This makes sense. Heard Benfica were panicking about his €100m release clause being too low and wanted to double it so they didn't find themselves in a Neymar position where your best player is whipped away from you and you don't have a say in it.

Hardly comparable. No player has ever left Portugal for even close to €100m, and if they got that for Felix it would be more than a fair business deal at this stage. This kid is ridiculously hyped on here. Neymar was a world class player, who was proven at the highest level of club and international football.

If Felix signs a deal that doubles his release clause to €200m, he will just be improsoning himself in Portuguese football.

Is there anything worse than a forced bullshit goodbye message? No one care Herrera, just pack your stuff and leave quietly through the back door please.

Exactly. feck off Ander. His demands were ridiculous for a player of his ability level and now we will have to spend money to replace him.

Should have been extended (and made Captain) a year ago. He was underused and misused from the moment he arrived at the club. Sclto see him go -especially when we need help in cm

He’s played pretty much every game when fit under Ole. Him leaving is about money. Hope he goes somewhere and rots on their bench.

I hope de Gea stay. Oblak would cost shitloads with that new contract.

What about Dean Henderson? I have not seen him a lot, but he has been doing some impressing stuff?
We should let Romero be the stop gap for a year and see how Dean develops at Sheffield United in premier league next season before splashing 100 million on new keeper.

Exactly. That was what happened to Falcao and Moutinho whom Mendes had to subsidized their money to Monaco and Atletico while waiting for big clubs who didn't come forth.

I would be happy with Romero being first choice instead of spending 100 million on a keeper. This money should be spend on proper defenders.

Misused by who? Did you realise we actually bought him as a creative midfielder? But today, his best game was as a defensive box-box midfielder for us and despite this, he's still not a world-class at it. He had to reinvent himself because he failed in the role he was signed to be.

We've got Henderson too, who i haven't seen at all this season, but has apparently been fantastic. Maybe it's perhaps time to start again and let De Gea go. Not because i suddenly think he's rubbish, because that's wrong, but because he deserves to be allowed to leave of he wants after giving us plenty of gifs years whilst we've been in the footballing wilderness.

We should get Jasper Cillessen instead. At most, he can't be more than 25mil

That could be a smart way if de Gea part ways with us. Romero is a great player and its a shame he has to be on the bench.

That will give Henderson more time and the chance to play in the Premier League.

There is a massive difference between being a first choice goalie and a sub goalie.
Romero is massively over-rated because he comes in every now and again in league cup games and doesn't have a cock-up.
The thing is he has always lacked the week to week concentration to be first choice goalie. Any time he has had a run as first choice at a club during his career,he has been extremely inconsistent and has had some serious howlers.
It's easy for a player to prepare and be tuned in for a game when you have weeks in advance to prepare and focus like he has on the game so he knows he is going to play in.
I know people point at him being Argentinas first choice but again, plenty time to prepare and focus on those games and he isn't even that consistent with them. And what are Argentinas other options, Cabellero, Rulli, Armani, Andrada?? None of them are world class either. Darmian is an example of this, got caps for Italy during their poor period but even though he is an Italian international defender, he is nowhere near good enough to be starting at a club with ambitions to be challenging for a title. Same goes for Romero, his stock has gone up from not playing.

Reactions: sizzling sausages

Right attitude, heart and professionalism for us, average player who had a few good months. Deserves a good farewell from the fans but will hardly be sorely missed, his wage demands were quite rightly not met in my opinion too.

I'm not slating the bloke for leaving. Sometimes no matter how much you've enjoyed working somewhere, it's just time to leave, I get that.

What annoys me is this narrative that's coming from his camp that he's been hard done by and we've forced him out by not offering him a contract when he wanted one.

We've had club legends leave and no one's said a word, I don't understand why Herrera is getting all this fan fare for being an average midfielder in a time we've had shit midfielders.

Because he can still do a job and is worth more to us than certain other players on much bigger contracts.

He's not been hard done by per day, there's just sections of the fan base that would rather see us make an exception for him and start our new wage structure from scratch thereafter, flogging Sanchez and maybe others as a sign of the change.

Seasons not even over yet and already if the press are to be believed SAncho, DeLigt, Bissaka and Felix wont be coming to us.....if we are even in for them of course, coming soon Kouliailly signs for someone or a new contract.
For the player another season or two may not be a bad thing development wise anyway to be fair. Think he looks a real talent rather than overhyped myself from the little I have seen of him

Instability at various levels - sounds like a clever way of saying we are a complete shit show.

Only if he refuses to sign that new contract. Don't think 80m will be enough to get Oblak if De Gea goes. Won't be surprised if Ole just sticks with Romero, Grant or throw a surprise and start Henderson.
I'd take £80m anyway, give more cash towards key gaps we have (defence 2/3, midfield 2, attack 1/2). I don't see Oblak coming to us.

And I'd be ok(ish) with Romero and Henderson.... as long as any fee is reinvested/wisely.

He isn't better than Romero though.

Cillessen is far better than Romero. His positioning is quality and he can command his box quite well and he's good at coming out for crosses. The only thing is he's basic at saving shots and will hardly give you those unexpected unreal saves. If we sort out our defence and midfield, we don't need a keeper to keep saving us every game with an unreal save.

O jogo is the reliable one from Portugal. They got Lindelof right. So there might be some truth to it.

Nice to see our rivals getting their targets in early though. Well we got that 20 yo kid from Swansea so there's that.

good to see people losing their shit over Portuguese media again. I'd have thought they'd have learnt it from the first round of rumors regarding Fernandes to City but clearly not.

Especially as City briefed no interest

Calm the feck down guys. Feck him as if he is the only player available. We move on.

I am so tired of hearing only negative news. Someone should start a feel good thread.

Who is actually losing their shit over the media? @deafepl and I just pointed out that O jogo might be more reliable than Record and the others. @golden_blunder is the only one, who had a reaction and he isn't losing his shit either. Just saying that it is depressing is a normal reaction. Whether it is actually true, we don't know and nobody has said it is definitely true.

Yeah very sensible reactions to a news from a source which has been proven false just a week or so ago.

@bucky

Missed those, fair enough. Maybe I'm just not paying properly attention to those posts anymore. Can't say I'm bothered one way or the other about Bruno Fernandes.

Can absolutely guarantee that 99% of the Caf hadn't even watched two full matches of him playing which makes the reaction to him potentially joining City more hilarious.

I can sort of understand that fans are frustrated and annoyed with the way things are going in general, but you are probably right. There's really no need to react this way considering what we may end up with at the end of the summer and there's obviously a good chance that Bruno Fernandes doesn't end up at City.
