£50m is unfortunately the minimum you can expect to pay for an English player in the Prem who a club does not want to sell. Offer £35m plus add-ons and see where it gets us.

I'd not sign a striker with the Lukaku cash. I'd sign Nicolas Pepe who is more like a RF.

Rashford will be the main number 9. Martial, Greenwood and Sanchez will all be alternatives.
Given Ole's tendency playing to play Lukaku on the right when Rashford under was fit I'd say it's quite likely he'd be replaced with a forward who can play off the right rather than a number 9.

Any word on the de Ligt to Juve being done?

Could Ed waiting to be sure he can't get him before signing a CB?

Risky strategy if he ends up with no one again.

Can't Ed just keep his mouth shut, if you act like an idiot, then you'll be treated like one, no one can blame Newcastle for trying it on with us, as they all do.

Because we cant buy someone else right and we dont have Martial Rashford or Greenwood
Greenwood  the lad has started one premier league game last season, this isn’t bloody Fifa. The lad needs the right players around him to grow. Not thrown into Helmsdeep without a shield and sword, accompanied by Pippin & Merry. Martial hasn’t played as a number 9 in a year and Rashford has proven is currently not good enough.

Now - In regards to buying, buy who exactly? Not exactly that many top strikers around is there? We’re struggling to sign players as it is. We should bring in a proper number 9 first, prior to selling. Well that’s what a competent board would do.

Is Lukaku perfect for us? Absolutely not. Is he currently the best option up front? Yes. We are in a dire state. Face the feckin music. If we had a prime RVP on the bench i’d drive Lukaku to inter myself for God sake.

Manchester United have been quoted a staggering FIFTY million pound fee to sign Newcastle's Sean Longstaff.
They are ready to walk away from a potential deal for the midfielder, believing the Magpies have ramped up their asking price simply because of the Old Trafford giants' profile and spending power.

Do we really need 4 tweets in a row, saying exactly the same? Really....?

What cash? With the money Inter are trying to pay for the first year, we'd be lucky to afford Portuguese CB, Pepe.

We get fleeced for every player target and it's time we did same to other clubs.
Although to be fair, Palace are asking for upwards of £80 mil for Zaha. Premier league market is a waste of time.

Longstaff at £25m was just about an acceptable punt, based upon the fact he doesn't have any great pedigree in youth football to fall back on. At anything close to £50m I'd tell them to go and shite. I know we made it look harder than it needed to be when we bought Fred, but £50m, even in this market, should buy you a really good midfielder.

I'd rather keep Lukaku as an option but I can understand why he thinks he'd be better off leaving. He's underrated in this country and especially by our fans. Can look cumbersome but cannot argue with his goal record.
Yeah, I’m not his biggest fan but outside of Aguero and Kane (the only two elite strikers in the PL) he’s easily on par with the rest of his contemporaries in the league. Yet he’s somehow perceived as a bumbling oaf, while the others are still seen far more positively for similar stats and contributions.

Especially when you consider Tielemans went for 40m

£50m, they’re having a laugh. Maybe we should try nab him on the cheap next year when they go down. £25m would’ve been a decent punt but for £50m you’re taking the absolute piss.

If true, this is absolutely typical of United’s luck in the transfer market.

It must be the only time in history that Mike Ashley hasn’t bit the hand off the first offer.

Get Maguire in then go find a midfielder from the continent, this all British thing is gonna be too expensive.

I'm still convinced it will go through for 35 million, 30 million +5 add ons.

This extends to Maguire, too, surely? For a player of his quality, he is ludicrously expensive.

Just ditch the British 'talents' altogether and look abroad where there are far better deals to be had, often for superior players.

I'm with the club on this one one. 50 million for Longstaff is absolutely bonkers.

If a club was after Mctominay and we said 50 million we would be laughed at.

Palace also asked for 70 million for AWB and people went crazy. So reasonably I think 35 million would be the conclusive offer.

The premium we have to pay to acquire players compared to other teams is absolutely ridiculous. Being quoted £50 million for a PL rookie midfielder whilst Spurs manage to get an established CL level talent in N'Dombele for £10 million more.

It doesn't surprise me that Leicester are asking £90 million for Maguire given we're after him.

We are picking the wrong targets. Thats what you get by shopping in the PL these days. Ndombele would be the same price for us, just like Tielemans.

It's our fault for chasing after a rookie. And an English one on top of that.

We’re obviously not going to pay £50m upfront for Sean fecking Longstaff. They’re blatantly over valuing him as a way of saying “we don’t want to sell him and we know you’re rich as feck”

1) somebody needs to tell them about our £100m budget :nervous:

2) we’ll get him for about 25m-30m upfront. Might go to 50ish with bonuses, but if he hits bonuses then he’s worth it.

To think van der beek would cost almost the same amount that Newcastle are asking for longstaff and is far more proven.

Sean 'Nine Prem Appearances' Longstaff

I wouldn't mind if we had a reputation of finding gems and clubs thinking oh shit we must have a top player on our hands if United are interested or we've consistently broken world transfer records, see Madrid and Barca for that. If we're in for him he's probably John O'Shea II.
