically imposing at 6'3.

I hope it's 3rd time lucky.

United are hopeful of signing Maguire from Leicester City, but have made Alderweireld one their primary back-up options should they be forced to look elsewhere. Woodward, though, will be aware that it could cost United an extra £15m if they allow Alderweireld’s clause to expire and then miss out on Maguire, forcing them to go back for the Belgian.

Huh?

I will admit its unrealistic but that would be a hell of a window!

Maguire becomes 1st choice CB
Pepe - an actual RW
Fernandes/Savic - 2 quality midfield additions

Would be a massive improvement for our squad

Savic has had a horrible season, there is no way Fernandes is worth that. It seemed to be another case of portugese media trying to drive the price up for their player.

Not a big fan of Maguire either at that price.

How i feel these "Woody stays at home", "Woody fly back home from tour" etc etc news are always bs and never lead to any signings. :)
